Rocket Arena Guide

Meet Rocket Arena for Rocket Arena

Meet Rocket Arena

Overview

General information about the game.

Introduction

Rocket Arena is an arena shooter 3v3 in 3rd person based on rockets. It difers from other shooter games because of it’s projectile mechanics.

The game concept, using the words of the creator, Kevin Franklin, is:
“Rocket Arena started with the goal of “Never say Die” combat. Our team passionately wanted to take on a new approach to combat in a multiplayer shooter. We developed features we believe are innovative in the shooter space:

  • Non-lethal rockets that blast players rather than kill them
  • A blast meter, rather than a health bar, that determines how far a player will fly
  • A Knockout and Megablast mechanic
  • Carefully tuned Rocket Jumping and Rocket Climbing
  • In-the-action returns, allowing players to fly back into the Arena rather than respawn”

The world in which the game is set in is Crater, a place where everything works by using rockets. Crater is divided in many regions and each has it’s own hero. Each hero has different abilities and rocket launchers.

Heroes

There are several playable characters in Rocket Arena, each with their own skills and story.
All special abilities make a sound when they are about to end.

Amphora

No one can hold back the tide!

Backstory:

“Amphora is a brilliant explorer and the pride of the Crystal Reef, an underwater world full of submarines and shimmering stones. Her rockets & abilities harness the power of water.
She is determined to learn the origin of Crater’s largest gem, The Star of Crater, and understand more about its mysterious glowing energy.
Amphora is a fast, frontline striker who can use her charged torpedos and homing mines for terrific combo potential. She may also transform into Hydro Form to chase down opponents and launch them out of the arena in a powerful cyclone.”

Abilities:

Hydro Form:

  • The special ability has a useful life and when that life reaches zero, it returns to its default form.

Blastbeard

Lost me trophy but I’m sure to win another!

Backstory:

“Blastbeard is a pirate who is hunting a different kind of treasure: first-place in the Tour! He won once, years ago, but now he can’t remember where he put the trophy!
He endlessly searched his home region, Crater’s Edge, for his lost trophy. Unable to find it, he’s decided to come out of retirement to rejoin the Rocket Championship Tour to win a replacement.
Blastbeard hits hard with heavy Cannonball and Anchor Rockets. His Shockwave can blast nearby opponents and even destroy their rockets. He is the hardest competitor to Megablast and thrives at mid-range combat and objective play.”

Abilities:

  • It is possible to hold the secondary ability to delay the firing of the anchor.

Boone

Megadon roam these wilds. Let’s find them.

Backstory:

“Boone and his winged pal Zik are on a quest to find a Megadon — an extinct, or at least elusive, prehistoric creature.
Boone lives in his outpost overlooking The Wilds – a barren landscape and home to the long lost Megadon he seeks.
Boone is a master of long range combat. His Megadon Scope allows him to attack with precision, or Zik can lend a wing to launch opponents skyward with his Vortex. Boone’s rockets can also ricochet, giving opponents few places to hide in the arena.”

Abilities:

  • Can jump up to 5 times.
  • When aiming he is able to glide for some time.

Izell

The spirit of the Jaaqua lives through me!

Backstory:

“Izell hails from The Gemstone Jungle. She’s a fleet-footed, fierce fighter, and is unmatched in close combat. Izell comes from a family of warriors, as both her mother and father previously won the Rocket Championship Tour.
Izell charges headfirst at her opponents, KOing them with lightning-fast efficiency, close range rockets, and powerful combos. Her bola rockets can also draw in her opponents to close the gap.”

Abilities:

  • Gain movement speed when hitting the enemy with the bola snare.
  • Holding the special attack allows you to aim, but the time is limited, you can know how much time left according to the prey that appears in front of Izell, the more open less the time.

Jayto

I refuse to let my city down!

Backstory:

“Jayto is from Boom City and hopes to emulate the success of the famous retired hero, Berno Boom. Jayto won last year’s trophy with a “lucky” shot. Some may even call it…a complete accident. His swagger is compensation for the rumors and whispers that say he didn’t deserve to win. Jayto is determined to prove the doubters wrong this season and show all of Crater he’s a true champion!
Jayto is a well-rounded competitor that balances offensive power with high mobility. Whenever his team is feeling pressured, he can instantly turn the momentum of a fight by supercharging his thruster suit to boost mobility and increase the blasting power of his Skypiercer Rockets.
With the help of his versatile thruster suit, Jayto is capable of switching between offense and defense easily. This flexibility makes him a threat at both ends of the arena.”

