A simple tutorial on changing thumbnail images.

Overview

This is a simple and (hopefully) helpful guide on changing thumbnails for your awesome creations, not those awful default ones Besiege makes for it.

How to do it:

Changing Thumbnails Tutorial

Their have been a few people wanting to know how to change a thumbnail on a machine you uploaded or plan to upload to the workshop. Here’s how:

This is for Mac, as that is what I use, but I assume that it is nearly the same for Windows.

To start, find Besiege. Click “properties” and go to it’s local files. Click “browse local files”
Go and right click on the Besiege icon, click “Show Package Contents”. You should get a folder named “Contents”. Open it. Scroll around and find the subfolder “SavedMachines”. Here you should see all you .bsg files.
Find the next subfolder called “Thumbnails”. Here are any thumbnails of machines (the ones you see when loading a machine in-game) and any screen shots you took. If any aren’t there, simply drag them into the folder. Find the bot you want to change the image of. Lets use one of mine as an example. It is named “8 Wheeler”. Find the image you want to have, and rename it the EXACT name of the machine. So mine was “8 Wheeler.bsg”, so the image was 8 Wheeler.png. (remember to delete the old default image, otherwise it won’t work). Now load the game. It should be changed!
You can also access this subfolder of images when you click the steam icon and hover over the default image, clicking “Edit”, but it does the same thing.
If you have already uploaded it, simply click the steam icon and update it with the newer version (better thumbnail one)

IMPORTANT: Make sure you cropped your image to be as close to square as possible, as it will be squished otherwise.

Happy Sieging! the_MOLERAT
