[WIP] Rooms and Room Setups – Tips and Tricks

Overview

This is a guide on how to make effective and well producing rooms and other room based tips and tricks. However, this is my opinion and the effectiveness of your buildings is also space dependant.

Introduction

Welcome!
I have made this guide to give you tips and tricks on rooms as well as tips for laying out your rooms. I hope you enjoy!

Work in Progress
This guide is a work in progress and is being updated over time. Please be patient!

The Kitchen

This room, oddly enough, is one of the main needs of the prisoners, and will die without access to food which is produced here, then sent off to the canteen by cooks.

Tips and Tricks:

  • Kitchens should only have staff doors as entrances as it prevents prisoners from getting contraband. This doesn’t apply if prisoners are working in the kitchen. If this is the case, place a metal detector at the door with a guard stationed nearby, because even minimum security inmates will attempt to smuggle out contraband.
  • The Kitchen and Canteen should be close to each other as it reduces the time for cooks to place food in the serving tables
  • Kitchens should be placed close to Deliveries for easy access to food deliveries. This also appiles to Storage.

The Canteen

This room allows for the prisoners to eat the food whcih has been produced by the cooks/peers in the canteen to satisfy their hunger need.

Tips and Tricks:

  • The Kitchen and Canteen should be close to each other, this reduces the time for cooks to place food in the serving tables.
  • Riots usually start when lots of prisoners with high needs are free and where there are many prisoners, like a canteen. To better prevent the riots, you should build more and smaller canteens
  • The entrance to your canteen is a great place to put metal detectors, as prisoners will be forced to walk through them multiple times a day, twice for each meal.
  • Adding sinks to the canteen allows cooks to wash trays much closer to the serving tables and reduces travel distance.
