Overview
I will be giving some informations about the boons you will encounter as playing the game!
Before Starting
Before getting help from this guide please note that this guide is outdated and is not updated yet!!
I will try to update it and include other boons (Bouldy Boon, Daedalus Hammer Boons, Chthonic Companion Summons, Etc.) as i play and experience the updated features more. Thank you in advance for your patience.
About Boons
Boons are upgrades given by the olympian gods. They can be obtained as rewards for clearing a room marked with the respective god’s symbol OR purchased for 150 Obols from Charon’s shop
Boons only last for the duration of a run so they will disappear when Zagreus dies and goes back to the House of Hades.
Attack, Special, Cast, Dash, and Call abilities cannot be affected by multiple gods at the same time. For example, you cannot have both Passion Dash (Aphrodite’s dash ability) and Blade Dash (Ares’ dash ability) but gods may sometimes offer to exchange one Boon for another.
Exchanges increase the level and rarity of the boon by one stage.
There is no other limits on how many other boons Zagreus can have at one time.
There are 5 rarities of boons avaible, which are Classic, Rare, Epic, Heroic and Legendary.
Heroic rarity is available through exchanging an Epic-rarity boon, choosing Ambrosia Delight from Eurydice, or from cultivating boons with Rare Crop from Demeter.
Boons that are rewarded from Erebus encounters, mini-boss encounters or bought at a higher price from Charon are more likely to have higher rarities.
Trial of the Gods
A Trial is denoted by a pair of boons along with a skull marker.. Two boons are offered and the playes/ Zagreus must choose one. The spurned god grows displeased and summons waves of armored enemies. The enemies are regular enemies but they gain a bonus effect based on the displeased god’s powers.
After completing the Trial, the spurned god forgives Zagreus and offers their boon.
- Aphrodite: Periodically summons a ring of circles around enemies which deal damage.
- Athena: Periodically grants shields to enemies which last for 2 to 3 seconds and deals pulsating damage.
- Ares: Periodically spawns two slow moving circles from where enemy stands, which inflict damage rapidly.
- Artemis: Periodically spawns fast moving circles which explode randomly, dealing damage.
- Demeter: Periodically spawns a gradually enlarging circle from where enemy stands, that deals damage.
- Dionysus: Periodically and randomly spawns large circles that explode, dealing damage.
- Poseidon: Enemies coast around the room on waves, inflciting knockback
- Zeus: Periodically spawns circles randomly which call lightning strikes, dealing damage.
Status Effects
Status Effects are conditions which affect enemies or the player. These can be debuffs, but can come as buffs.
Increased Damage
It is granted by a couple boons, abilities or aspects in the game. This buff is signified by pulsing electricity around Zagreus, and will increase the damage Zagreus does (depending on the source of the effect.)
Increased Move Speed
It is granted by Hermes boons. and is signified by a movement trailing effect coming from Zagreus.
Shielded
Some boons offer shields which protect the shielded from incoming damage, making them invulnerable. Voidstones can provide shields to enemies near them(Charmed Voidstones can provides shields to Zagreus too.), and bosses gain shields while they are transferring between phases.
Punished
Enemies inflicted with 2 different Status Curses are Punished. Punished enemies and are vulnerable to extra damage from the Privileged Status upgrade in the Mirror of Night. (The Punished debuff is lost if the enemy does not maintain 2 Status Curses.)
Charmed
Some Aphrodite boons inflict Charmed on enemies. Charmed causes those enemies to attack other enemies, and deal no damage to Zagreus while charmed. While Bosses can be charmed, the charm lasts for a significantly shorter duration than on a normal enemy.
Stun
Stuns prevent an enemy inflicted with them from moving or attacking, interrupting their previous action. Some boons can inflict brief stuns. Most weapon attacks and some specials inflict small duration stuns which interrupt enemy attacks and movements. Wall Slams and Traps also inflict stuns on enemies. Some attacks in the game can also stun Zagreus. Bosses cannot be stunned.
Petrified
Petrified is a debuff inflicted by Gorgon and Megagorgon projectiles. It prevents inflicted enemies from moving or attacking until they break free. Zagreus can deflect the projectiles with Athena’s boons to enemies to petrify them, except for armoured mini-bosses. He can also be inflicted with Petrified, and can break free by rapidly dashing or attacking. Using Companion Fidi also lets him petrify enemies except for mini-bosses with armours and bosses.
Styx Poison
Styx Poison is a debuff which deals damage over time to Zagreus or enemies it is inflicted on, as well as inflict a green tint around the edges of the screen. Poison is inflicted by traps in the Temple of Styx, pools created by Gigantic Vermin, and darts thrown by Satyr Cultists. Poison stacks, allowing it to deal increased damage over time, but stacks eventually wear off. Stacks can be immediately cleansed by using a Curing Pool in a Styx chamber, which grants brief immunity to the effect. Poison can only be applied to enemies by deflecting Satyr Cultist darts at them, and will deal 5 times the damage it deals Zagreus.
Status Curses are a variety of temporary effects inflicted under certain circumstances. Each Olympian god (with the exception of Hermes) has at least one boon capable of inflicting a Status Curse on enemies.
Weak (Aphrodite): For at least 3 Seconds, victim deals at least 50% less damage.
Ruptured (Poseidon): For 3 Seconds, victim takes rapid damage every 0.2 seconds while moving.
Hangover (Dionysus): For 4 Seconds, victim takes damage every 0.5 seconds. Effect can stack up to 5 times by default.
Marked (Artemis): For 2.5 Seconds, victim has a higher chance of taking Critical damage from any attack.
Jolted (Zeus): Victim’s next attack self-inflicts lightning damage that harms itself and nearby foes.
Exposed (Athena): For 5 Seconds, victim takes more damage when struck from behind.
Doom (Ares): After at least 1 Second, victim takes a burst of damage.
Chill (Demeter): Victim is slowed by 4%. Effect can stack up to 10 times.
Aphrodite Boons
Aphrodite gives boons that inflict Weak and Charmed on opponents, as well as improve survivability.
Weak:For at least 3 Seconds, victim deals at least 50% less damage.
Charmed:Charmed causes those enemies to attack other enemies, and deal no damage to Zagreus while charmed. While Bosses can be charmed, the charm lasts for a significantly shorter duration than on a normal enemy.

