Blood Offerings: How Much Is Too Much?

Overview

That weapon is ultra-tempting but I can’t afford it…

Budgeting for Corruption

To figure out whether it’s worth it to take that blood offering, we have to establish a budget for our corruption. In order to do that, let’s examine the corruption system.

The Final Curse

The Final Curse is applied at 500 Corruption.

With the Will of Sich’al Blessing active. that becomes 600.

In other words, if we assume that we will eventually gain enough skill that we can play around the first four curses, our “maximum gross Corruption” (Max) is either 499 or 599.

The Map

The map has seven rooms (+20) per level, including the Boss.

Additionally, we may lift one curse (-100/-120) after each boss fight. This means that our Corruption “overhead” (Rooms) is:

Exploration Length
No Blessing
Will of Sich’al
One Stage
140
140
Two Stages
180
160
Three Stages
220
180

The Budget

With all that in mind, here is what our final tally looks like:

No Blessing
Exploration Length
Max
Rooms
Budget
One Stage
499
140
359
Two Stages
499
180
319
Three Stages
499
220
279

Will of Sich’al
Exploration Length
Max
Rooms
Budget
Net +
One Stage
599
140
459
100
Two Stages
599
160
439
120
Three Stages
599
180
419
140

So in short: we have, at the very minimum, 275 Corruption to work with. That’s quite a lot. That’s enough for two Cursed items, a smattering of stats, and an upgrade, even with some room left for stray Dark damage.

In short: yes. That item you can’t afford probably is worth the Corruption. At least the first four or so times you have to make that choice.

After the Third Boss

So what about our budget after we defeat each Avatar?

Well, in the words of another famed adventurer:
