How to download the soundtrack in mp3 for Sid Meier's Civilization VI

How to download the soundtrack in mp3

Overview

This guide shows you how to download the civ vi soundtrack in mp3 format. This is the format it was originally released in before they changed it to ogg.

Introduction

This guide shows you how to download the original mp3 version of the civ vi soundtrack that was put up on steam but then 5 days’ later deleted and replaced with .ogg format. It uses official, legal, valve tools to download; you must own the soundtrack on steam or it won’t work.

Running Steam with Console

The first step is to run steam with the console enabled. You do this by adding -console to the end of the shortcut to run steam. For example for me in Windows 7 I click the start button, right at the top is the shortcut to steam; I right click it and select properties, then where it says “Target blah blah blah path to steam steam.exe” I add -console (dash c o n s o l e).

Run steam with this shortcut and you will have a new shiny CONSOLE option at the top right.

Issuing the blessed command to pray for music files

Click on the CONSOLE on the right to enter console mode.

Enter this command:

Steam will begin downloading the soundtrack in mp3 format. When it finishes it will tell you the folder where it has downloaded it to, but it will probably be something like:

C:YOURUSERNAMEYOURPATHTOSTEAMsteamsteamappscontentapp_289070depot_512031DLCSoundtrack

Navigate to that directory. Congratulations, you have the soundtrack in mp3 format.

Afterword

This is the procedure to get the civ vi soundtrack. The soundtrack doesn’t include the title track (arguably the best track) nor the tracks for the civs that were DLCs. I don’t think the other soundtrack (The best of civ music from previous games) was put up in mp3 format, but I’ll check, just trying to get this info out there fast.
