Overview
Covers abilities, basic combat, weapons, and armor for every recruitable companion and Brad.
LEADER OF THE PACK
This guide is for weapons, armors, buffs/debuffs, and abilities. It doesn’t cover recruitment, where to buy items, or how to fight specific mobs.
Update: Added missing shawl to armor list. Fixed minor formatting typos in tables.
I’m not here to tell you that.
Blank descriptions are vanilla single target physical attacks.
No mention of chance in description means guaranteed barring mob immunity.
Assume all abilities are single target unless otherwise mentioned.
“Improved” skills (ex. bore vs really bore) normally have a higher success percentage.
I’ve included these to establish succinctly how the character operates. Please take my overviews with a grain of salt. All companions are beautiful in their own way. I do try to stick only to facts but do not have the time to use characters enough to be absolutely sure.
HEAD: Hat, bald, masks.
CHEST: Ponchos, shirts, pads, shawls, bare chest.
Some companions can use shields, all companions can use accessories.
In some circumstances, an item cannot be removed and thus no upgrades exist (ex: Tiger Man’s tiger head, Garth’s pencil.)
TIP: When deciding not to use a companion, strip them of their gear. Because accessories and shields cannot be bought, you can repurpose the gear for people you’re actually using and sell off anything else.
Wristbands, guns, bows, boomerangs, clubs, spears, whips, automatic weapons, knives, katanas. Novelty one of a kind weapons are: guitar, playing cards, pencil, duffel bag.
[BRAD] NOBODY
WEAPON: Wristbands.
ARMOR: Bald, ponchos.
Brad lacks the ability to heal, buff, or debuff but is excellent at stunlocking and taking advantage of oil set-ups. Horse stance has no CD or cost and thus can be used whenever, meaning you can spam his AOE trip ability to keep mobs on the ground. Because of his past Joy use, he tends to go into withdrawl at the worst possible time in which case I suggest sleeping it off.
I have included the move sets for his various degrees of armedness. Once you lose both your arms, you lose the ability to dial combo and all abilities must be activated from the skill window. He will also no longer be able to equip wristbands because they’re called wristbands and not anklebands, I guess.
[TERRY] HINT LORD
“Here’s a hint, you suck. I rule.”
WEAPON: Wristbands.
ARMOR: Shirts.
DESCRIPTION: A lonely man who puts his heart and soul into his hints. He’d be a real asset if he wasn’t so weak.
Single target. Weak debuffs. Guaranteed rage, can heal a single target to full. Use cool pose to keep Terry alive. Can restore SP (rare.)
[NERN] ORATOR
“My sweet wife, God rest her soul…”
WEAPON: Handgun.
ARMOR: Bald, shawl.
DESCRIPTION: The self proclaimed historian of his time. He talks a lot.
Single target heal, can help kickstart TP users at beginning of fight. I never had any luck with his debuffs. Can restore SP (rare.)
[ROOSTER] CHANTICLEER
“Goldie…”
WEAPON: Wristband.
ARMOR: Poncho.
DESCRIPTION: A hard edged man with little concern for the outside world.
No heals, two physical AOEs, only one debuff type with percentages far lower than comparable abilities Brad has. Looks like a grown up version of the kid from Scribblenauts.
[OLAN] BOWSMAN
“Victory is like a fine whiskey…”
WEAPON: Bow.
ARMOR: Hat, shawl.
DESCRIPTION: A generally reserved man. He handles his bow as well as he handles his liquor, superbly.
No heals, single target, uses TP. Vantage Point helps survivability. Smoky Bow and Blood Bow weapons have chance to debuff (blind, bleed respectively.)
[RAGE] LUCHADOR
“My head is iron! IRON BABY!”
WEAPON: Wristband.
ARMOR: Mask, shawl.
DESCRIPTION: An energetic ex pro-wrestler known for his devastating headbutts. El Rage always puts the battle first, and his health second. He has high speed and attack, but somewhat low defense.
Dial combo. No support skills, only one debuff skill with low percentage chance, and one elemental skill.
[BEASTBORN] WILDMAN
WEAPON: Whip.
ARMOR: Hat, shirt, pads, shield.
DESCRIPTION: A man raised by animals. He has become your companion due to your display of dominance.
No heals, no buffs, uses TP. If you can keep him alive, he has great high percentage mob control and varied debuffs. Cheap to maintain as he only has 2 weapons in game. Despite burning, Deer Bomb is not fire based.
[MAD DOG] BARBARIAN
“Sorry son.”
WEAPON: Club.
ARMOR: Hat, pads.
DESCRIPTION: A boring man. It’s hard to tell what he’s capable of. He sure can take a hit though.
Single target, uses TP. Glass cannon with high percentage rates to DoT mobs. Works best with a companion who can cast oil.
[FARDY] TRUCK DRIVER
“I’m unhappy with my figure…”
WEAPON: Club.
ARMOR: Bare chest.
DESCRIPTION: A middle-aged man stripped of his masculinity.
