The Full Philosophy of The Gentleman for Monaco

The Full Philosophy of The Gentleman

Overview

In this lovely guide, we will discuss the essence of The Gentleman.Who is he? What is he? How do we become one? And what is the meaning of all this? This is the full guide for the least gentle.Stay tuned.

Introducing The Gentleman

The Gentleman. A manipulative creature. A work of art. And most of all – gentle.
The Gentleman is first introduced to us in Mansion Moucharder. He is the second unlockable character, and after unlocked, he can be used as a character in almost every level.

So, Why The Gentleman?

I have recently discovered myself as more of a stealth oriented fella. The Gentleman is just like this.
He is consistent. He is precise. He is sneaky. He knows his routes. He is evil. He WILL take advantage of you. He will do his best to trick you. The Gentleman is all about being slow and precise. He serves many goals. The Gentleman can be the sneaky fox, wandering through the woods, and collecting the bread crumbs. Just as well, he may also be the static character, secretly patrolling through the empty rooms, being the protecting hands of the team. The Gentleman’s greatest advantage, is of course his disguise. With his disguise, The Gentleman is more powerful than ever – he may do as he wish – and do it perfectly. Stealth is the name.

Group Oriented Strategies

The Gentleman, as sneaky (and handsome) as he might be, still needs his assistants, to connect the knots. The Gentleman may take approach the situation with two ways: being the supporter, and the supported. I will discuss both way of approaching a situation.

The Supported: this way takes most advantage of the Gentleman’s capability. In this tactic, you will be using your suit to trick the entire building. The suit is the most important thing The Gentleman has. It resembles him. It makes him powerful.
The suit will charge while you are NOT suspected. It will not recharge if anyone can see you – be it a cop, or even a dog. The best tactic to recharge your suit is to hide in a bush, or hide in a safe spot – safe spots are spots where your enemie’s line of sight breaks. You can know you are in a safe spot when your spot is shadowed, or when you are hiding behind something this is 180 degrees proportional to the enemy. The following pictures marks the best spots (green) and the worst spots (red):
Remember: shadow = good, light = evil and wants to eat your babies.

Q: I keep getting spotted as my disguise is gets blown very fast. Why is that?
Be surprised, but I only recently discovered the beauty of the strafe button. Shift all the way when you are playing as The Gentleman. Take it slowly, step by step. Try to avoid direct contact with enemies. Do not “step” on enemies or lasers. Keep a safe distance of a few MMs while taking coins that are stuck between lasers and foes.

Q: I got spotted, what do?
Well, this will happen quite often, especially when you’re just starting out as The Gentleman.
When getting spotted, the best thing to do is first to make sure the enemy is only suspecting you and not ALERTED about you. Try strafing through the room to the closest bush that is NOT currently viewed by your foe. If your enemies are alerted about you, blowing your disguise won’t matter much, as you’re already on the hunt. if you still need something in the room, try the following technique, which I like to call The Celtic Knot:
“Spirals, step patterns, and key patterns are dominant motifs in Celtic art before the Christian influence on the Celts, which began around 450 A.D. These designs found their way into early Christian manuscripts and artwork with the addition of depictions from life, such as animals, plants and even humans. “
You will gap your enemies and flank them from behind while they seek for you following the un-relevant trails you’ve left behind you.

The Supporting: With this strategy, you will support your entire team by simply staying at the same spot, allowing everyone on your team to move forward (weather It’s cleaning out, moving to another level, or even reviving a teammate stuck under heavy security.
While playing, one might find a light bulb sign in a little room. “What is it?”, one might ask.
Well, the answer is: the main power switch in the level. It will turn all the power off for a few seconds. Easy as it might sound, it does require teamwork, and you will have to sync your moves with your team. You don’t want those lasers pumping out of nowhere while your team is in potential death trap. Approach the light bulb slowly (using the strafing technique we talked about earlier). There might be a foe. But since you are going to be passive, your disguise will be much more reliable.

Pros & Cons

The Gentleman, awesome as he is, still has his flaws.
-For example, when you’re in a room full of foes, whose eyesights you can’t avoid, your disguise will be blown. As a Gentleman, you have nothing neat up your sleeves (disguise sleeves HUEHUEHUE). You have to make a run for it, or else you are dog food (wearing an expensive suit).

-However, The Gentleman of course has his other abilities:
You can go through secret passages much faster,
and, you can also enter escape vehicles faster. So in levels where your team is stuck because the vehicle is surrounded, GRAB DEM BANDAGES, AND RUN FOR THE RIDE!

Equipment

While patrolling Monaco, you will encounter quite a few special items and weaponry you may use.
The Gentleman’s approach is Stealth of course, means his setup should be different than others’.

My personal favorites are:

-Smoke Bombs: disguise blown? No problem! With a smoke bomb you may now haze your trails while escaping. Good for fast paced action or when reviving teammates with suspecting guards patrolling the site.

-EMPs (Power offs): These babies will supply (or should I say: unssuply?) a power failure for a few seconds. Act like the Bulb Switch. Very handy in nasty situations involving lasers and turrets.

-Trauma Kits (Bandages): These will patch you up well when injured by guards or whatever. As well, these can be used on downed teammates for an instant revive.

EDIT: please note that GUNS ARE LOUD, and REQUIRE an excessive use of CAPITAL LETTERS (uh not a reference at all *mhm*). Take one if there’s nothing else in the level for emergency use ONLY, they will alert your foes and WILL break your disguise. Avoid weapons, except for The Tranquilizer which is actually supressed (crossbow).

Be Creative!

Monaco endorses creativity. Creativity rewards.
Use your own mind, create your tactics, and apply them!
Good Luck!

Credits go to me for typing, the Wikia for supplying some cool equipment pics, another guide for Gentleman abilities info, anonymous uploaders who were kind enough to share their pictures for me to pick from Google, and edit in Paint, and of course, the developers of Monaco, for creating such a wonderful game with such a kickass character. Peace.
