Overview
Chex Cereal + Doom, Quake, Half-Life 1 (GoldSource) = free promo tools introduced in the late 90s that are still being used today and we are only now beginning to get good at it. This guide focuses on best practices for creating story based content as a different path to promoting a thing instead of ad based methods.
Chex, Check [x]
Utilizing the Doom engine back in 1996 Chex cereal was doing what businesses only now are warming up to. Promotional gaming. For more info on Chex Quest see the ref. link at the bottom.
The rest of this guide will not focus on the merits of promo gaming, nor will we go into Doom engine. This guide is for workshop biz looking for a way forward. To do this we will focus on Half-Life 1 engine (goldsrc) from Valve under their license and also have Quake under *GPL license
[needs work]
and how we can offer a practical road to freedom in promo content thanks to Valve and Quake (newer Doom engine) and then how we can modernize it for a 2020 worldview using Unity and Tiny Mode. All of this while keeping a free option with Quake files that work in HL1. A guest author @nschurdell will carry the brunt of the work. So please welcome “enter cool nickname”
More GPL (not Steam compatible) links in comments. For true freedom path.

*We do not make recommendations about what software or licenses to avoid. We can only do and share what makes sense to us. For debate about licenses and freedom see dev log on May 10th for more info about our present position on this subject. We will not get into trolling about this stuff. 😉
