Simple Input and Output
There is nothing to talk about. Simply use a sorter for input and output and it keep doing it until the storage is empty/full.
One thing to notice for stacked storage:
If the bottom storage is full, input will automatically overflow and be stored at the top ones.

Controlled Output
It’s easy to build a controlled Output:
If we stack two storages and connect the output sorter on the top, then it will only output things when the bottom storage is full.
This can be useful to setup automatically overflow.
For example, If I would like to burn all my excessive hydrogen, i can setup the following flow at my hydrogen production output:
Production Output ==> Storage
Storage ==> Consumer
Storage =?=> Thermal Power Plant
(Notice that the Storage mentioned above are the same one)
Notice that we can have multiple storages, so this setup won’t affect our ability to store hydrogen in tanks:
Production ==> Storage A ==> Storage B ==> Consumer
Storage A =?=> Thermal Power Plant
If we use tanks as Storage B, the overflow burning only happens when Storage B is full.
Controlled Input
This one is a little difficult to build, but it can be achieved by the “perfect controller” system I mentioned in my other guide:

Basically, we need something like this:
This can be useful to control certain production activities. For example:
(Hydrogen flow)
Refinery ==> Storage ==> Consumer
X Cracking =?=> Storage =?=> Thermal Power Plant
(Notice that the Storage mentioned above are the same one)
Now that we only burn hydrogen when it’s too much (consumer cannot keep up with production) but at the same time we also stops X cracking from using up our oil.
