Overview
This guide is brought to you by the Developer of Son.Light.Sleepwalker, Sean J. Miller. It definitely contains spoilers, so you probably shouldn’t read it until you are absolutely stuck on a chapter.
Overview
In this immersive, first player game, you are the Dad of a 9 year old sleep walking son. He terrifies you when he sleep walks. Although we don’t know what happened, you had woken him up in the past from sleep walking and something terrible happened.
The family has visited a psychiatrist to help the situation. She has given the guidance that if the son sleep walks, you should use your smart (“MEMO”) light switches to direct him back to his room. However, he can’t enter full light or he will awake and….welll…you don’t want that to happen!
You will view the action through your security camera system from your bedroom on your tablet. By your side is your wife helping you wrangle your son with the lights. You can switch cameras by clicking the camera buttons. You can turn lights on and off for the active camera by clicking the MEMO button on the right.
It is very important to learn the map of the house. Each room is labeled and has the camera number on it. The security system also has motion tracking to some degree, so a pointer will often track your son on the map. This is very useful, particularly in the later chapters.
The remainder of this guide will definitely introduce spoilers. So, to keep the mystique of the game, only read ahead if you have played and are stuck.
The four chapters developed so far have laid out the arching story and allowed us to develop the game mechanics. In this Early Access offering, we hope to take in feedback and ideas for other Chapter challenges for the full game. Please join us in the Steam community to discuss.
Chapter 1: Doctor’s Orders
In this chapter, you get familiar with the game mechanics. You can click through the cameras to learn the layout of the house. Be sure not to turn on any lights that could be directly overhead of your son.
The quickest way to direct him back to his room is to first wait until he is in the large family room. Then, turn on the light in the laundry room (Cam 6) and his room (Cam 4). As he approaches Cam 6, your wife will let you know he is to close. Quickly shut it off. If he wanders back into the other room, flick Cam 6 on and off a few times.
He should start making his way down the hall to his room. Once he reaches his door, turn off his room light (Cam 4). He should successfully make it back to bed and you will get a cut scene taking you to the next chapter.
Chapter 2: Bearly Able
No, that isn’t a spelling error in the title. This chapter is all about his bear. The psychiatrist told you that he must always sleep with his bear. Somehow, the bear is no where in site in his bedroom.
Click around the cameras to locate the bear. You will need to turn on the lights to see him.
Once you locate the room the bear is in, use your skills from Chapter 1 to lead your son to the bear. Remember: Don’t let your son walk into full light!
He will automatically pick up the bear. You will need to then lead him all the way back to his room similar to how you did it in Chapter 1. It’s a bear of a task. 🙂
Chapter 3: Drone vs. Door
The chapter title says it all. As your son walks out of his room, the door shuts behind him. This will make it impossible to simply lure him back with the lights. Luckily, his drone car, very similar to a Parrot Drone sold in stores, is just outside your door ready for action.
You will now see a drone button on your security screen of your tablet. Click it to switch back and forth from the security cameras and the drone.
Drive the drone to your son’s room and ram it open. Just don’t get too close to him or run into too many walls or he may awake!
Once the door is open, you can lead him back in as you did in Chapter 1.
Chapter 4: Your Best Suit
In this chapter, you here his ominous music horse. You can’t see anything on the cameras, so unfortunately, you have to go out of your room on foot – your worst nightmare!
In this chapter, you get to free roam. You can explore the house for easter eggs if you like with the exception of your son’s room. You wouldn’t want to wake him up.
Listen for the music horse and locate it. Once you do, you are now in a sticky situation. Your son is up and sleepwalking!
Slowly and carefully make your way back to your bedroom. Your wife tells you that the security system has gone beserk. The bedroom door is locked and you can’t get in. Lights are now coming on at random which could wake the boy!.
Your wife intructs you to turn off the lights before he gets to them. So, any lights that are on, run to them. They will turn off automatically, look around for the next one and the next one.
You’ll then get the big reveal to the story!
Additional Chapters?
In developing these 4 chapters, we conquered the development of the game mechanics and laid out our overall arching story. Being in Early Access, we welcome thoughts for other challenges we could introduce for the final game.
Please join us in the community to discuss your imaginative thoughts on what chapters could be added.
