Tips and Tricks For New Players for Barotrauma

Tips and Tricks For New Players

Overview

here a guide to give some advice to some new players and some little tips i wish i knew when i was starting. i hope it helps someone out and is maybe a bit entertaining

Overview

This guide is subject to change as new things are learned about the game and new tips or tricks appear. at the time of starting this ive 230 hours in game so i hope i can help at least a few people out. ENJOY!

starter advice

Okay so in this section I am planning on listing off a few things that may be obvious to older players and maybe even some new players but its still some good things to list.

New? Tutorials!

Alright lads and lasses this one goes in because i am guilty of it too!

PLAY THE TUTORIAL MISSIONS!

They are there for a reason! Barotrauma isnt really a game you can just “jump into” in my opinion. it took a bit to learn the controls and to get comfortable with them, and no matter what you play (single or multi- play) learning the ropes is important to keeping the submarine swimming, your crew breathing, and monsters OUTSIDE of the sub. so please play the training missions! I promise its worth it!.

Read everything!

Here is another one I am guilty of.

READ EVERYTHING!

have a drug and dont know what it does? READ THE DESCRIPTION! it will normally hint at what it does. Unknown injury? That has a description too! gun needs special ammo? Descriptions normally tell you! Have an event pop up in a station? FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, READ IT!
I learned this lesson the hard way by skip clicking through an event in a station and having 3 mudraptors spawn inside the room I was in…… READ MATES!
Trust me its worth the few extra seconds I promise!

Dont know? Test!

If you dont know how something works or what something is or does, test it out in single player!

Nothing annoys an online crew more then someone who cant do their job (trust me I was the annoying guy for a while) honestly if you skipped the trainer missions (shame on you) then at the very least test things out in single play or find a more relaxed Multi-play crew who is willing to help you learn the ropes! and remember to READ and never be afraid to ask for help or advice!

“Emergency pack”

if youre playing on single player or if your captain allows it in multi-play, its a great idea to have a small stash of basic supplies on you at all times, just incase things go sideways.

my list is pretty basic but ill list it for a starter point and pretty useful in single-play
1 oxygen mask
1 extra oxygen tank
1 bandage
1 extra battery
1 welding tool
1 flashlight
1 morphine
1 extra mag (for whatever weapon you have)

obviously the list can be changed according to your changing needs or play style

now i can hear some of the older players going “no dont take morphine from the medics”

the morphine is for the medics …. if you get incap’ed then the medic doesnt need to worry what meds he has he knows you already have basic supplies on you at all times which speeds him up allowing him to help more people faster

NEVER! use the morphine on yourself if your med skill is to low because you will use both hits and overdose yourself

Mission selection

This one is a big one for single-play games and new captains in multi-play…. Know what youre crew is capable of dealing with and what your sub can handle….. dont expect to be able to start a new game and instantly take on the biggest and baddest things in the sea with the 3 starting guys… while it is possible its difficult ….. know what you can do with the crew and sub you start with and weigh the reward against the risk

HAVE FUN!

Dont forget, no matter what it is just a game…. the goal is to have fun! so weather youre in single-play or multi-play have fun with it! enjoy yourself and safe travels fellow divers!

Closing

i hope this gave you guys some decent advice even it was all basically common sence and i hope you enjoyed!

if there is anything you feel i should add to the guide feel free to put it in the comments and i will add it the moment i get a chance! Have a great day everyone!
