Overview
This guide will be showing you how to fix the enemy AI and make it a bit easier in fighting them.
Introduction
Hey everyone, so not many of you know this but if you play Black Mesa for a decently long enough time you will notice that some of the enemies are ridiculously unbalanced, they assault your position in packs, they shoot you sometimes before you can even see them, they shoot you even behind cover, they have eyes on the back of their heads because you make a little bit of a step and they instantly kill you, they even do so much damage that you lose like 90% of your armor and 50% of your health in a single battle, in my opinion this ruins the gameplay and ruins the fun.
Before people say to me that “Uhhh shut up m8, this is a hardcore first person shooter that is meant to be a challenge.” Now I understand that this might be a “Hardcore First Person Shooter” but I don’t agree on how unbalanced the enemy AI is.
So I decided to show to some of you people how to change the game INI file settings to make this a much more enjoyable game. (Do note that this won’t make enemies not come to you any longer, they still will do it but they won’t do overkill damage to you.)
INI File Changes
Go to the following place.
C:Program Files (x86):Steam:steamapps:common:Black Mesa:bms:cfg:
This is the text file you are looking for. Skill.INI file.It should be at the bottom and it should look like this.
Now find the following lines, here is a shortcut you can enter to find them easier.
The shortcuts go like this.
ai_reaction_delay
ai_reaction_delay
Copy and paste these onto the whole 2 lines.
ai_reaction_delay_alert “0.3”
ai_reaction_delay_idle “0.75”
This is what you are looking for if you cant find it.
And for the final lines, find the following and change it to how i did.
sk_npc_head “3”
sk_npc_arm “1”
sk_npc_leg “1”
This is how it looks like if you have problems finding it.
The first one will affect all enemies, not just marines. The difference is minute, but it gives you a little more time to duck behind cover before you’re dead. You can tweak the numbers if you want. The base values are apparently 0.1 and 0.3, respectively.
As for the second one it will remove the penalties for wing shots and restore the HL1-style triple headshot damage.
Final Words
After this you will have a more enjoyable experience and you won’t be getting frustrated when you die from aimbot AI.
I hope this helped to make your experience a lot more enjoyable.
