Overview
This guide will help you complete Thai Hot difficulty in Space Food Truck. There is a section for each character and a small list of useful cards. I’m going to assume you know the basics of how to play. If you don’t, you can watch the starting videos in game.
The Engineer
This green guy is the most important person on your ship. He’s the only one with repair tools.
Early on, you want to upgrade shields as fast as possible. It’s probably okay to skip using a repair early if it upgrades your shields. Ideally, you want your ship fully repaired every turn. You can make that a reality by keeping the Engineer stocked with card destruction, power, Duct Tape, and Wrenches.
This guy should get first choice on all destruction cards. Destroying garbage lets him slim down his deck enough to repair every turn. Gamma Toaster is an excellent card for him because it allows you to torch a card and boost your power.
When buying new cards, you want destruction cards first. Power Glove is a good second choice. Next, get cards with high Power, such as the sylk-types. Your goal is to be able to Wrench every turn for a massive amount.
If you’re having trouble with too many cards, move the Engineer into the Cook’s room and start feeding him your garbage.
The Chef
The Chef is a close second in importance. He has important card destruction techniques and also cooks the food for your win condition. You’ll be heavily using both copies of Taste Test the entire game. Try to get both Flambe early as well.
You want Chef buying Exchangatron. This card shuffles out your hand and replaces it with the same number of cards. It helps you cycle through the garbage Chef is bound to collect. With enough of them, you can play your whole deck every turn.
Chef will have lots of money thanks to his ingredients and card draw. Consider buying a Refined Sylk or similar early on to deal with events. You can trade it (or maybe a Power Glove) to Engineer if he’s in the room too.
Chef is the best home for support cards because of his card drawing and destruction. You want to give him Diplomabot and Aegis Battery so he can make use of them with his card finding powers.
The Captain
The Captain has two important duties: Move the ship where it needs to be, and restock shelves. Try to keep Captain in her room at all times so that you can consistently jump.
Try not to move too quickly. You need time to restock and have enough Power in your hand to dodge disaster events. Stop and restock every time you switch systems, and only move twice a turn. You can store excess energy in the FTL drive for later.
It’s your job to stock the shelves for everyone. Making good choices here can make it easy for everyone. Pick up ingredients for everyone early on so that they can afford the more expensive cards. Card destruction is mandatory. Try to have a good range of prices so that no one gets stuck with Leftovers.
In science, get both copies of Overcharge and then ignore the rest of the research tree. The Scientist’s time is better spent elsewhere.
Captain is a good choice for the Unomas Remote. It’s better than drawing Leftovers. You’ll need Refined Sylk or similar high Power cards for the events.
The Scientist
The Scientist is the least powerful member of your team, but he has an important role. He can unlock new cards and add +1 power to a card in hand.
Unlocking new cards is your main job. Engineer has a Wrench somewhere in his tree. There aren’t any horrible cards in his tree, so choosing at random is okay. For Chef, you want to Foresight his Flambe cards as fast as possible. Discard Dive isn’t that great, so try not to random if you can avoid it. For Captain, use Foresight to find both copies of Overcharge and ignore the rest of his tree.
The Scientist himself has a simple tree as well. Try to Foresight as much as possible to identify the useful cards. You’ll want both copies of Breakthrough to help lower research costs. Mimicube is useful to fix your hand or add Power. The science ingredients can help if you’re short on decent cards, but try not to get them unless you need them for a recipe.
The other power the Scientist has is Mutating cards. He can permanently add +1 power to a card. Your first Mutate should go to a Wrench for obvious reasons. If your Engineer is doing well, some other good card choices are Engage, Cook, and Upgrade Ship. It will allow you to play those cards alone if necessary. Remember to use Breakthrough to lower the Mutate cost.
Some Important Cards
Diplomabot
He solves problems. Ideally, Chef should have several in his collection. Multiple copies of this card are necessary for your survival.
Xray Burnilizer
Look at the next 4 cards, then burn one. Excellent card. Ideally everyone has two of these.
Gamma Toaster
It doubles a card’s Power and Worth, then destroys it. You need as much card destruction as you can possibly get.
Exchangatron
Reshuffles your hand. Excellent for Chef, good for everyone else. This card can enable you to reliably cycle through your deck every turn.
Power Glove
Draw 2 cards. Buy as many as possible.
The Claw of Duty
Grab any card from your discard pile. A versatile option for reusing good cards.
Conclusion
You should be ready to take on Thai Hot Difficulty now. Enjoy your time playing Space Food Truck!
