Reincarnation and Singularities – Portals & Crunchs Explained Badly

Overview

How to use the synergy between Crunch and Portal to bump those rookie numbers up.

Abstract: Wait, isn’t this about leaves?

At the heart of this simple game lies some interesting mechanics, not least of which is the cycle of rebirth and reset that underpins the key to getting impressive numbers. This, then, is one way of explaining this in a different fashion using convenient metaphors…

The Yellow Portal: Reincarnation

Think of the leafblower.
Imagine that every time he steps through the leaf portal he is reborn fresh at the start of his journey. The knowledge (in this case, gold coins) he gains each cycle adds to his leaf collecting ability. Every life more powerful, fuelled by the gains of the previous, standing on the shoulders of giants to reach ever higher.

Every time you activate a Leaf Portal, you gain the Prestige earned in that cycle. You can then spend that Prestige on modifiers that multiply your gains, boost your converter output, gain more Prestige and the like. These modifiers do not reset when you activate a Portal and start a new cycle, allowing you to build on them incrementally, each cycle accumulating leaves and Prestige ever faster as you increase the modifiers.

Cycling relatively often in the early game will allow you to raise multipliers faster than trying to accumulate a large amount of Prestige on your first run. Prestige early, Prestige often.

The Orange Portal: Singularity

No matter how many times you are reborn, the Universe remains the same. You must change the Universe, not yourself. Allow your old self to be washed away as you reset the Universe itself, rewriting the strange code that governs everything.

Activating the Big Leaf Crunch (BLC) will allow you to modify a 2nd set of parameters that multiply your outputs independent of your Prestige modifiers. When you activate a BLC it will reset your Prestige modifiers and you will lose whatever Prestige you currently have accumulated BUT it allows you to spend the BLC coin gained on activation on those 2nd separate modifiers.

Conclusion: What does it all mean??

By altering the Universe, I have altered the very world which my future selves will inhabit. Theirs is a stronger world now. They will be more powerful. Perhaps in time, they’ll get that funky high from the yellow sun.

The two sets of modifiers have a multiplicative effect of their own. As with Prestige, it’s an effect best used as soon as practically possible to take advantage of the synergies possible like (multiplying your Prestige gains) for faster reincarnation cycles.

Take the What The Combo? multiplier as an example: every level multiplies your leaf combo gains by 200%. Put 20 levels into it and suddenly you’re multiplying your combo by 4000%…

Strategic tip:
Don’t waste flask resources on BLC reward multipliers if you’re not ready to Crunch, as you’ll lose whatever BLC coins are ready to be claimed if you Portal instead. The first time you Crunch, the Prestige shop will vanish – don’t panic, just spend your BLC then Portal ASAP and it’ll return.
