Castle Story Guide

How to Play Multiplayer! for Castle Story

How to Play Multiplayer!

Overview

So you’ve played Castle Story and now that it’s multiplayer compatible you’d like to play with actual humans. And after looking, you’ve decided that you’d settle for Steam users. And now you’re wondering how to actually play multiplayer. This is just a basic guide on how to get your multiplayer game up and running. It does not contain any strategic advice for multiplayer games.

1: Creating/Joining A Game

My preferred method of hosting Castle Story games involves Logmein Hamachi.

What is Hamachi? It’s a program that basically allows its users to set up a fake, temporary LAN so that their computers function like they are on LAN. It is rather straightforward.

You can download it here:

Before you do ANYTHING with Hamachi, it is very important that you disable file sharing! This is because, as I mentioned, Hamachi treats your computers like they are on LAN which means other users will have access to your files unless you disable file sharing.

If you have Windows 7 or 8 follow these directions:

If you have Windows 10 follow these directions:

If you have a Mac, throw it in the trash and get an actual computer. Lol JK, follow these directions:

Here are the steps you’ll need to follow to host a game:

  • Download hamachi
  • Open it and click the button that says “Create a new network”. Give it a unique name and a password.
  • Have your fellow players download and install Hamachi. Give them the network name and password so they can join your network.
  • Once they’ve joined, click “Multiplayer” and then “Host New Game” to host on a new map or “Host Saved Game” to host from a save. You can select game mode and whether it’s coop or versus then click “Okay”. It should show up if your friends click “Join Game” under “Multiplayer.” as long as they are on your Hamachi network.
  • Everyone has to click “Ready” before you can start.

If you’re just joining a game you obviously only need the last half of those instructions.

2: The Different Game Modes At a Glance

There are two kinds of Multiplayer modes: Conquest and Invasion. These can both be played Coop and Conquest can also be played Versus.

Conquest Coop:

At its most basic, multiple people controlling one side with the goal being to wipe out the corruptrons and capture all the crystals.

Conquest Versus:

Multiple people, each controlling one side. There are no corruptrons. Your fellow players are the enemy.

Invasion coop:

Multiple people all controlling one side with the goal being to resist unending corruptron waves as long as you can.

3: Saving a Game

Only the host can save the game. Merely press “Escape” and follow the appropriate options. He will then have to host the game again if the players want to reload from that save. Or he can send it to his fellow players in the form of a zip.