Abilities:

  • In the Rocket Swarm, secondary ability, he fires 12 mini-rockets.
  • Using the special ability if you are out of ammo will recover the ammo completely.
  • During the special ability, he fires 3 rockets at a time, that is, he has two shots per clip (magazine).

Kayi

Justice for the Kingdom

Backstory:

“Kayi is a brilliant strategist from the snowy, mountaintop kingdom of Serrata Peaks. She is also a princess who fled her beloved kingdom after a coup. Her reappearance in this year’s Tour has caused quite the stir. Many are wondering what her next move will be. There are even rumors that she has returned to regain her kingdom.
Kayi is a nimble competitor who attacks with frozen precision, picking off her opponents with charged strikes from her crossbow. Her grappling hook allows her to traverse the spires of her home region and provides great mobility across the arenas of the Rocket Championship Tour.
With her superb marksmanship, Kayi is an excellent KO finisher. She also provides tremendous utility and defense to her team with the protective field of her Snow Globe ability, which slows opponent projectiles and shields her allies.”

Abilities:

  • During the secondary ability it loads the shot faster, in addition to being able to move with reduced gravity, use C to descend and Space to climb vertically.
  • The special ability, the hook, is also very useful to finish enemies.

Mysteen

What you see is NEVER what you get…

Backstory:

“Mysteen is a mysterious and cunning competitor, who attacks with illusion & deception. Her home region, Conjura, as well as her reason for joining the Rocket Championship Tour, are shrouded in secrecy.
She is a powerful wielder of magic, and she has more than one trick up her sleeve. Using her spells, she can conjure a shield that blocks all incoming opponent projectiles.
Her most powerful magic even allows her to create a phantasm, an identical copy of herself. This ability causes her enemies to see double, and she may swap places with it at any time.”

Abilities:

  • The double copies the secondary ability, the dodge and the jumps, but shoots alone.
  • Holding space makes Mysteen glide for a while.

Plink

Let’s fire up the scrap rockets!

Backstory:

“The fast-firing Plink is new to the Tour. His rockets, teleporter, and boomerang are scavenged out of scrap from his home region.
Plink’s homing rockets chase enemies at close range, and his handy boomerang ricochets off the arena toward his target.
Plink is a short-range skirmisher who closes the distance between his opponents with a thrown teleporter, perfect for his preferred hit and run playstyle. He excels at getting behind enemy lines and attacking his opponents’ backsides. His small stature and high mobility make him a difficult target to hit. However, these traits are crucial to Plink’s survivability as he is one of the easiest competitors to Megablast.”

Abilities:

  • Your boomerang is capable of picking up items.
  • Because it bounces off the wall, the boomerang can be used to hit enemies twice.

Rev

Ride the chaos!

Backstory:

“Rev has a fierce spirit and is driven to win. She has a nearly unstoppable hoverboard, an impulse-fueled sticky proximity mine, and a fast-firing twin barrel launcher.
Rev’s home region, The Boiler, has never taken home a trophy in the Rocket Championship Tour. She’s determined to change that.
An aggressive competitor, Rev rushes down her opponents with a hoverboard. She boasts extreme mobility, making her an excellent offensive, front-line tool for most team compositions. Rev’s risky close range playstyle can often put her in harm’s way, but there’s no competitor in the Tour more effective at putting pressure on their opponents.”

Abilities:

  • Rev moves differently than other heroes.

Topnotch

Under siege the rockets fly, hold our Fortress in the sky!

Backstory:

“Topnotch is a hero of the RocketBot Uprising and defender of the Fort Rocket. Topnotch is a veteran of the Rocket Championship tour, having previously won two trophies. He uses his jetpack to attack from the sky, calling down artillery strikes from his airship, the Golden Zephyr.
This majestic airship watches over Fort Rocket, a heavily guarded museum which contains secrets and artifacts of ancient Crater. Topnotch is a jetpack equipped artillery specialist who barrages the arena from above.
He excels at long range aerial bombardment, zoning opponents and supporting allies from afar. He can also cook his primary grenades and detonate them remotely for increased precision.”

Abilities:

  • He has only one jump, but has a jet pack, just hold Space to propel.
  • It is possible to hold the shot to delay detonation.

