How to Play “Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon” – Basics

Overview

A quick guide for how to play the game, as far as what missions to do, what collectibles to find, etc. Not too in-depth.

Step 1 – Take the Outposts

I recommend that, after the first mission, you begin to take control of the outposts all over the map. There are 13 in all, but they shouldn’t take too long to capture (maybe a few playsessions). Remember, stealth is important. Although charging in to simply gun everyone down is fun, it’s risky and, when you’re really early in the levelup system, can be deadly (one of the main perks of leveling up is an increased health bar, but early on, you are dangerously weak). The best method to take the bases is to, one by one, take people down with takedowns until you reach the shield shutdown button, which glows bright green and can be easily seen (and is usually high up and in plain sight), which, upon shutdown, calls a dragon to come in and attack. Once the dragon has killed all of the Omega Force, throw Cyberhearts outside of the gates to get the dragon out. Then the shields will restart, and the outpost is yours.

Step 2 – Do the Mini-Missions

After you’ve unlocked an outpost, go immediately to the Mission Cabinet (which appears on your HUD as a crosshair symbol or skull and crossbones). Each mission gives you money, experience, and (especially important) weapon attachments. They’re not too hard; most involve killing specific animals, or taking down an elite soldier, or rescuing a scientist (which demands stealth, if you don’t want the hostage to be killed). Having the attachments early on make missions easier, and are important in making a later mission really a lot easier than it actually is (I won’t tell you what that mission is, for spoiler purposes).

Step 3 – Find the Collectibles

After you’ve taken all of the outposts in a region, you unlock the “Map Scan” tool, found in the “Consumables” tab of the store. There is one for each region (Northwest, Northeast, Southwest…etc. They’re really cheap (only $500, in in-game money), so they’re easy to buy. Then, simply find them. You’ll get a few attachments by finding them; there are certain waypoints, such as finding 6/12 of something, where you get an attachment, and then there’s the attachment when you find them all. In total, you’ll get a whole bunch of attachments with which to complete missions.

Overview

So, to sum this guide up, here are the things you should do BEFORE you begin to play the main missions:

1. Take the outposts.
2. At each outpost, complete all of the mini-missions.
3. Buy the map scans, and find all of the collectibles.

At this point, you have enought weapon attachments, money to buy ammo, and XP (to level up your health, repair speed, and to give you cool abilities like takedown, Heavy takedown, and Gunslinger) to make you an unstoppable killing machine.

Good Luck!
