Overview
Dual boot SteamOS 1.0 / Alchemist and SteamOS 2.0 Brewmaster.
How-To
This is fairly easy, but is a nice way to keep tabs on Brewmaster, and still keep your Alchemist / SteamOS 1.0 install. Great for tinkerers and the adventurous. Keep in mind Brewmaster is still fast moving and is not quite ready.
1. Install (if you haven’t already) SteamOS 1.0 / Alchemist
2. Shutdown
3. Unplug HDD1
4. Plug in HDD2
5. Install SteamOS 2.0 / Brewmaster
6. Shutdown
7. Plug in both HDD1 and HDD2
If you kept the same SATA cables (SATA1 for HDD1, SATA2 for HDD2), and reconnect things back up in the same fashion, you should reboot into your first install. Enter the following commands (assumes pw is set for ‘desktop’ user)
sudo update-grub
sudo reboot
When you reboot you’ll see an entry for SteamOS and SteamOS 1.0 or 2.0. You’re primary SteamOS partition should be the “SteamOS” label. I installed Brewmaster first, then Alchemist, so I figured the 2nd install can* be either 1.0 or 2.0.
If you install Brewmaster as your primary install, you will gain use of grub2, if that matters at all to you.
