General ZPS Stuff

Zombie Panic! Source is a HL2 Mod which first released in 2007. In order to play ZPS you need Steam and also a Source Game (CSS, HL2DM, GMod). You should have atleast 20-40 GB Space (for the gameitself and costum maps, sounds and models) ZPS is an online Multiplayer game where you can choose between playing as Survivor or play as zombie and kill the survivors. Both teams (zombies and survivors) are completly controlled by other players.
On each round start you can chose your team. (Even you select Human you can still be spawned as zombie unless someone else volunteerd.)

Gamemodes (what means ZPS, ZPH, ZPO, ZPA)

Before starting with Guns and stuff its important to know whats the difference between zps_ zph_ zpo_ and zpa_ maps (some maps have zp_ which are same as zps_ maps).

zps_ / zp_
Maps starting with zps_ (or zp_) are survival maps. You can choose between surviving for ~ 15 min. or trying to kill all zombies. Zombies have limited lifes and if run out of lifes survivors will win. Guns are more rare on these maps than compared to objective maps.

zph_
ZPH are hardcore maps where survivors have to survive 5 min against zombies similar to zps maps zombies have limited lifes but your guns do 50% less damage(except for melee weapons). Infection chance for all Carriers ( white zombie more to him later) is at roughly 70% (default infection on non hardcore maps is 10%) this cannot be controlled by any server admin. Each infected will turn into a carrier unless killed before the infection completes. In this mode there are several more starting zombies and there can be up to 5 starting carriers.

zpo_
ZPO maps are Objective maps where humans have to do different objectives to win. Zombies have unlimited lifes so you will not win after killing 20 or more zombies. Some objectives are easy to find and some are harder like finding keys. Objective Maps have a timelimit of 45 minutes.

zpa_
ZPA maps are Team Arena maps where Humans and zombies have to control 1 main checkpoint to win. Zombies have ~5 min to takeover the checkpoint. After the 5 min teams will be swapped. In this mode there will be no carrier on round start. Survivors and Zombies can complete side objectives to gain access to Weapons and Ammo aswell as access to Carriers. This is the only map mode where survivors can respawn and not change to zombies after being killed. Also in this mode Infection is replaced with bleeding so you will take damage over time and might even die from it.

Survivor Team

Survivors are the few remaining humans who are trying to survive against the horde of undead.
Survivors can pickup guns, melee weapons and do objectives. Survivors speed is depending on the amount of ammo and guns they have. Also stamina affects your movement speed. More guns and less stamina = less speed. In order to Survive you must work as team a zombie can easily kill 1 or 2 survivors. So stick to the other Survivors

Some stats about the survivor:

  • 100HP on Spawn
  • Spawns with a random melee (not all melees) and a Pistol with 10 Additional bullets
  • Survivors speed is at roughly 150 ingame units (Not Hammer Editor units) without any guns / ammo and with a full stamina bar. (200 with panic and 95 when crouched) *
  • Survivors have a 5 Slot inventory (Big guns like a rifle or winchester take 2 slots. Small guns like a pistol take only 1 slot)
  • Survivors can pickup armour (max 100 armour) reducing damage from zombies. Armour does not prevent infection.
  • Survivors can pickup healthkits and pills to heal themself. Medkits and Pills wont cure Infection.
  • Only have 1 Life (except for zpa_ mode)
  • Speed is reduced when picking up ammo / guns
  • Their Stamina bar runs out when constantly running press Walk Key (Default: ALT) to walk or stop running for some time to regain stamina and speed.
  • Survivors can use the Panic Key (Default: P) to drop all ammo and all weapons (except for the current held weapon) and give you a short speed boost. However after some time your speed boost is removed and your Stamina will decrease drastically. Panic has a cooldown of 2 minutes.

Zombie Team

Zombies are the ones who have been infected and are hungry. Zombies compared to survivors are not affected by Stamina or weapons / ammo. They always run at all times. Zombies cannot pickup guns / ammo and cannot do objectives. Zombies work best in big groups dont try to run at 5 survivors alone instead group up and overwhelm them.

Average Zombie

  • 200HP on Spawn
  • Roughly 150 Speed (190 with lunge and 70 when crouched) *
  • Regenerates Health over time after not being damaged
  • Take non or very less fall damage
  • Zombies can stay forever under water without drowning
  • Zombies run constantly at full speed
  • Zombies can be very strong when in big groups
  • When hit 3 times a survior with full lunge bar can go in berserk mode for 10 seconds allow faster movement and faster attack speed.
    Note: Berserk (especially as carrier) is faster than a human with full stamina bar no weapons and using panic)
  • Can use Lunge Key (Default: LSHIFT) to sprint a short distance

Carrier (“main zombie”)

  • 250HP on Spawn
  • Faster than the average Zombie (160 ~) (190 lunge and 70 when crouched) *
  • 10 % Infection chance ( 70% on hardcore maps)
  • Deals 35 Dmg Per hit
  • Is white aka Whity (looks different than the average zombie)
  • Should be focused first
  • Has the ability to use Roar (Zombies see where the carrier is and zombies spawn close to active zombie spawns)

Infection

Infection is part of the game and infection can only be spread if the carrier hits survivors. The default infection chance is 10% (~ 70% for Hardcore maps) there are 3 phases of the infection. infection time is roughly 1 minute.

1st Phase infection:
You have been infected but only zombies know it. Zombies will see you glowing green.

2nd Phase:
Your survivor breaths once hard and you hear your heart beats for a short time. Your HP icon will be now a bio hazard icon. You are now not able to talk pickup ammo / guns, toggle your flashlight drop guns nor you are able to panic.

3rd Phase:
Last seconds before you turn you hear your heart beating faster and faster until you finally turn and will drop all guns and ammo. Unless you spawn as Carrier you will spawn with 200 HP and you are now one of the undead. Keep in mind that in that time, the lasts seconds, before you turn your teammates can kill you.