Athena Boons
Athena gives boons that allow abilities to Deflect projectiles and improve various defensive options.
In the first attempts her boons are pretty useful but once you manage to reach Elysium, i don’t really recommend going after her boons if there is any other choice.
Since floors slowly become more and more easier and quicker to clear, her protection is not really necessary except for boss battles and even in the best battles her boons are not the best. ;v; And also it is better to prefer her to become displeased during God Trials it is waaaay easier to deal with in my experience.
If she offers Sure Footing and you are as clumsy as me accept that without a secong thought tho, it is the absolute best.

Poseidon Boons
Many of Poseidon’s boons apply Knockback to your abilities. Knockback causes an ability to push an enemy an additional distance away from Zagreus, in the direction they were attacked from.
His boons also include a Status Curse called Ruptured, which deals damage to enemies when they move. Area bosses have immunity against Knockback, but will be affected by Rupture damage.
Though his Aid is not the easiest to use, it really helps with Wall Slams, Trap Kills, Lava Kills and such!!
Also if you have beaten the game and you are working on the relationships-codex and/or decorations Poseidon is the best choice because of Ocean’s Bounty boon, it really helps collecting Gemstones aaand you can trade them for Nectars afterwards >:3

Zeus Boons
Zeus boons mostly revolve around chain-lightning and lightning bolt effects and they inflict Jolted.
Jolted: Victim’s next attack self-inflicts lightning damage that harms itself and nearby foes.
When i first fought Theseus, he asked for Zeus’ help and i was so shocked/mad lol.
Though i don’t encounter him so often the Jolted effect really helps with Trials so go for him if he is avaible and you are after the Trial rewards.

Hermes Boons
Boons from Hermes function quite different than other Olympians. None of his boons occupy one of the five main slots, as they are designed to be mixed with and support other gods’ boons. Also, none of Hermes’ boons can be upgraded with a Pom of Power.
Also he does not have a Call/Aid boon and he never appears in Trial of Gods
To be honest i’m not a huge fan of Hermes nor his boons, but Quick Reload and Greater Call really helps during boss fights, it helps me deal with Minotaur faster most of the times.

Chaos Boons
Chaos’s boons function differently from the Olympian gods’ boons. They come in two halves: a Curse and a Blessing, which are randomly selected.
The Curse negatively affects Zagreus for a given number of encounters, at which point it permanently transforms into the Blessing for the remainder of the run. The rarity of the overall boon only affects the Blessing.
A boon’s name depends on which effects were randomly chosen, with the first half being the Curse and the second half the Blessing (Caustic Favor, Abyssal Grasp etc.).
Unlike other boons, you can get the same Blessing more than once in a run and the effects stack additively. Their boons cannot be upgraded with Pom of Power.
Their boons are not the best because of the curses but they are the most interesting and fun ones in my opinion! Heath penalty to encounter them is a bit of a problem but it simply can be fixed with their keepsake so definetely give it a try.
Will not appear if you have less than 50 total health.

Zeus: Lightning Strike, Thunder Flourish, Electric Shot, or Thunder Dash
Sisyphus Boons
Sisyphus is a former king sentenced to an eternity of punishment within Tartarus for attempting to cheat death and his punishment is to roll a boulder up a steep hill. ;w ;
Zagreus can sometimes encounter Sisyphus taking a break from boulder-pushing in Tartarus.
When encountered, Sisyphus will offer a choice between Health, Darkness or Obols.
He can only appear once during each escape attempt.
He can be found in floors marked with the exclamation mark.
Though he gives a random amount of Health, Darkness and Obol, according to my experience he usually gives a number between 30-70 of whatever you choose.
Eurydice and Patroclus Boons
Eurydice is a deceased oak nymph and the former wife of the musician Orpheus.
She has her own private corner in Asphodel, snd she can be found in island marked with an exclamation mark. During her encounters she softly sings ”Good Riddance” and it is the most important boon to my soul lol.
Since she spends all of her time cooking, she offers you 3 desserts and asks for you to choose one of them, she is the best!
Items Offered:
Ambrosia Delight: Up to 2 random Boons of yours are upgraded to the next Rarity.
Pom Porridge: Up to 4 random Boons of yours gain +1 Lv.
Refreshing Nectar: The next 3 Boons you find have upgraded Rarity.
Patroclus was a warrior in the Achaean army during the Trojan War, and was Achilles’ life-long companion and romantic partner. When you give Achilles the 6th ambrosia bottle, he tells Zagreus that his heart belongs to someone else, so yeah Patroclus is that someone else hehe.
He currently resides in Elysium and once again can be found at chambers marked with an exclamation mark.
During your encounters he offers you 3 items similar to items that can be found in the Well of Charon but with better qualities and asks for you to choose one of them.
Items Offered:
Kiss of Styx Premium: Replenish all uses of Death Defiance.
HydraLite Gold: For the next 5 chambers, you restore 30% Health when you enter the chamber.
Cyclops Jerky Select: Your Attack deals 60% more damage for the next 10 encounters.
