Overview
This guide is all about the numerous factions in Crossout. No seriously, that’s it. Why are you still reading this? Go through the guide!
Introduction
Nothing here, just put an intro here because every guide has to have one.
Engineers
Leader: Ivy Xo
The Engineers are the default faction. They were once a powerful faction, but eventually were almost completely destroyed due to the combined forces of several other large groups. Ever since their fall they have been just a group of outcasts, spreading information and trading. Their main goal is to help people who are new to the whole ‘murdering others with your automobile death machine’ thing. Understandably, starting out in this business can be hard. The best I could probably build without their help is probably a tricycle with a shard of glass taped to the front. It could work, but I’d prefer to not take my chances. They are very helpful to newcomers and offer them parts to get them started on their journey. They also create new ways of killing people and send the blueprints to other factions.
Their leader is Ivy Xo. She’s got pretty glowing yellow eyes (Seriously, she needs some eyedrops or something) and a gasmask with two thingamabobbles attached to it. Her mother died early on in her life caused by raiders, which changed her father’s character greatly. Her father, now calling himself a Mentor, wanted to protect everyone through an unstoppable military and hide his daughter from the cruel and unforgiving nature of the wastelands. Of course, she rebelled against her father and learned the ways of the wastes on her own. She began to gain popularity for her kind and smart personality. Her father was defeated in combat, and as expected, Ivy had taken the mantle of leader and morphed the military style of the Engineers into one of helpers, traders, and inventors. There are rumors her father might return one day and with his arrival, he will bring changes to the Engineers as well.
Typical vehicle:
Engineer vehicles usually have the characteristics of small pickup trucks with a few machine guns and/or cannons. Not too powerful, but still reliable (Unless you’re going up against someone with 3 drones. In that case, you’re ♥♥♥♥♥♥).
Previous Design
Her previous design sported a slightly skimpier look, with bandages around her stomach and a bikini top instead of the tank top she has now. She’s also got a soda she’s drinking instead of a wrench. Finally, she still had a gasmask, though less futuristic-looking.
Lunatics
Leader: Psycho Pete
The Lunatics are all about sharp things, chaos, speed, destruction, and mental illness. After the world ended, they did not succumb to the harsh reality that had manifested. Instead, they embraced it. They gave into their basic instincts of survival and threw away their sense of morality, as it now proved useless in a world where the strong trample the weak. A peculiar feature among the lunatics is how little they are affected by the global change, most notably in eye color. The eye discoloration is less apparent in their group, especially the most animalistic leaders who have completely normal eyes. They seem to have embraced the absence of law and can finally murder entire families without having society judge them.
Their leader is Psycho Pete, a warlord who has a mohawk, spike implants on his head, a gasmask, a kilt made from tattered rgs, a nipple ring that’s weirdly hard to miss, and a really sharp stick with more sharp things attatched to it. He was originally the leader of a small bandit group. Always unpredictable and sparatic, he was never one to stay in one place for long. He also has a case of Gerorge Washington-itis as he is able to escape any battle unharmed no matter how dangerous or deadly. He’s so crazy, he doesn’t even tie his shoes. He’s that insane.
Typical Vehicle:
Lunatic vehicles are fast and deadly. They’re fast enough to avoid much of the gunfire that’s happening around them and powerful enough to seriously damage whatever they collide with. Whatever they don’t rip apart is blown up. They are similar to dune buggies in design.
Previous Design
Psycho Pete’s earlier design somehow managed to be even skimpier than he is now. He doesn’t have a robe anymore, just some shorts and straps. He’s still got the mohawk, but not the gasmask. He also had a tire section with protruding spikes strapped onto his shoulder.
Nomads
Leader: Ulysses
Nomads are the ones responsible for the maps you murder people or get murdered on. They explore the wasteland, looking for places that would be great for killing on. They then clean up the place, put a nice air freshener in, and tell others about the map. They also find abandoned factories, military bases, etc. that would make a great place for the Scavengers to have. The Nomads thinned connection with being human means they are great explorers, unafraid of whatever’s out there. This also comes with a curse, they are often shunned and dreaded by people outside their group. All members wear suits and masks that cover their entire body, but if the mask is forcefully removed a blinding blue flame erupts, leaving nothing but their clothes, masks, dust, and slight memory loss to all witnesses.
Their unofficial leader is Ulysses, a map keeper. He’s got a rice hat with a gasmask, and thick robes with many pouches. Also with him is a staff topped off with a Dawn Children scope. This can be interpreted as an indicator of either a rivalry or a sign of respect. Once whatever cataclysmic event that changed the world was brought into play, Ulysses donned a mask, separating him from humans for good. To make up for whatever unjusts he committed before, he helps others in secret, those that are in dire need of help and are unable to recieve it.
Typical Vehicle:
Vintage cars and planes are the fashion for Nomads. They also carry heavy machine guns and long range weapons to finish the fight from a distance. Sometimes they even use drones. Even though their vehicles are made from planes and you can actually build a plane yourself, flying is very limited (As in it’s pretty pointless, outside of a few lols).
Previous Design
In his previous design, Ulysses had a ceramic mask instead of a gasmask. His rice hat was in better condition, and he had more armor and less robe. On his left arm is a Pip-Boy from the Fallout francise. Also with him was a flowing scarf and luggage that he always had packed in case he needed to skip town. If you’ve got a sharp eye, you can spot an unpainted welding mask like the one Scar AB’s previous design wears. (Honestly, I prefer this version over the new one)
Scavengers
Leader: Scar AB
The Scavengers is a group that scavenge. Belonging to the lowest branch of the Brotherhood military orginazation, they go through factories and sell whatever they can on the black market. Whatever is left is taken and stuck onto their vehicles.
