Overview
A complete list of all Outrunner, Techical, Cyclone and Jetbeast paint jobs currently available in Borderlands 3. The list includes how to unlock each paint job and where to find them.
Intro
I spent way too much time trying to track down information on how to unlock the various paint jobs for each of the three vehicles with limited success. Out of frustration I started to track this information in a spreadsheet and adding things that I found to it also. Next thing I know I had a list of how to unlock all of the vehicle paint jobs currently available. Now I’m sharing the fruits of my OCD with those that would like to complete their collection, or just find that one elusive paint job they want to use.
Disclaimers:
1. The locations listed in the guide are where I found these paint jobs. I hunted them on two separate characters to make sure that they appeared in the same locations for both. This does not mean that the paint jobs can’t spawn in other locations, I just found them in these locations first.
2. Paint jobs in the Unknown/Unobtainable category are based on information I have found around the internet. Some of them are from events that have passed and are no longer available. Others may be planned for future DLC and have not gone live. But, as of right now, there is no known way to get those paint jobs in game without resorting to a save editor.
2a. I know that if you add in the Unknown/Unobtainable it adds up to more then the total listed in game. I don’t know which, if any, of these are counted to the ‘official’ in game totals and the mismatch annoys me too….
3.The imgur picture galleries linked in the guide are not mine. They were posted by apocalyptech, please upvote them as they have been a huge help to putting this guide together.
4. The YouTube videos for Dynasty Dash in the guide are not mine. They were posted by ZaFrostPet, please like them as they have also been a big help in putting this guide together.
5. It should go without saying, ya know being that this is a guide, but …. um…..Spoilers and stuff.
Hunting Tips
Here are a few tips on how to get control of that shiny new vehicle and get it back to the Catch-A-Ride intact.
1. Don’t Shoot Back
Any damage you do to a vehicle before hijacking it is still there after you’re in control of the vehicle.
Once you take control of a vehicle you will be surrounded by 1-4 bad guys with guns that are none to pleased with you stealing their ride. They will express this displeasure by trying to blow up said ride.
2. Tesla Coil Is Your Friend
If you’re having trouble getting close enough to a vehicle to hijack it on foot, then the Outrunner’s Tesla Coil can be a huge help. You can get this off of Outrunners starting in Meridian Metroplex on Promethea, they continue to spawn randomly on Outrunners throughout the rest of the game. What makes the Tesla Coil different from other weapons is that it hits not only the vehicle but also the bad guys in the vehicle. Because the bad guys have less health then the vehicle, you can use the Tesla Coil to kill the driver and stop the vehicle.
3. Take A Breath
After you’ve taken control of a vehicle, and cleared the area of any threats, your shiny new vehicle may, ok will, have taken some damage. Instead of pointing your smoking engine at the nearest Catch-A-Ride, firing the booster and chanting “no ‘splodie, please no ‘splodie,” lean back and wait. Any vehicle your driving will heal once it’s no longer under attack, this takes about 10-15 seconds to get back to full health. If someone comes over and interrupts the healing cycle, fall back to a safe area to heal. The extra 30 seconds it took to get back will beat the hell out of the 30 minutes it may take to get that rare spawn to show up again.
4. See a Car, Hijack a Car
Hijack every vehicle that you see, like all the vehicles. Even if you already have the paint job on the vehicle, hijack it anyway. The vehicle may have parts on it that you need, if it does you will see an icon in the lower left of you screen, next to the speedometer letting you know what parts it has. Hijacking the vehicle will also allow another one to spawn, which may have a paint job you don’t have.
5. Don’t Be Afraid To Log Out
Some of the rare, named vehicles have a very low chance to spawn. If you’re farming them you may will reach a point when you have killed all vehicles in the area. In this case you can either do something else and wait for about 15 minutes for the vehicles to start respawning, or you can quit to main menu. This is the same method used to farm bosses, and like the bosses when you log back in the vehicle spawns will be back.