Flux

What? It’s only rocket science!

“Flux is a genius scientist, avid cat enthusiast, and the youngest person ever admitted to Propulsion Prep. Flux believes science can solve any problem! Crater’s most excitable prodigy recently took a break from her classes to join the Tour. Why? She prefers to test her science in the field, and what better field than a Rocket Tour arena?!

She uses a trusty laser pointer to guide her aptly-named Rockats (Rocket Cats. Rockats. Get it?) around the arena towards opponents. She can also create a massive Black Hole Cat that moves slowly across the map, growing exponentially in size and power by devouring all rockets in its path. With a fully fed Black Hole Cat, Flux can help her team push towards objectives and zone out opponents.

Flux prefers to orchestrate her rainbow-fueled mayhem from a safe distance. If trouble does manage to reach her though, she can instantly shift into another dimension (appropriately named, “Fluxverse”) to slip away unharmed. While in this colorful parallel reality, she is able to skip about the arena completely unseen.”

Abilities:

  • The rockets, Flux’s main shot, are able to pick up an item, in addition to being able to “walk” around the map for a long time, compared to the others.
  • It is possible to “see” Flux as she travels through the fluxverse, she leaves a rainbow trail behind.

Items

There are also items that could change the gameplay and turn the match completely.

Mega Gift

When you use it both you and your teammates get a random item.

Rocket Magnet

It attracts the close enemy fire stopping it to reach it’s objective.

Ninja Headband

Dodging gets better, dodge cooldown goes down to 1 second.

Throw Bomb

Just as the name says, a throwable bomb that explodes on your enemies.

Speed Boost

It boosts your movement speed.

Trip Mine

A throwable mine that explodes when an enemy passes by the sensor. Your mines have blue sensor and the enemy has red sensor. They can be destroyed if you shoot at them.

Knockout

Knockout is a competitive mode, the objective is to use rockets, abilities, and items to blast your opponents out of the arena. Teams score “Knockouts’ by forcing opponents out of the arena. The team that reaches the score target first wins the match.

Rocketball

Two teams compete to pick up the Rocketball and score it into the opposing team’s goal. You may score by either running, throwing, or blasting the Rocketball into the opposing team’s goal. The team with the most points at the end of the timer, or the team to reach the point cap first wins the match.

Best heroes for the mode: Plink, Flux, Izell, Rev and Amphora, because of their mobility. Blastbeard and Boone because of their specials are good for defense.

Mega Rocket

In Mega Rocket, a large rocket flies into the arena, blasting players out of the way when it lands. Upon landing, a capture zone appears. The goal of Mega Rocket is to defend and capture the zone to score. The team that captures the most rockets at the end of the timer, or reaches the point cap wins the match.
More people in the point captures it faster, so if you join your teammates in the point, you can only benefit from it!
You can also contest the point, no matter how many enemies are inside of it.
Try to wait until a new mega rocket arrives to KO your enemies, so they are off the map when the mega rocket arrives.
Even if you don’t make it to the point, you can still shoot your enemies to blast them off the point and stop the capture.

Best heroes for the mode: Heroes with habilities that have area damage, like Blastbeard, Flux and Topnotch are great to deal damage and mantain your enemies out of the point. Heroes with high mobility, like Rev, Izell and Plink, they can arrive at the mega rocket faster. Kayi is also a good choice because her secondary hability slows the enemies and their rockets, helping you stay longer in the point.

Treasure Hunt

In Treasure Hunt, there are two ways to score points:

  • Hold the treasure chest. Pickup the chest and hold it to earn points. Earn bonus points for earning the final coin from each chest that spawns.
  • Pickup Coins. In the coin round, dozens of coins spawn around the map – pick them up to score.

Protect your teammates holding the chest! If your teammate is about to get KO’d and will drop the chest, try to stay close to them and get the chest before your enemies do.
Holding the treasure chest when it’s out of coins will give your team 10 bonus points, so it’s always worth protecting it. Don’t stop fighting for it!
The coins spawn at the same place each round, so learning the best routs is the key to getting a big number of them. Remember that you can play Treasure Hunt (and every other mode) in private matches to learn the ideal routes.
KOs are still important in the coin round, since KO’d players can’t pick up anything, which lowers the competition for your team at the time to catch big quantities of coins. In general, attacking the enemy is a good idea, because it will blast them off their coin routes.

Best heroes for the modes: Different heroes are good for each round. Good heroes for survival, like Mysteen with her mirror-shield, Kayi with her snow globe or Blastbeard with his high resistance to KOs, are excellent to hold the treasure chest. High mobility heroes, like Rev, Amphora, Izell and Plink can collect coins really fast.

Rocketbot Attack [PvE]

Call in your teammates and fight rocketbots in a coop mode! Try to KO all the rocketbots before the time ends!

Tips and strategy

  • Each rocket have its own speed and trajectory, learning how each one works.
  • The game has no friendly fire or self-inflicted damage, so don’t worry about it, use your own weapon to rocket jump without fear.
  • Use dodge at the right time, it has cooldown like any other skill, it is also very useful for dodging skill, not just rockets.
  • Some special skills will reset the jump counter, allowing you to jump more.
  • After 8 seconds the KO bar starts to restore, avoid the risk, step back and wait for a while.

Maps

Boom City

Apogee Acres

Each starting area in Jayto’s home has a defensible blast window that may be opened and closed by firing at it. Well timed rocket-jumps and rocket climbs are key to maneuvering through the center of the map.

Hypersonic Heights

UFOs move through the world providing great pathing opportunities to avoid KO’s and run the Rocketball. Grab items in the hypersonic gardens near the Berno Boom statue to help push objectives.

Serrata Peaks

Frostwind Grove

Navigate the large tree to avoid incoming fire and get the drop on opponents. Use the secret passageways between the spires to run the Rocketball and get the jump on opponents in Mega Rocket zones.

Icefall Keep

Great use of Jump-pads provides quick navigation through the Icefaal Keep and great opportunities to get in and out of combat.

Fort Rocket

The Golden Zephyr

The Zephyr’s surrounding platform vessels are great to help heroes recover from falling off the map. Careful rocket-jumping allows nimble navigation from the lower decks to higher decks.

The Wilds

Megadon Junction

The Rocket Rail Line Express train speeds through Megadon Junction. Keep an ear out for it’s horn and avoid being blasted!

Stompy’s Refuge

A high-ground near Boone’s Outpost provides a great location to both blast opponents and look for Megadon. Dodging rockets near the Megadon ribcage, and avoiding fire in the digsite is a great way to prevent being KO’d.

Crystal Reef

Shimmering Depths

Crystal Subs move through the map providing rocket jumping opportunities. Watch for the underwater geysers that blast water vertically.

Star Of Crater

A large, brilliant crystal servers as the focal point for combat. Holes in rock formations provide cover from incoming rockets.

Gemstone Jungle

Temples Of Jaaqua

The spirits remain of a long-extinct apex predator within a verdant jungle known for its troves of jewels and myriad of traps and dangers.

Crater’s Edge

Grand Harbor

A pair of wrecked pirate ships dominate the harbor, positioned as they were during their final naval battle. There are rumors of treasure stored below their decks but piles of unstable rockets discourage any would-be explorers. So steer clear, if ye value yer hide!

Lagoon Of Doom

Home to bottomless waterfalls, the Lagoon is forever swathed in fog. They say that sea serpents ply its depths, ready to snag anyone foolhardy enough to cross the water. Surely, it’s nonsense – but just in case, stick to the beach!

Useful info on the maps:

  • On the Megadon Junction there is a train going around every now and then, avoid hitting it, it deals damage and it throws you far.
  • In a lot of maps there are jump-pads that will throw you in a certain distance or can be used for speed.
  • Shooting at the Jaaqua head in the first spawn area in Temples Of Jaaqua will make giant rockets come from the skies, dealing damage to your enemies.
  • If you stay outside the dome in the maps on Crystal Reef, you have lower gravity and you take damage after some time.
  • On Shimmering Depths there is a geyser that blasts you up, and could potentially blast you out the map, try to avoid it.
  • In many maps there are structures that blow wind and throw you up.

Blast Pass

Is a season system, pretty common in games at the moment.
The pass costs 950 rocket fuels, and after you buy it you need to play to level up to the max level and unlock every reward. By buying the pass, you get enough rocket fuel to buy the next one. You also get XP boosts.
Each season will have a new pass and you will have the entire season to level up.
It is possible to buy levels instead of just playing to level it up, but each level costs 150 rocket fuels.