Their leader Scar AB, a slightly overweight man who’s also a hoarder collector with a short fuse on his anger. He’s got a hard hat, a painted welding mask, and ear protectors on his head. He also wears a heavy yellow fur-lined jacket and a backpack of what I can only assume is junk. He’s also got a metal leg, probably because of the Scavenger’s interest with explosives. Originally he started out small. Only through hard work, dedication, and the black market was he able to climb through the ranks and become the leader of the Scavengers.
Typical Vehicle:
Vehicles that come from the Scavengers are slow and deadly. They’re more on the armored side. They can take a hit and hit back harder with the cannons attatched to their vehicles. They’re heavily inspired by semi-trucks. Some of their vehicles have the power to ram into enemies and do massive damage.
Previous Design
Scar AB’s design prior to the current one is oddly familiar. It kind of looks like a certain fat australian maniac from another game (maybe that’s why they changed it). His overall design was less yellow and his jacket was open revealing a big round belly. He didn’t have the hard hat or ear protectors either. He did have the metal leg, though, and his love for bombs was a lot more apparent with him holding a cartoony bomb and all. (To be honest, I liked this design more)
(P.S. Blizzard, pls make a Roadhog skin that looks like this)
Steppenwolfs
Leader: Ironhand
Steppenwolfs are the elite faction. They are for the people that are veterans at the game and know their ♥♥♥♥. They pretty much only trust themselves and they carry out elite missions in faraway places. They’re like if the military survived and the lawlessness made them even more seasoned fighters (Think of the Enclave from Fallout).
Their leader is Ironhand, a major who has an iron hand. He’s a proud patriot that has been in service before the world turned to rubbish. As the goals of the Brotherhood were shifting ever so slightly, he realized that he was too. Unable to completely face this, he started to grow wary of the Brotherhood and just focus on his battles. His iron hand was a gift from the Steppenwolfs, since he was so respected and liked the Steppenwolfs offered him an artificial arm and an extended stay in the group, which Ironhand readily accepted. But soon his age started to show. His Scars started glowing, which is when he gathered troops from the ranks and embarked on his few final missions for the Brotherhood.
Typical Vehicle
Their vehicles resemble literal tanks due to the Steppenwolf’s connection to the military. They prefer to stay behind cover and pick off their enemies from a distance. Their long range weaponry and slow speed means that they are weak in close-quarters combat. Nothing is ever in their way for long.
Dawn Children
Leader: Riley
The Dawn Children are a secretive group of scientists that keep to themselves and invent new, groundbreaking technology. When all had gone to waste and people were turning into psychologically-unstable madmen, others had protected themselves. They found others like them. They united forces, defenseless by themselves but strong when united. The greatest geniuses had gathered into a group that included some of the greatest minds of the world. Slowly but surely, the Dawn Children have been gaining power and amassing powerful devices. Their motives are mysterious and unknown to anyone outside of their organization.
The leader of the Dawn Children is Riley, the chief scientific officer whose gender is not known (despite him having an incredibly flat chest and broad shoulders). Before the events of Crossout, he was the head of a laboratory in the Waterquarn Corporation. He’s wearing a protective suit with a lot of tubes and pouches and a huge backpack with a mechanical arm that probably weighs more than Riley himself.
Typical Vehicle
A typical Dawn Children vehicle is spacecraft themed. It’s playstyle is a glass cannon. The vehicle itself can’t take a lot of shots but has a force field to help it. It has close to long range weapons that can tear apart lightly armored vehicles in seconds.
Firestarters
Leader: Odegon
The Firestarters are a group of ritualistic shamans and witches who have a particular affinity to fire. They were comprised of former actors, musicians, and other unique individuals in order to unite the many crazed inhabitants of the wastelands under at least one belief. Many shamans from this group carry around crystal balls, ouija boards, and other spiritualistic items. They probably (and most likely) do not have any otherworldly powers, which is believed by most people and probably by some of the Firestarters themselves. But are you going to tell that to someone with a flamethrower pointed at you?
Their leader is Odegon, the supreme shaman of the tribe. Before the current events, an elderly actress (I know, she looks good for being elderly. It’s probably the face paint). Then, she survived by being a witch. Placing skulls around her home so not even the maddest of raiders would trespass onto her land. Making sacrafices to some unknown force. That is, until she was personally sought out to lead the Firestarters. Now, she is the head figure of the fire-lovers and prefers not to stay in one place for too long.
Typical vehicle:
The vehicles of the Firestarters focus on close range attacks mixed with mild area denial. They have medium armor in order to compensate for their need to get close. The flames they spray can linger on the ground and make it more difficult for enemies to navigate terrain. Harpoons they carry can attatch themselves to enemy vehicles, forbidding escape, but allowing them to draw nearer to the scorching, torrid flames. The vehicles resemble campers or vans, so they can carry all their witch equipment and stuff.
Ravens?
The Ravens probably don’t even exist but whatever.
The Ravens (the name is from the guy’s jacket in the above picture) are a group of people you can see in the loading screen for crossout. They wear masks to cover their faces and place feathers on their heads. The woman to the right (who you should know if you actually played the game, and from here on out I will call ‘The Mentor’) is the one that shows you the basics of the horrible world of Crossout and greets you with the patch notes for the game. dam she thic. she’s probably one of the reasons I log in daily I can only assume that they are somehow related to the Engineers due to 3 things. The first being that the vehicle in the above picture is similar to the Engineer’s style of vehicles. Secondly, Ivy Xo, the leader of the Engineers, also has feathers in her hair. The third and final reason is how helpful the Mentor is, which correlates to the Engineer’s helpful goals.
End of Guide
Thanks for reading! I hope you laughed, learned a little, and maybe even got inspired by the contents of this guide! Maybe in the future, more factions will be added and I’ll have to get my lazy American ass up and add to this guide.
