Overview
This guide will teach you not only the basics but advanced tips and tricks on how to win most of your hunted game mode rounds. I will tell you the best way to survive, which weapons to loot, how to manuever around the map and places to avoid.
Part 1: Your Settings
Before you enter a hunted game mode, you must first check out your settings.
Now I understand that everyone runs the game off different settings and plays differently. I will just go ahead and show you my settings while I point out some important setttings that you should have it set on if you want to do well in the hunted game mode although you don’t have to set it on as I have set it up. Just pointing out some good tips that will definitely benefit you.
For your video settings I would highly recommend that you full screen it. You do not need to max out your video settings because not everyone has a high end gaming computer.
Audio is going to be the most important factor in the hunted game mode. I will explain how it will be implemented later on in this guide but the settings you should have max out game volume and sfx volume so that you will be able to hear everything from footsteps to things being picked up or dropped and etc. You should also set up your microphone and what not if you like to communicate with other people.
I would also highly recommend that you disable mouse acceleration because it will give you a smoother aiming system when you play and also make sure your ironsight mode and crouch mode is set onto hold and not toggle. **Trust me it is much better this way**
For all your movement controls, weapon controls and communication controls and all that other settings, set it up to your own taste. Everything works. Although I do have to say I would recommend setting up your last weapon used key to Q because it would allow for a much smoother transition between weapons. If you have a more preferable choice then by all means use it. I am just used to the Q key.
Part 2: Selecting Server
Once you have gone through all your settings and doodled around with it and selected all the settings that you WANT, it is time to go into your first game.
Normally I would go into a 16 man hunted game mode server to maximize gameplay time and for the overall intense and fun game. However you can always join a 8 man hunted game mode server.
TIP: I would highly highly recommend that instead of picking a quick start game
i.e on the main menu, selecting hunted game mode and then selecting the map.
I would select open server browser and finding a server that best suits you. I cannot stress the importance that you find the best possible server for you because let’s be honest here. Noone wants to join into an intense match of hunted with 200 ping. You should join a server that is set up near your location. Lets say you are in New York, you should not click on a server that is located in EU or California. Then again if there are no servers near you then you can join those servers although I warn you, its not gonna end well for you and I highly doubt there is no server that hosts a hunted game mode near you.
Part 3: Starting Out
Congrats! You have joined your hunted game! Whether or not you are a new player or a veteran player at the game, you will notice that you start out with 3 items.
Item 1: Your Phone
Item 2: Your Melee Weapon (down below is a list, I may miss one or two so if I am let me know)
– Golf Club
– KaBar
– Wrench
– Baseball Bat
– Metal Baseball Bat
– Fire Axe
– Fire Extinguisher ( believe it or not I know someone who spawned in with one )
– Sledgehammer
– Machete
Item 3: Your Handgun
– 1911 w/ 2 boxes of ammo —– total 7/14 rounds
– Sig Pistol w/ 2 boxes of ammo —- total 15/30 rounds
Part 4: The Gameplay (warning super long part)
Section A: Fresh Start Spawn
Okay so as mentioned in the last part, you start out with your melee weapon, pistol and your handy dandy phone. When you spawn in, it will be in a set spawn point somewhere in a dark backyard either in an enterable house or non enterable house.
Yes you get a phone but I never check or use the phone. With that being said don’t just ignore the phone. That little device can save your life in the game. When it beeps it usually warns you another player is nearby. Here’s a catch, it won’t always beep when there is another survivor is nearby. The beep in general will also beep for the other person so beware.
Regarding the melee weapons, don’t ditch them right off the bat, it will be your last resort if you ever go out of ammo. Furthermore if you are skilled in melee you can kill of NPC zombies very silently when you can’t outrun them, it is much better then gunning them down and reveal your spot for other players.
Now most people who start out will literally bum rush their way to a house and get slaughtered by other survivors doing the same thing ( ironic isn’t it, kinda reminds you of the Hunger Games lul )
one of the greatest things I picked up while playing this mode, which I will pass onto you all lovely people is that no matter where you spawn, there will always be one- two survivors very close to you. All you have to do is drop your melee weapon ( do it discreetly, everyone near you will hear you dropping it. At the same time sound ♥♥♥♥♥ and listen for the same thing ) leave your spawn point. Venture about 15 feet and hide in a bush or behind a car and look for a survivor idiotically looking for a house. Trust me it works 100% of the time. This will not only give you an early game advantage but it will provide you a nice chance to loot their bodies for ammo and weapons. On a good loot, the other person will have a gun different then you thus giving you an extra weapon to switch to if you engage in a lengthy shootout later down the road. This just may save your life.