AOE one trick pony, suffers from depression which cripples his stats. Percentage chance to trip among first three ranks of Truck Slam are actually all the same. Doubles at rank 4.
[PERCY] PUSHOVER
“Do you like spiders? Not me…”
WEAPON: Boomerang.
ARMOR: Bald, shawl.
DESCRIPTION: Joined you after a destiny deciding bowel movement. He’s just a regular guy.
Single target heals though doesn’t get his “good” heal until way too late. Pair with an oil debuff companion. Guaranteed burn debuff.
[BUCKETS] PISTOLEER
WEAPON: Handgun.
ARMOR: Shawl, poncho.
DESCRIPTION: He wears a paint can on his head.
Single target, no support abilities, only one debuff. Dual wields handguns.
[GARTH] ARTIST
“Death… A true work of art…”
WEAPON: Pencil (novelty.)
ARMOR: Mask, bare chest.
DESCRIPTION: A wandering artist. It’s unclear what his motives are, but he really likes to draw dirty stuff.
Single target, no heals but OK support if you can keep him alive. Use Uncomfortable Drawing on him to increase survivability. Guaranteed: multi-debuff cleanse, pssed off. High percentage chance for everything else. Drawings do no damage.
[GEESE] AVIOON
“Victory? Or misery?”
WEAPON: Wristbands.
ARMOR: Shawl, poncho, shirt.
DESCRIPTION: What kind of man lies beneath all these feathers? He speaks only in riddles and rhymes.
Single target, no heal, poison debuffs. Only character with true Animal-type attacks (Beastborn and Yazan’s Animal attacks are still physical based.)
[CARP] CUTTHROAT
“Gaaarglagleeglah.”
WEAPON: Knife.
ARMOR: Bare chest.
DESCRIPTION: Not much is known about this… Man?
Single target, single hit, no support skills really. Fever River is the only multi-hit attack Carp has. Poison Mist doesn’t actually do any initial damage, unlike Olan’s poisoning abilities. So you can end up using it, have it fail and see nothing for your effort.
[BO] BARD
“Play on boys, play on.”
WEAPON: Guitar (novelty.)
ARMOR: Shawl.
DESCRIPTION: A loving man. His lack of musical ability allows him to create strange powerful songs…
Bo is amazing support if you can keep him alive and his SP bar filled. No direct damage abilities so spam Guard while you wait for buffs to wear off to conserve SP on your way to bosses.
[HARVEY] LAWYER
“Justice, baby!”
WEAPON: Automatic weapon.
ARMOR: Hat, bare chest.
DESCRIPTION: A shifty Fishman lawyer. For whatever reason he speaks great English, but not Fishman…
Single target, can’t heal, OK debuff support. Awful companion to have if you’re running oil + fire for obvious reasons.
[RT] WILDCARD
“Huh?”
WEAPON: Duffel bag (novelty.)
ARMOR: Hat, poncho, shirt.
DESCRIPTION: One wild ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
Single target, no heals. A lot of debuff choices with high percentage success. Cheap to equip, like Beastborn.
[QUEEN] QUEEN BEE
“Damn straight.”
WEAPON: Club.
ARMOR: Hat, shawl, pads, bare chest.
DESCRIPTION: The seasoned leader of the Bees. Does not put up with ♥♥♥♥.
Single target, no support or debuff skills, chance to stun is incredibly low. Relies on multiple hits to create big damage. Look into equipping him with clubs that have debuff properties to take advantage of this.
[CLINT] CASANOVA
“Gutter trash.”
WEAPON: None.
ARMOR: Bare chest.
DESCRIPTION: This man is all looks. Many consider him the most handsome man left on Earth. His strength is equal to his beauty… You do the math on that.
Dial combo. Like a crappier Brad because he has no ability to replenish SP and chance to trip is lower.
[AJEET] PLAYBOY
“Hmph.”
WEAPON: Wristbands.
ARMOR: Hat, shirt.
DESCRIPTION: This man’s heart is almost as big as he is. A true wizard with his fingers, Ajeet is a force to be reckoned with.
Single target, no heals, offensive abilities burn through SP like crazy. None of his punjabi poke techniques use SP luckily and all have high percentage chance to apply.
[BIRDIE] DRUNKARD
“Joey… Jimmy… I miss you boys.
WEAPON: Wristbands.
ARMOR: Hat, poncho.
DESCRIPTION: A sad, silly drunkard.
Uses TP, only companion with TP-based group heal?, guaranteed oily cast imperative to an oil + fire set-up. Pass Out will save him in a lot of circumstances and being a TP character, you can basically spam group heal with no worry.
[YAZAN] CAT SHEPARD
“That’s a blushing crow to my heart…”
WEAPON: Katana which means “Japanese sword.”
ARMOR: Hat, poncho.
DESCRIPTION: The self-proclaimed Shepherd of Cats. He’s searching for the rumored Cat Haven.
Single target, can heal self, AOE AGI is whatever. Has a guaranteed bleed.
[JACK] MAGICIAN
“How did you… Are you a magician?!”
WEAPON: Playing cards (novelty.)
