Wreckfest Mod Servers – How To Enable Mods in Server

Overview

In this guide I’ll try to help you to host dedicated mod server.Guide focus only to server configuration and it will not tell you how to host server from scratch.

Introduction

In this guide I try to help you to host dedicated mod servers.
The guide focus only to server configuration and it will not tell you how to host server from scratch.

I spent lots of time to host mod server, and I failed because one reason: server can’t read /workshop folder. So, to prevent your problems I created this guide… I hope it helps you somehow.

What you need to do:
1. Select mod(s) (Workshop, your own mods, mods downloaded from another source)
2. Move mod(s) files from Workshop folder (if you want to use Steam Workshop mods)
3. Edit server_config.cfg file (mods=mod_id, mod_id)
4. Run the server

1. Select Mods

Select mods what you want to use. For this we use Wreckfest’s Steam Workshop, which includes many great mods. You can also use your own mods or other mods which are not uploaded to Steam Workshop. Workshop mods are easier to host because players could install and enable these mods easily from Steam Workshop.

What you need to do is subscribe these mods on your server pc.

Also, remember to check these workshop ID’s and save somewhere for later use. The easiest way to get these IDs are from workshop url address.
For example, The Very End’s The Very TrackPack ID is 764432700: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=764432700

After you’ve picked and downloaded (subscribed) your favourite mods, lets move on.

2. Move Mod Files From Workshop Folder

Steam downloads Workshop mods into content folder. You can find it from your Steam folder:

../steam/steamapps/workshop/content

If you installed Steam to default location, you’ll find this folder here:

C:/Program Files/Steam/steamapps/workshop/content

Open Wreckfest’s Workshop folder numbered “228380”. Just FYI, that’s Wreckfest AppID…

Now we need these Workshop IDs.

Copy these mod folders, which ID you saved from previous step.
For example, if we want to copy The Very TrackPack’s folder we search folder numbered “764432700“.

Copy it into “mods” folder, which is in Wreckfest folder. Wreckfest is installed by default into your Steam folder

Steam/steamapps/common/Bugbear Entertainment/

Open mods folder and paste copied folder there.
Now this example folder should be in folder mods:

../Bugbear Entertainment/mods/764432700

If you want to install more mods, do the same with other mods.

Next we will edit server config file.

3. Edit server_config.cfg File

Always edit server_config.cfg file, not initial_server_config.cfg file!
Initial server config file is default file, which Steam could set default when updating Wreckfest

Depending what mods you want to install, we need to edit row “mods” in config file.
Config file is located in Bugbear Entertainment -folder.

# Mod folder names in a comma separated list #mods=example,my_mod

Uncomment “#mods=” so server will read it. Edit the row to “mods=…” without # symbol.

Now we need again Workshop IDs. Write your mod ID(s), which you copied and pasted into ../mods/.. folder to the same row.

If you have multiple mods, separate these with a comma (,)

For example, the rows could look like:

# Mod folder names in a comma separated list mods=764432700,123456,mymod

(just FYI) HOLD UP! Why there reads “mymod” ?
You can use your mods or/and other mods which aren’t copied from Workshop folder.
Also, you can edit copied folder(s)’ names to another. For example, edit mod folder from numbers “764432700” to “TheVeryTrackPack”.
If you do so, you need to add the same name into server config file!

If you have track mods, and you want to add tracks into eventloop, you need to check these tracks’ ID from mod folders.

These names can be easily found from <mod_folder>/data/property/event/ folders.

For example, if we want to use track “Green Lake Valley”, the ID would be “rallycross_greenlakevalley”.
(the file, where I found out the ID, was located in folder “764432700/data/property/event/rallycross/”)

Ok, config file should be o-kay now.
Now we need to run server and cross fingers everything works!

4. Run the Server

Yes, that’s all! Run your server with start_server.bat file.

You can check your changes on server window with command ?
In my case, it shows I’ve added one mod on server.

Also in-game server list it should show your server has mod(s) enabled.
(FYI: It could show mods are enabled even you haven’t copied mod files into mods/ folder. It shows number of mods in server list only because the count of mods listed in server config file.)

I hope you got your server up.
For me it took too much time when I tried to do it without any help or tutorials.
