The Typical Endgame Scenarios Employed in Istrolid

Overview

Want to get a idea of the battles you will find in Istrolid? Well this guide is for you!

Intro

There are three main scenarios in which you may find yourself participating in while playing Istrolid along with several sub scenarios. I will share my experience from the battlefield.

1) I call it the Cold War.

This is when two sides pile up a large amount of forces.

1a) Stand Off. Boring.

In this case, while the two active members of each team battle it out, the stockpiling forces finally decided too attack. But suddenly concern gets the best of both super fleets and they stop just out of or in maximum ran of each other. Following this, the depleted members of each team either A: fight skirmishes or B: add to the stockpile. In this Sub-C, the distance in between both fleets becomes filled with arty shells and plasma fire until one side finds themselves out of Power and HP and throws caution to the wind and charges.
For example, team Alpha may build large lumbering Fortresses with short range while team Beta builds a stockpile of Long range Arty vessels. In this case, team Beta will most surely win when the two forces collide.

1b) Lag Win. I call BS!

This is the other Sub-C of the Cold-War. Its the point when the amount of units on the server over taxes a fleet builder of a side and cannot maneuvers themselves to face crafty Player attacks such as stealth warheads or fighters. I’ve had the misfortune of experiencing this, thus losing a majority of my fleet, giving the opposite team an almost guaranteed win.

1c) Smash

Its what the name implies. No tactics whatsoever but just where the victory will boil down to the side with the best modified ships for the current playing field of ship craft.

Counter Attacks to break a Cold war scenario: Warheads and Fighters(90-110$)/Frigates(120- 300) with range.

2) Tanking is love. Tanking is life.

I do this much too often when my enemy is short in range and lacking in ship health but do have a considerable amount of units (*cough*fighters*cough*). It’s the most common of the three scenarios in Istrolid. In fact it can be absolutely annoying.

2a) Priority One, defend this sector!

This is what happens typically is a second game with the same people. Especially if one side gets rekted. One side will pile up similar that of a Cold War scenario but will stay in the sector right outside of spawn until the enemy makes a mistake. For example, then enemy is uncoordinated and attack separately thus creating a opening for a massive counter attack.

2b) Multi-front.

In this case of Tanking, one side tanks a group of sectors and holds in due to a enemy’s superior close range firepower causing an attack on a spawn sector to nearly always stall.

Counter Attacks to break a Tanking scenario: Warheads, Frigates, Fighters. Or Get lucky with effective long range craft.

3) Our cruisers can’t repel firepower of that magnitude!

This is not the most common but its basically a fire fight between un-massed fighters, frigates and cruisers against a superior the Fortess fleet.

3a) Red Wing!

This is where everybody is doing there own thing on a team. Usually this applies to fighter battles or fighter raids on slow moving targets. I do this occasionally but then I realize how much I suck at it and I switch to cruiser control.

3b) The skies will darken, aka SWARM

This is when a team does work together against a superior opponent with the combined might of their faster craft. It will either end well or with the death of every fighter, cruiser and frigate in a blink of an eye. Or you may get lucky and get left with a single fighter who you name ‘Luke’ but can do anything cool.

Counter Attacks to break a light craft v heavy scenario: You don’t, if your the fighter side. If your the other side, develop outer rings of PD forces to protect your fortresses.

Note: This is the first draft, I will add better terms for scenarios from further gameplay. After all, a game doesn’t just get a player dictionary overnight.
