Overview
A collection of tips and tricks for surviving the game’s Endurance Mode.
Warmth & Food
You will start Endurance Mode next to your broken down Snowcat with both the Warmth & Food stat at 100%, they will quickly deteriorate however, forcing you to venture out into the wild to find both.
Warmth
Warmth can be managed in several ways:
- A basecamp, which must be lit using 5 wood and lasts only a short time.
- A bonfire, which must be lit and will also signal for extraction and thus, alert enemies of your presence.
- A burn barrel, found in enemy camps, lasts indefinetly.
- A lantern, found in enemy camps and shelters, mobile source of heat that
lasts for as long you manage to keep it intact. - A stove, found in shelter houses.
- Setting (or getting) yourself on fire… the least desirable option.
Siberian Cold
Failing to stay sufficiently warm will cause Lara to cool over time.
Yellow means you’re alright, but once in the red, you will no longer be able to move at full speed, find a fire quickly.
Blinking red means you’re freezing, you’re now on borrowed time… find a fire!
Food
Food can gained from several sources:
- Hunting animals.
- Scavenging predator kills.
- Foraging from berry bushes.
- Supplies from enemy camps.
- Supplies from shelters.
Travelling
Your supplies will last you a short while, but you can stock up on some extra food to keep hunger at bay.
The green cemicircle shows how much extra food you currently have, try and keep it full.
Again, yellow means you’re alright, but you should find something to eat before it goes red.
Blinking red means you’re starving… find something to eat!
Wilds of Siberia
A frozen wasteland filled with danger, welcome.
You’re not alone, and to make matters worse, nature itself seems to be against you.
Weather
From fog to snowstorms, the weather will change from time to time and you should change plans accordingly.
Visibilty will be lower during thick fog or heavy storms, and the temperature will be lower, causing Lara to grow colder faster. Combat will be more difficult as the snowfall makes precise targeting more difficult.
Day/Night
This one should be easy; at night it’s colder, find shelter or if you’re carrying a lantern, push on.
Camp
A spot to set up a campfire, nothing more, nothing less.
Enemy Camp
Enemy encampments, either belonging to Trinity or the Deathless are found across the map.
They mean danger, but also opportunity as you can often find supplies.
A signal fire may sometimes be found nearby.
Landmarks
Those that came before and didn’t make it, landmarks often display frozen bodies and their left behind possessions or supplies that have been forgotten and left behind.
Can be looted for a variety of goods, including (rarely) artifacts or ammo.
Ruins
Remnants of the past, artifacts may be found near ruins, as well as resources.
A camp can always be found near ruins, a signal fire may also be present, making it an excellent choice to call for extraction.
Shelters
Made made structures scattered around the forest, they can be anything from a run down shack to a (small) walled settlement, you can find both resources and food as well as the rare artifact.
Shelters will sometimes have a signal fire within their premises.
Signal Fire
Scattered around the forest or found near shelters, camps & ruins, they’re your ticket out of siberia, just beware when lighting one, you may not like who or what shows up.
Beasts of Siberia
The Wilds
You’re deep in the siberian wilds and there is plenty of fauna to be encountered, not all of it friendly…
That said, you will have to hunt both the harmless and harmfull if you hope to survive out there.
Hunting will provide you with both food and resources to upgrade your equipment.
Friendly Critters
Rabbits & Squirrels are abundant and provide you with a small amount of food and occasionally hides, they are small and quick however, shooting them is a bit more challenging then the larger animals.
Avian Prey
Crows and Pidgeons will often fly overhead or can be found perched atop rocks or branches, they’ll provide you with a small amount of food and, more importantly, feathers that can be used to make arrows.
Large Game
Wild Boar and Deer can be found wandering the forest, they provide a good amount of food and hides for use in crafting.
Both will run away when they spot you, but take note that while Boar will usually run away, they can charge and damage you with their tusks.
Predators
Wolves, Lynx and Bears.
While they provide you with needed resources, they’re the least desirable of animals to encounter, as they’ll actively attack you.
Wolves will usually appear in pairs or packs of three and will not necessarily appear close together, if you see one, stay alert. Howls will gave away an aproximate position, weakest of the predators.
Lynx can be found solitary or in pairs, they are quick and will close quickly if they spot you. May make a low growl when near or remain silent, making spotting more difficult.
Bears are the most dangerous of all animals and can quickly kill you if caught unprepared and while not the fastest, you should still keep as much distance as possible. Will growl when near.