**Warning: one bad thing about the spawns is that the people who spawn out with the 1911 have a very very high advantage over the people who spawn with the Sig. Not only does it do more damage but is more accurate and has further range. This advantage is only usauble if they know how to use it. Remember no matter how good a gun is, the person behind it makes all the difference**
Above is the warning that will help you and may not. Yes the 1911 is a great pistol. However, in order to use it effectively you need to aim for the head. Which is why it brings me back to part 1, settings. Make sure your aim down sights is on the hold setting becuase it gives you a better versatility in a firefight especially since its a CQC situation. You can quickly swich back to not aiming down your sights compared to having it toggle option. Trust me. Even if you don’t have the 1911, the Sig utilizes the same concept. YOU HAVE TO AIM FOR THE HEAD. Practice makes perfect. By aiming for the head in 2-3 shots from the 1911 and 4-6 shots from the glock will guarentee your adversary’s death. If you don’t aim for the head, well you are not only going to lose your health quickly, lose your ammo or you lost the advantage of the suprise ambush.
Once you have gotten past the first 1-2 surviors, slowly and very ninja like, sneak into a house preferably thru the back door, if its a window, take your chances and go thru the front door because smashing the glass alerts the entire neighborhood. If any thing is open or broken, get ready for a gun fight, someone or people are in that house looting. Get ready to jump them. But be warned they may be better armed then you at that point. Normally I take my chances and take them on but if you arn’t an aggressive player then venture around and find another house. Now not everyone who plays this game is an idiot and leaves the doors open when they loot. Whatever house you enter make sure you pay attention to the footsteps and high pinging sounds like opening doors and what not. Always assume that someone is in that house even though there may not be any. Once you have done that start looting.
Section B: Climax Game
Okay so lets say you have gotten some good loot and weapons and an abundance of ammo, what do you do?
Well there are two ways you can go about this.
Option 1: The first way to go about it is to make sure your house has a good garage with ONE exit or a good attic* Once you have that checked off your list, grab a nail gun and some boards and literally board the crap out of everything, windows, doorways and what not. Now this is very time consuming and people may come into your house while you are doing that so be careful. Now once that is done, box yourself into the garage or attic. A bedroom is also good but make sure you have a window that zombies can’t get into and make sure that window is a good exit. Now speaking of this way, most people tend to go about this way. This way and I’m talking about the garage, works like a charm and it can also be a curse. Most people go about this way, now if you got some good weapons like an ar15 or ak74u or mp5k or shotgun with an abundance of ammo, like almost full or mostly full then yea by all means box yourself in. Note this however, once the zombies break through then well, you are pretty screwed. Other survivors going thru your house while you are in the garage is also going to know you are in there and will engage you so you should be prepared for that. If you don’t have that much ammo or good guns then stay away from the garage. This is the same for the attic. Some people like to camp in the attic, while I have done this a few times and have gotten good results, its a pretty bad place to be in, there will always be 2 windows where zombies can get thru and the giant hole in the floor if you don’t know how to control that opening well, say bye bye. If you absolutely want to camp in your house then I would recommend the bedroom or one of the rooms with a door and a good window exit. Most people don’t camp in the bedroom and if you barricade it then you should be good cuz noone will check it. Normally the rooms where it is dark with no loot is usually the best rooms, most people don’t even bother going to those rooms so its your best option. Now this option I used plenty of times and its worked great but my second option while more risky is a better option and will work in your favor.
Option 2: After finding all your loot, escape your house if needed and go back to a spawn point like a dark backyard or a bush and camp there, do beware of venturing survivors going from house to house. This option works the best because almost every single survivor camps in the house, barely anyone goes back to their spawn point and thus you are safe from other people. Not to mention there is like barely any zombies in those areas while most are either on the streets or chasing survivors or breaking down windows and doors. Remember that the goal and objective of the hunted game mode is not to kill as many players as possible but rather survive to the end. Unless you want to kill as many people as possible.
Section C: End Game
Once you are down to about the last 2-4 players is when you really really want to watch out and pay attention to footsteps and noises, usually around the 2 player left mark all the zombies and player zombies will be attracted to you and swarm you so prepare to defend your area or get ready to bolt if you are outside. Normally I would try to run away and try to evade zombies and kill player zombies and let the zombies kill the other person but sometimes you may have to hunt the other guy down espically if he’s camped in a garage. Once you follow these steps whala you have won the game.
Part 4: Continued
Unless you get stuck or surrounded and die first.
Zombies: Regarding the topic of zombies in the hunted game mode, when you are outside, do not ever ever shoot a zombie, it will give away your position and anyways when you are outside you can easily evade them and run away. Now if its a player zombie, try your best to kill it. I always lead the player zombies head because most people who control them just literally run from side to side to evade shots. If you lead your target you will shoot them down. Body shots will never work on zombie regardless if they are AI or Player controlled. Headshots is always a must. Now if you are in a house well them you have no choice but to kill them.
