Overview
I noticed, that many people have technical or install problems with Silverfall and Silverfall: Earth awakening.The game is old now, it’s released back in 2007 and 2008 for Windows XP/Vista.If you want to play these two games on modern systems, this Guide is for you! (For Win 7, Win 8, and probably work on Win 10 too!)
First you must choose, which version of the game want to play
Silverfall Demo
This is only a demo version of the game, you can download for free from Steam, but it’s only work on Windows XP!
Silverfall
This is the Silverfall main campaign only. You can play it even in 1920×1080 without problems, but without the Expansion enhancements (With two less playable races, no free camera, no ultimate skills, or new UI…)
Silverfall: Earth Awakening
This is only the Expansion pack, without the main game (yes, it works as Standalone too)!
You got only the expansion campaign, and you must create a level 45 hero to start.
You can’t play the game on higher resolutions than 1366×768, because you get unreadable tiny captions, you can’t even read the conversations or the item’s names!
Silverfall + Silverfall Earth Awakening
(Known as Silverfall Gold or Silverfall Complete)
This is the real full game: the main game with the expansion enhancements + the expansion itself!
But you can’t play the game on higher resolutions than 1366×768, because you get unreadable tiny captions, you can’t even read the conversations or the item’s names!
Just for information:
The expansion gives to the main game:
– 2 new playable races (Dwarf and Lizardman)
– Ultimate skills
– New UI
– Free camera mode
– You can control the hero with keyboard
– Crafting
I recommend to play with Silverfall Gold for the full game experience!
Silverfall Demo
First of all, the free downloadable demo on Steam:
Don’t download the demo, it will never work on modern systems! The Demo has Tages Setup DRM, which won’t work on Windows 7 or above, only on Windows XP! You can’t skip the DRM, it’s in the .exe file, sadly.
But the full game comes without that DRM, it will run without any problem!
Silverfall
There isn’t much problem, if you want to play only with the main game.
But first, if you have Silverfall: Earth Awakening installed already, please uninstall it first, because the Main game files will overwrite the Expansion’s files, and you will get strange things in the game! (Unreadable words, Giant Spheres, Blurry Screens…)
Here are the steps:
1. Install PhysX legacy software!

2. Install Silverfall
And you are done with installing the main game!
If the game won’t run, or you get low FPS and stuttering:
– Set the “Silverfall.exe” to Windows 7, or Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode!
(Steam–>steamapps–>common–>Silverfall–>silverfall.exe, right click on it, Preferences, Compatibility tab)
Silverfall: Earth Awakening
Earth Awakening can work as a Standalone expansion!
If you want to play that way:
1. Install PhysX legacy software!

2. Install Silverfall: Earth Awakening (If you have Silverfall already installed, please uninstall it first!)
And it’s done, you can play the game already!
Note, that you can play the expansion only with lvl 45 heroes!
– If you get low FPS and stuttering, try to set the .exe to Windows XP SP2 or Windows 7 compatibility!
– For Earth Awakening, the best max resolution is 1366×768, to see the UI captions,
the dialogues and conversations (above that resolution you get unreadable tiny Fonts).
Silverfall + Silverfall: Earth Awakening (Silverfall Gold)
Okay, the expansion has always have installation problems!
Even on it’s release, the retail version has issues. If you wanted to play both games together, then you must files copy and replace from the DVD….
And Steam version have install problems too!
But with the following steps you can easily fix them! You must do it in this order, if you want to play the full game with all enhancements and expansion!
1. Install PhysX legacy software!

2. Install Silverfall (If you have Earth Awakening installed, please uninstall it first, because the Main game’s files overwrite the expansion files!)
3. Install Silverfall: Earth Awakening
4. From the Library section, right-click on Silverfall: Earth Awakening and select
Properties from the menu. Then select the Local files tab and click the “Verify integrity of
game cache…” button.
5. After the verification process Steam will magically download all the missing files for Earth Awakening!
6. Never Start the game from Silverfall, always only from Silverfall: Earth Awakening!
Now you can play the Original Campaign with the Expansion enhancements, and you can export your hero to Earth Awakening, after finishing the Silverfall Campaign!
– If you get low FPS and stuttering, try to set the .exe to Windows XP SP2, or Windows 7 compatibility!
– For Earth Awakening, the best max resolution is 1366×768, to see the captions and
dialogues, UI, etc. (Above that resolution you get unreadable tiny Fonts).
Silverfall: Complete (GOG version)
It’s not the place for advertising, but Silverfall released on GOG too, as: Silverfall: Complete.
In this version you can’t separate the base game and the expansion, but this version installs the game at least properly, and installs the right version of PhysX legacy too!
If the game just won’t properly run for you on Steam, then I recommend to try that version!
Bigger Fonts + Troubleshooting
Bigger Fonts:
If you want bigger fonts in the game, you can do it, but it’s limited to the conversations with the NPC’s and the teammates! (The other UI related font-size changes causes UI glitches, so I can’t recommend!)
– Go to Steam–>steamapps–>common–>Silverfall–>Data–>Overlay–>Game–>Panel_Dialog
– Open this Panel_Dialog file with Notepad
– Everywhere, where you find “Times”, “Times14”, “Times18”, or “Times18b”, rewrite to “Times27”!
– Save the file and close
You have now much easily readable conversations!

Silverfall failed to find Steam
Go to your Steam folder, and copy “Steam.dll” to the game’s folder.
(Steam–>steamapps–>common–>Silverfall)
Stuttering
The game maybe stutters because it runs with too high FPS. Use the FPS limiter in nvidia control panel, or, if you don’t have Geforce videocard, then try with msi afterburner!
Fixing Config program to show correctly
If you are having a problem with the configuration program not scaling and thus, preventing save changes. Here is the fix:
1. Go into DataConfig
2. Open Config.ini
3. Change Width and Height to 800 and 600,
4. Save file
That all. Is should work fine after that.
