This guide about how to make a nice looking prison…
Introduction
As you may have read this guide is about how to make a nice prison. I warn you, to make a nice prison = work. You can’t be lazy or your prison will be… Well… like xD You know, not too nice.
My english is realy poor so if you find some grammatical mistakes, don’t be afraid to tell me in comments.
Planning, planning and planning
So to make a good prison the most important thing is planning. You can’t start a prison without some plans and ideas. If you do, in that case your prison will be easy to escape and/or ugly. So for example i usually start by draw my plans on paper.
If you have a few plans you have to plan inside the game too.
A good way to save money and make your prison nicer is use planning mode in the game. You can use it by clicking on the icon on the bottom right, named “planning” This is very useful. You can actually make the whole prison in this mode and see if something looks nice or ugly and you can’t mess up stuff.
Don’t be lazy to use primary school
Don’t be lazy to use the knowledge you got from primary school. In prison architect, the simple maths can be realy useful. For example, i want to make a cell block. If 1 cell is 5×4 and we want 3 cells horizontaly and verticaly and 1 block place beetwen them. Also don’t forget the cell in the middle can get the same walls as the 2 others… That’s mean 3 x 4 – 2 = 10…
After this 3 x 5 + 2 = 17 (since we want 1 block beetwen the cells) So the size of the building we need is 10×17.
As i’ve read back it’s a bit hard understand so i made an illustration to make it easier to understand.
Areas
It can make easier to navigate trough your prison if you slash it into areas. Like the top right corner is administration, so offices, and stuff like that is there. Top left corner is armory area, so dogs and security centre and stuff like that is there. Whole bottom is for prisoners so cells, showers, cantin and stuff like that is there, and middle and other staff is for yard. Easier to navigate and look better in my opinion.
Frames and Materials
If you make frames outside of your buildings from some material like stone or anything, it can make your prison to look much better. Your staff and prisoners will walk faster beetwen buildings and like i said, looks prety. Otherway, use materials. So for office, wooden floor looks realy nice, and for cells the best is simple concrete (In my opinion). But there is a lot of other materials and type of rooms, it’s on you what combination you use. Also, fence on the out corner of the whole map, 1 block free place and 1 more fence is make your prison much more safer and much more beautyful.