Houses: Most houses that you can enter are super brightly lit. These houses are also the most heavily entered and populated houses so enter with caution. There are some houses are very dimly lit and are mostly dark, these houses are less entered and less populated but there are some who enter them so also enter caustiously because they can ambush you in the dark if you are not careful. Some houses are decoy and may appear to be enterable but arn’t.
Flashlight: Most people’s issues especially when they are in a dark house is the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ flashlight. NEVER EVER USE THE FLASHLIGHT! there are so many out there that use this and its death. If you use the flashlight it instantly gives away your position and people will know where you are. The only time you may want to use the flashlight is in a really dark house and you can’t see. Even then I just leave these houses alone.
Part 5: Sound
Make sure you got some good headsets preferably surround sound before you play because it will greatly benefit you. It allows you to pinpoint where people are at and that can save your life and give you a suprise advantage. Cheap good options are the Razer Krakens. To those that wonder what I use I am currently using the Plantronics Gamecom Commander.
Sound in this game mode is crucial. Sound not only gives your position away but it can save your life. Pay attention to sounds of doors openings, item pickups, item drops and sounds of gun fire. Also listen to someone who is barracading something. These will allow you know if someone is in the house or not. Try not to make any noise at all. Most people don’t use good headsets so I normally just run around in a house but doing this can lead to you dying. This is why I say turn your sfx and game volume all the way up so you can hear these effects.
Sometimes when a player zombie is nearby and knows you are there he will roar, it sounds kinda similar to a left 4 dead 2 horde imbound sound. When you hear this make sure you are ready for a shootout with zombies.
Part 6: Various Effects
Panting:
this means you are out of stamina, just regain it but slowing down and walking or crouching. Try not to do this in the open.
Blurry Screen:
this means you are infected. Unfortunately you took one too many hits from a zombie and it infected you. This usually happens in higher populated servers so beware. There is nothing you can do so it means you are genuinely screwed. Better luck next time
Part 7: Weapons and Ammo
When looting you will come across some weapons. I will tell you which ones to use and pick up and which ones to not.
Weapons
– Sig ( I only pick it up for ammo ) ( Flashlight Yes )
– 1911 ( eh good only in beginning, later on in the round its pretty useless ) ( Flashlight Yes)
– Revolver ( its like the 1911 but its only good if you headshot with it. 1 hit HS kill )
– Crossbow ( Only good for experienced players )
– melee weapons ( Good for silent kills )
– Sniper Rifle ( Only good on long range )
– BLR ( I don’t use it, most people don’t use it but there are those who are an absolute beast with it and can nail you from really far away especially if they got the micro red dot sight workshop download )
– KG9 ( its good for fire rate and close range kills but its okay. I would pick it up if you don’t have anything else and for mp5k ammo )
– MP5K ( what can I say, one of the best guns in the game, very good but only use it in bursts and make sure its at the head ) ( Flashlight Yes )
– AR15 ( its like the ultimate weapon ) ( Flashlight Yes)
– AK74U ( like the AR15 but more damage and more recoil and no flashlight oh and less accurate )
– Over and Under Shotty ( Great but only 2 rounds at once and no flashlight, good starter gun but I would try to find something else )
– Mossberg Shotty ( the most OP gun in the mode and I literally mean it but don’t go sniping with it ) ( Flashlight Yes)
– Grenade ( Very useful to blow up players in long or close range, you can shoot on the grenade with a sniper or any other firearms to detonate it or bait zombies to another direction with it’s loud explosion )
– IED ( This device will be your best friend if you are planning to camp somewhere for a long time )
AMMO
– sniper clip: sniper rifle and BLR
– a tube thing: crossbow
– a square box: shotgun shells
– a long rectangular box: KG9, MP5K, Sig ammo
– a thin small rectangular box: 1911 and Revolver ammo
– M4 mag: AR15 and AK74U clips
Mis.
-health pack: I would keep one just in handy, never know when it can save you
– flashlight: completely pointless and useless
now speaking of ammo, don’t pick up the ammo you don’t need, however if you find m4 clips or 1911 ammo and sig ammo pick it up because you will find one of those guns. Same goes for the shotgun shells. Just ignore everything else
Part 8: Some Tips
– In Aurora Estates there is a open garage with drums inside, the house you can’t go into. There is always someone in there, always. They will be behind the drums
– There will always be someone in one of the extraction zones with all the cop and ambulence cars, idk why people camp there
– There is always someone in the basement of one the houses where a gun locker is at
– There will always be someone on the roof
– There will always be a duo or group of survivors helping each other
– Make sure to download skins and what not off the workshop because some can give you an advantage in this game mode like the BLR micro red dot sight
** list to be updated**
