Overview
Just a simple step by step on how to make your game look like an actually finished product thanks to the modding community!
Introduction
Hello everyone!
In this guide you will learn how to apply some of the best mods and patches this game has right now.
First of all I’d like to thank Zeikar for answering all my noob questions haha!
Feel free to Verify Integrity of of Game Files if you came to this guide after messing up.
It’s ok I had to do it like a thousand times 🙂
Right Click on the game > Properties > Local Files > Verify Integrity of Game Files.
With that out of the way, let’s go!
Downloads
Download the tools you want to use, at the time of writing I’m using:
- ReShade Settings Redone.
- Defilter.
- Mobile UI Removal Tool.
- Chrono Font Patcher.
All of these are available to download at the following Link
Now we are going to grab a couple of mods, again I’m using:
Tools
Now that we have everything we want I’ll show you how to use some of the tools.
First of all, go to the Installation folder and backup the following:
- libcocos2d.dll
- resources.bin
You can do so by simply renaming them to something like resources_Original.bin or by making a copy to some other folder in your computer.
1. Run the .exe file.
2. Select Game.
3. Select Rendering API: OpenGL.
4. Do you wish to download a collection of standard effects? Yes.
Check whichever you want (Zeikar’s thread has the recommended list).
If done correctly it should say “Installing to Chrono Trigger … Succeded!”.
At this point you can follow Zeikar’s recommended configurations or mess with it at will!
1. Place CT_Defilter.exe in your game directory and run it.
2. Press ENTER.
If done correctly it should say Done.
1. Place CT_Patcher.exe and patch.dif in your game directory and run the CT_Patcher.exe
No way to mess this one up, just close the window after it’s done 🙂
1. Install the font Chrono.ttf
2. Place ct-font.exe and ct-font.dif in your game directory and run the ct-font.exe
No way to mess this one up, just close the window after it’s done 🙂
Mods
Finally we are going to install all the mods!
As mentioned before, go to the Installation folder and backup the files below if you haven’t:
- libcocos2d.dll
- resources.bin
For all of which you want to apply do the following:
1. Run CTExplore.exe
2. Go to the Patch tab > Open Patch > Select the .ctp file you want > Open.
3. Do you want to clear all previously configured replacements before loading this patch? NO.
4. After it finishes loading go to the File tab > Save Archive.
Repeat steps 2 through 4 for every .ctp file you want to install.
Done!
Screenshots
If you followed everything exactly like mentioned it should look more or less like this:
Just to be clear, I changed around some values for SepiaTint in ReShade to my liking, Zeikar’s configuration has less blue in it, but still removes the yellow decently.
I’d rather have everything more blue than see any slight amount of the hideous default yellow Crono that Square Enix made, damn it!
Credits
As mentioned before, I did not create nor own any of the things in this guide, I merely decided to make a guide after annoying Zeikar with my questions to help everyone that’s new to this like I am, credit goes to the modding community for this!
