The Editor is Broken!

Overview

I have no idea what I’m doing, and have never written a guide before!I am writing this guide in an effort to help new Vessel builders with the madness of the editor.because the editor is manufactured suffering.

Intro:

This is not a guide to help you with building subs. You should figure that out by taking apart
smarter peoples stuff without instructions like a real man. It’s like taking apart the Toaster
and putting it back together. Which is not that hard. ♥♥♥♥ the VCR though. It don’t go back together.

This guide was made with the sole intent allowing people not to lose as much of their ♥♥♥♥ as they
normally would. So I will go into detail about how you should protect yourself from the real horror
of this game. The editor.

if you want a basic guide to the functions of the editor use this guide.

if you want an in depth guide about the advanced functions of the editor use this guide.

Backups:

You should have two folders ready and waiting for you in a common place.

First Folder Should be a shortcut to the subs folder in the main games directory.

The Second folder should be an actual back up folder that is a dump for your files.
You can even have multiple folders in this second back up folder such as “Old Subs” and “New Subs”

at the end of a hard session of editing or even during an editing session you should copy and paste the .subs files (yes, all of them, you wouldn’t want to lose them.) from the “shortcut folder” to the “second backup folder” be mindful if you have the extra folders I mentioned above you’re gonna want to move .subs files from New subs to old subs when you are backing up a new set of subs from your last editing session. Additionally if you are testing subs with friends you should use them as a back up as well just in case of a massive failure on the games part or your part. Considering how crazy the editor can get.

Quirks:

The editor is as I said manufactured suffering. Meaning I whole heartedly believe with every fiber of
my being that the devs made the editor the way it is to dab on autists and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ crazy enough to use the editor. (Just kidding <3 you devs, don’t feed me to the reclamators to make ration bars.)

Be mindful of certain things. like when you upload a sub to the workshop through in game tools
it removes it from your subs folder in the main game directory and and puts it in the mods folder
in the main game directory.

A major problem is the crashing. I’ve encountered this most when removing wires from equipment
or removing items from containers or placing items inside of items i.e. filling a shotgun with ammo in a secure container. or filling tool boxes inside of containers.

Another fun Quirk of the editor is subs duplicating in the editor’s saves list. do not delete duplicated
subs in the sub list unless you actively have the duplicated sub loaded in the editor. because the
duplicated sub is a ghost sub and will delete the both subs in the list. this bug is the sole reason I made this guide. as I lost a sub to this. and what makes it worst is I deleted it without knowing. Based
and Tromapilled.

Smaller stuff you should know is that if you want to test subs in single player right off the bat
you need to save the sub with a price of 5999 marks or less. additionally you should always place boxes, items, raptor eggs, etc. etc. last! the editor has a nasty habit of deleting stuff like that inbetween play tests within the editor.

Useful Utilities:

Captain Eric’s MultiCam System (MCS) Mk.I

Py20m4n’s Item assembly for submarine

BogdansWOOP’s Smart Systems Pack

Onekun’s Auto Ballast Hatch:

Rock’s Assembly Pack

Crusade’s Europa Clock

Working Joe’s Alarm lights assembly collection

Make sure you remember about the Crashes I mentioned in the Quirks section. alot of these systems are pre-wired and need said wires removed and rewired and that can cause crashes. Lovely, But still I highly recommend these Utilities as they cut down the time it takes to make a nice sub tremendously. in addition having a bunch of these systems together can break Vessels after long play times especially those with lots of memory component’s like Europa Clock. also! you should make your own assemblies! it makes everything easier. remember you should back up these too in the same manner outlined in the back ups section, lest you want them scattered to the wind like JFK’s brains.

Editor’s Note:

I will update this guide as I find more egregious travesties apon editors. and add more helpful
utilities as I come across them.
