Prince movement-/ grafic-/ gamelauch fixes

Overview

This guide will help you to setup Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones and fix certain issues: different Prince movement issuses grafical glitches game lauch issues

Introduction

This guide is being made to setup Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones for pc. Since there is no english guide yet, i decided to create one. I hope to help some people, so they don’t need to search the whole forum for fixes.

This guide will fix following issues:

  • prince doesn’t descend chains
  • prince doesn’t grab ledges/guardrails
  • prince doesn’t keep running
  • white screen fix & problems related to fire
  • water displayed trough walls
  • game won’t lauch
  • crash after creating profile
  • game gets minimized after start
  • camera turning is inverted

FYI my game runs on Windows 7 64-bit and should run on 32-bit, too.

General setup

In options you should enable Vsync since it bugfixes alot of issues due to a lower framerate. Without Vsync it runs on maybe 100+ fps cause this game is from 2005 and Vsync should cap it.

Also you should disable antialiasing since it fixes a few issues too. Instead you can enable antialiasing in your ATI/NVIDIA drivers.

That should do it for the most part. If you encounter bugs or difficulties check out the following chapters below.

Dark Prince doesn’t descend chains

That problem exists in general for the prince but you encounter it first time with the dark prince.

You can actually move trough by keep going down until you are stuck, turn upwards and move down again. Sometimes you can move a little and sometimes a larger part. But I expirienced that this is kinda inconsistent and your time is limited in dark prince sections.

This problem should be fixed if you enable Vsync. If you still encounter this problem or you got a monitor with a high refreshrate(120+) you should try to lower the refreshrate for this game. For nvidia user it is possible to half the refreshrate in driver options just for this game. I guess there is a option in ATI drivers(AAA controls) too.

The best option is limiting the fps by a program (e.g. dxtory trial) to 60, this is optimal.

    NVIDIA:(sry only screenshots in german)

  • rightclick desktop -> NVIDIA systemcontrols
  • go to manage 3D properties -> programm properties
  • choose PrinceofPersia.exe with the PoP:The Two Thrones logo
  • note: if it’s not in the list just add PrinceOfPersia.exe from …SteamSteamAppscommonPrince of Persia Two Thrones
  • make sure that “preferred refreshrate” is “programm/application controlled”
  • now scroll down to “vertical syncronisation” and choose “adaptiv – half refreshrate”

For me this fixes the problem for like 95% cause you get stuck sometimes for like miliseconds. As note i use a 144 hertz/refreshrate monitor. Let me know if it helps you and if there is a option for ATI.

Prince doesn’t grab on ledges/guardrails

For some reason the game behaves really strange on high framerate. That’s why just turn on vsync and he will grab ledges and guardrails after dropping on it.

Prince doesn’t keep running

If you change the gamepad sensitivity to lower than default for some gamepads there is a problem that the prince starts walking and doesn’t run anymore. So just don’t go below default sensitivity.

note: I also read that sensitivity around 0.75/ 0.65 is fine. Let me know if this works for you.

White screen fix & problems related to fire

If you got some grafical glitches related while in combat or looking to the right, right after the start and you screen turns white, then you can fix this.
Just try the following options:

  1. disable antialiasing
  2. (optional)disable fog
  3. (not recommended)disable vsync

The first option should fix it but if you got still problems try the other ones too.
If disableing the fog does it let me know, cause maybe you can just switch values of 2 commands like in Sands of Time.

Water displayed trough walls

This problem gets fixed by turning antialiasing off. You can still use antialiasing from your ATI/ NVIDIA driver.

Game won’t lauch/ crashing after creating profile

To fix different issues around launching and to avoid crashes after profile creation you should start the game in compatibility mode:

  • go to …SteamSteamAppscommonPrince of Persia Two Thrones
  • rightclick PrinceOfPersia.exe
  • go to properties
  • open compatibility tab
  • check “run program in compatibility mode”
  • select “windows xp (service pack 3)”
  • press ok

If your lauch button stays grey just leave the laucher open and start POP3.exe manuelly.

Game gets minimized after start

To solve this problem you need to get hex editor and follow these steps:

  • open POP3.exe with hex editor from …SteamSteamAppscommonPrince of Persia Two Thrones
  • search for the “01a8e7” address
  • change value “E8 F4 F7 FF FF” to “90 90 90 90 90”

I hope it will help you, since I didn’t need to fix this issue.

Camera turning is inverted

In controller settings menu are two options to invert camera. For me it worked perfectly after enabling “camera navigation inverted”.

Conclusion

I hope i can help alot of people running the game as intended. Feel free to give me some feedback in the comments and rate my guide if you like to.

If you got any other bug fixes or anything message me, cause i would expand that guide, too.

Have fun with the game, spinyB