For combat with any of these, remember FIRE & POISON arrows, they will save your life.
Acquiring Resources
Survive & Thrive
You’ve conquered the wilds and fought the beasts of Siberia, but to stay alive you’ll want to stay well equipped.
There are eight common resources available to you in Endurance Mode.
Cloth
Used for bandages, gear upgrades and lighting Signal Fires.
Can be found in crates located inside crypts, shelters, ruins & enemy camps, may be found on defeated enemies as well.
Hides
Used for gear upgrades, taken from hunted animals, can also be found in shelters and ruins.
Feathers
Used for crafting arrows, if you prefer playing with the bow, make sure you don’t run out.
Can be obtained by killing birds, finding them on the forest floor or from bird’s nests.
Wood
Used for gear upgrades and campfires.
Obtained from trees (surprise!), always keep some in reserve, you never know when you might need a fire, or some arrows.
Berries
Used for bandaging/healing, though they also provide food.
Obtained from berry bushes found throughout the forest, can be found in crypts as well. You can also find baskets filled with them in shelters and enemy camps.
Deathcaps
Used to create poison arrows & poison traps.
Can be obtained from rotten tree stumps in the forest or found in crypts.
Oil
Used for crafting gear upgrades and fire arrows.
Can be obtained from oil canisters found in shelters or from seeps found in the forest.
Salvage
Used for crafting gear and weapon upgrades.
Obtained from salvage crates found in enemy camps and shelter, may be found on defeated enemies as well.
Exotic Materials
Some things are worth more then gold…
There are seven kinds of exotic materials available in Endurance Mode.
Bear Hide
Obtained from Bears, used for gear upgrades, also found in landmark chests or shelter strongboxes.
Exotic Hide
Obtained from white wolves, lynx and stags, also found in landmark chests or shelter strongboxes.
Boar Fat
Obtained from boar, also found in landmark chests or shelter strongboxes.
Antlers
Obtained from stags, very rarely found in shelter strongboxes.
Parts
Obtained from trinity soldiers and salvage crates, also found in shelter strongboxes.
Magnesite Ore
Found as chunks or veins inside crypts.
Chromite Ore
Rarely found, may be found in addition to magnesite when mining, requires the Geologist skill granted by ancient lecterns.
Crypts & Artifacts
A Glimpse of History
You’ve found your first crypt! Head inside, but mind your step, there’s danger ahead…
Crypts are hidden underground and all share a few things; they’re dark and filled with traps, the artifacts you’re after can also be found inside however.
You can find anywhere from three to six small artifacts and one large artifact.
Needless to say, traversing a crypt requires a fair amount of climbing and at times scaling rock walls or swimming (cold!), don’t get reckless, falling can have terminal consequences.
The Dangers
Because it won’t be that easy.
This could’ve ended badly.
Spike pits open up when you step upon the tiles covering them, they’ll give way and you’ll have a small window to jump out of harm’s way.
This might end badly.
Ceiling traps are activated by stepping on a pressure plate, causing them to swing down towards you, shoot the blocks before it’s to late!
Not all ceiling traps are activated when heading down into a crypt, some may only trigger on the way back up, watch out.
This ended badly.
Ankle traps are small and non-lethal, though they will cause injury.
Trinity
Traps aren’t all however, trinity forces may sometimes appear in crypts, these may be lowly grunts or their elite soldiers, the latter can prove a challenge in a confined space, particularly when there’s a flamethrower involved…
The Grand Prize
All worth it in the end, maybe.
At the end of the crypt, either a lexicon granting a special skill may be found, or a sarcophagus granting an ancient bow piece.
What did you find?
Extraction
Time to Leave
Because your haul of artifacts has grown to be quite valuable, and the risk isn’t worth it anymore.
Or maybe you’re cold, miserable and want to go home.
Signal Fires
Time to light that giant pile of wood!
It’ll burn bright, and let everyone know where you are.
You’ll need five oil and five cloth to light it, though if you’ve gotten this far, you should have those on hand.
Prepare for battle, stock/craft up on special ammo for a worst case scenario, it’s quite possible to lose in these last few minutes.
And take up an advantageous position if you can.
Perched atop a watchtower, safe from danger… mostly.
This is my choice of exit if possible, animals don’t climb up and ranged enemies can be picked off relatively safely. It’s not without danger however, if enemies start throwing grenades up there, you will have a problem.
Other then that; wait for the cavalry to arrive and hope your signal doesn’t attract to much attention, dealing with both wild animals and soldiers at once is a challenge!
