Overview
Guide for fixing the stuttering issue in RAGE.
Introduction
Hi! This is a simple troubleshooting guide I made for fixing the stuttering issue in RAGE.
Stuttering Fix
Turn off V-Sync in game and Enable V-Sync in Nvidia Control Panel or ATI Catalyst Control Center.
- Right-click on desktop > Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings.
- Click on Add > Select “Rage” > Add Selected Program.
- Scroll down and look for Vertical Sync and select “On” or “Adaptive”.
- Click Apply.
Create a Texture Cache Folder in “C:UsersUsernameAppDataLocalId SoftwareRAGE”.
Note: If you can’t find the “Id Software” folder in the above location, create a new folder in the Local directory and rename it to Id software, then create another new folder inside Id Software and rename it to RAGE. The local folder is usually hidden, so you need to unhide folders in order to access the above location.
Next you need to create a config file for RAGE. Open Notepad and copy the settings I posted below and paste it on notepad.
Then click on File on the top left corner of the notepad window and click on “Save As”. Type the File name as “rageconfig.cfg” and change the “Save as type” to “All Files” and save it on your desktop.
Now copy the rageconfig.cfg file in RAGEbase folder in this location. In my case its in “E:SteamLibrarySteamAppscommonRAGEbase” (depending on which drive you installed the game). If you can’t find it, the default game directory should be in this location.
“C:Program FilesSteamsteamappscommonragebase” (32-bit OS)
“C:Program Files (x86)Steamsteamappscommonragebase” (64-bit OS)
If you want to avoid all the trouble making the cfg file. You can download it from here.
Download RAGE Config[drive.google.com]
Or if you have some knowledge on how the config works. You can configure your own config file here (For Advanced Users Only)

Alternatively, you can just download my cfg file with everything set to maxed, if your pc can handle the game on high settings.
Download RAGE Config[drive.google.com] (for Nvidia users only)
Minifreezes
If the game freezes for about 1 two 2 seconds at regularly intervals, add “+jobs_numThreads 0” to the launch options.
Note: If it’s causing the game lag even more, increasing the number might help. Try experimenting with the numbers, use 0 to 12 for the number of threads your system has. Lower numbers are better and use this only if you are having stuttering or hanging issue.
This guide was made on my older system running i7 4770K and GTX 660 Ti 2GB with the Resolution 1360 x 768 on 32-bit version of the game and the game runs very smooth with stable 60fps. However I’m having trouble running the game with stable 60fps on my GTX 1070 with fps drops in some areas in 1080p.