ARMOR: Hat, shirt.
DESCRIPTION: A travelling magician. Problem is, he’s terrible at magic…
Basically a fire mage. Has AOE. Magic Hat is a strange ability that will result in something random happening. It can do damage, debuff, or nothing.
[TIGER MAN] DOJO BUSTER
WEAPON: Spear.
ARMOR: Poncho.
DESCRIPTION: A strange man whose only desire is fighting the strongest of fighters.
Dial combo. Single target, specializes in bleeding and nothing else. Despite having a tiger’s head, none of his attacks are Animal-type (unlike Geese.)
[FLY] CART MASTER
“I’m the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ coolest!”
WEAPON: Automatic weapon.
ARMOR: Mask, shirt.
DESCRIPTION: A punkass jerk who loves cart racing. He has a sassy tongue and smelly body.
Fly is like a walking marlboro. Perpetually stinky. No heals but high chance to trip. Puke is a gamble.
[OLLIE] GREASER
“What a terrible investment!”
WEAPON: Automatic weapon.
ARMOR: Hat, shirt.
DESCRIPTION: A sweaty business owner who’s lost it all. He suffers from depression…
Chance to proc debuffs on his AOEs seems incredibly low. Powders and bleeds seem reliable though. Is depressive like Fardy.
[SHOCKLORD] PRO WRESTLER
“Sorry for holding you back and screwing up so much…”
WEAPON: None.
ARMOR: Mask, shirt, shawl, pads, bare chest.
DESCRIPTION: A powerful man prone to making mistakes after a life altering ring entrance.
You expected nothing and you were still let down.
[SONNY] SCHIZO-WRESTLER
“HARVEY! … Are you sure?”
WEAPON: None.
ARMOR: Bare chest.
DESCRIPTION: A former wrestler exiled for his violent, insane behavior. His only friend is his dog Harvey…
Uses TP, single target, not great at support, can’t heal. Stun and scare chance is super low.
[BUFFALO] SPORTSMAN
“This is more ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ than that bum call in ’82!”
WEAPON: Wristbands.
ARMOR: Pads.
DESCRIPTION: A former football player. He played so rough, that he lost his eye on the field…
Uses TP, single target, no support skills. Guaranteed burning, high chance for stun but both abilities that do this require you to level him to 25. Patriot Exploder is not fire element despite burning.
[CRISP] SWORDSMAN
WEAPON: Sword bundle (novelty.)
ARMOR: Shawl.
DESCRIPTION: A true warrior. He’s only with you because you’ve taken his lover hostage.
Single target, guaranteed burning, high chance to bleed. I bet you feel silly for keeping Toby hostage right now.
[D.CK] PARTY BOY
“I’m like… A party swan, and dude… I gotta soar, man.”
WEAPON: Boomerang.
ARMOR: Mask, shawl.
DESCRIPTION: A middle-aged man who really loves to party. He’s typically hungover.
TP user, can start self off with fast TP gain, chance to trip is very low, so-so support though “Party mode” buffs ATK, S.ATK, AGI, and LUCK. Thrusts hit multiple times.
ADDENDUM
Single target healers:
Terry, Nern, Percy.
AOE healers:
Bo, Birdie.
Self-healers:
Yazan, Birdie.
AOE:
Bo.
Single target:
Harvey, Birdie, Garth (enemy only.)
There are a few companions who can restore TP/SP. This can be useful during long treks through areas or if you’ve no restorative items.
D.ck: Can restore TP, self-only.
Nern: Can restore TP, SP.
Terry: Can restore SP.
Mad Dog: Can restore TP, self-only, taunts.
Yazan: Can restore SP, self-only.
And of course, Brad can restore his own SP.
Always manually enter skill combos. When you enter combos with the dial system, you are hitting the mob for as many letters are involved plus the skill itself.
While I wouldn’t say that oil and fire is overpowered, I will say that there are no mobs to my knowledge who are resistant or immune to oily debuff. That makes it the most reliable ability to have. And while some mobs are resistant to burning, that has no bearing on their fire weakness when oily. The caveat to running this combination is that there is only one companion who can cast oily: Birdie.
There are only two companions (Harvey, Crisp) who have water-based attacks and about as many mobs who are actually inately vulnerable to it. There is no ability that modifies water’s usefulness.
Geese is the only companion with pure animal-element attacks. There are mobs who are weak to animal attacks (Man’s Worst Friend) and mobs who are resistant to physical attacks (Oak Tree Steve.) I’m also of the mind that Ironbody buff only applies resist to physical damage, not animal damage. The only mobs who are resistant to animal damage are the Blood tribe and actual animals (snakes, squirrels, spiders, deer.)
These are companions that I believe by default have addictions to Joy and are susceptible to withdrawal. I did not include this on their character sections because I’m not really sure anyone cares.

Here is a list of all equippable items. I have included prices for items that can be bought from a merchant. Check my other guide to find the specific merchants. Items at beginning of list with no price tend to be default equipment on companions. Also I did not keep notes for boss drops or item finds unfortunately.
