How to get the BEST weapon in the game.

Overview

Damage, durability, and the fact you can obtain it so close to the start of the game is why the small chainsaw will soon become your new best friend. I’m also going to show you how to maximize its potential, and overall make this your go-to weapon of choice.

Where to find it

So, on September 19th at 9pm otis will call you and tell you about the scoop called “Out of Control”
Make your way to wonderland plaza, which is accessed via the food court early on in the game.

Following the quest marker to the 2nd floor, a cutscene will trigger, this is the bossfight for Adam.

Adam tips

Some weapons i would recomend bringing would be a handgun or two, hunting knives and some nectar for healing when needed. So, some basic pointers for anyone who has never played dead rising before, this fight can either be the easiest fight or the absolute hardest depending on how ready and well equipped you are. Trying to hit him with melee based attacks will result in him blocking with his chainsaws, usually destroying whatever you were attacking him with at the time so its pretty unwise to try and hit him without stunning him first. Try to stay a safe distance away from him, while doing so it will sometimes proc his knife throwing attack so be sure to steer clear of being hit. The prime moment to watch for when you are distanced away from him is when he starts to blow up a red balloon, quickly equip a handgun and shoot it and while he is stunned, slash away with your knife, but be sure to get away from him or you risk being hit. Repeat that a few times and you should get him.

Enjoying the fruits of labor

Go ahead and pick up your brand new chainsaw. And make sure to do this before shutting down the space ride, because doing so will trigger a small cutscene that will respawn the small chainsaw, giving you 2 of the beautful things. Leaving the area and coming back during any point in the standard 72 hour mode (does not spawn in overtime mode) after defeating adam will cause the small chainsaw to respawn, so no worries if you lose it.

After stopping the space ride and collecting both chainsaws talk to the man who was stuck on the ride, he is by far one of the most helpful survivors this early on and can make later game progress SO much easier.

What does greg do exactly?
Upon leading him to the womans restroom he gives you the ability to quickly move from wonderland plaza to paradise plaza and vice versa INSTANTLY. This is incredibly useful for escorting survivors later on down the line.
This ability can ONLY be used if you have saved greg after fighting adam, so best to do it as soon as possible.
(NOTE: the shortcut does not carry over into new playthroughs)

Maximize its FULL potential.

So, the base amount of durability the small chainsaw is 80 hits. But, what if i told you that we can increase it all the way up to 2160 total durability?
Heres how:
In paradise plaza head on over to Bachmans Bookporium and grab the engineering and entertainment books. With both in your inventory you should notice the 2 pink circles on your small chainsaws in your inventory, thats showing that its under the buffs of the books you just picked up.
Now, to grab the last one, use the handy little shortcut you just unlocked to head back to wonderland plaza.
Go up to the second floor and go to the back of Sir Book-a-lot, there you are going to find the criminal biography book

• The small chainsaws durability is tripled, INDIVIDUALLY by all three of these books, removing them from your inventory will nullify any added bonuses you originally had.
  And the bonuses are as followed:

  One Book / x3 durability / 240 hits
  Two Books / x3 durability / 720 hits
  Three Books / x3 durability / 2160 hits
