Overview
In this guide I will advise you on how to maximise the chance of getting to play PVP with people on a “local server” game with custom maps of your choice. (until step 4.2 wich is not meant to be informational.)
How you can maximise chance of success
1. Start your game
If you aren´t inside of a game, nobody can join your game, duh.
2. Make sure it is online
-Press “esc”
-Press on “settings”
-Press on “game”
-Make sure “puplic game visibility” is marked
3. Wait
At this point, you can´t really do anything but wait for players to join. It might be instand, it might take 8 minutes or much longer. I recommend setting sound to 0 except for SFX, wich should be at least at 40. Now, you can go watch videos or do something else than just wait. Then, if somebody joins you´ll hear the printing sound of the dart ship and know the game is ready to start.
4.1 You have been successfull
You actually did it! Somebody joined your game.
Give them your greeting and begin the fight!
Nobody joins.
4.2 Nobody joins.
Often, reality can be disappointing. Nobody joins and you sit there, waiting. Like a dog for his deceased owner you wait and wait but there is nothing. Nothing except for sadness. Your soul is filled with disappointment as you realise that you don´t have anyone to play your maps with you. None of your friends have mindustry because you´re just the special snowflake that you are, playing a game online, that only few people play. Are you proud of yourself? Spending all your time in quarantine in making maps that nobody cares about? You could be productive and work on your life, develop healthy hobbys, but instead you sit on your computer creating stuff for PVP even though you know that nobody will join you to play with you. “Maybe next time” you think. Someone joined last time you remember, you´re always making yourself new hope, that if you wait long enough maybe someone will join, as sometimes you are lucky enough. But no, not today. You wait and you wait until you realise that it´s pointless and you eventually abandon the match just to repeat your mistakes tomorrow. because ofcourse you do. You always come back for another round and you just don´t realise that the community is too small to be able to join you all the time when you want to play. It´s not really that big of a deal you begin to think. “Maybe I´m just overreacting?”. The thoughts flow in. Perhaps you´re just frustrated that nobody joined your games today and you´re making it look worse than it is, forgetting how often you did get to play and how nice the players were, yes with one bad day you forget all the good experiences from the past but deep down you remember. And you will try again tomorrow because you love Mindustry. And you love it´s community. You get an idea. You think: “maybe I just have to create a guide to share my struggle, wich is actually very common among other players.” Yes, sometimes, all it takes is to make a guide. Perhaps that´s the solution. Yes, Perhaps.
