Kohan Ahriman’s Gift strategy guide

Overview

An advanced guide to play difficult campaign scenarios of “Kohan Ahriman’s Gift”

Kohan Ahriman’s Gift strategy guide

This game has 3 main campaigns:

Ahriman’s Gift – contains 14 scenarios
The Quest for Darius – contains 6 scenarios
The Enemy Within – contains 4 scenarios

Completing all the campaigns even in easy mode is very tough specially 13th scenario of campaign “Ahriman’s Gift”. 14th scenario is a drama not a challenging game to play. So, 13th is mainly the last scenario.

I have completed all of them but it took lots of time specially 13th scenario took 50 hours approximately in easy difficulty game mode.

Strategy guide:

1. Blacksmith with “Iron Export” upgrade provides most benefit for gold, then the market with “Bank” upgrade, then the Woodmill with “Wood Export” upgrade then “Quarry” with “Stone Export” upgrade.
2. At the beginning of the game concentrate on increasing gold income up to 70-100 gold per minute.
3. Then build armies as needed. Your gold income will be less at that time. Create 1 company of units of scout (horseman or any fast unit with low price) that contains 4 units. Start exploring the map with it after the scout is in full health.
4. At the beginning of game create light or medium troops with 2 archers in each company of 6 units. Other 4 units can be melee. Rely on troop numbers instead of troop quality. That is, create more medium quality troops like troops of 3/4 companies.
5. While attacking explored cities you can build new cities or capture new cities and upgrade your economy gradually. At this stage you can build “Blacksmith” and upgrade with “Blast Furnace” option to produce more iron. If your troops requires wood build woodmill and so on.
6. Mana cannot be exported and converted to gold. When you have good economy make a city capable to recruiting high quality troops by building required components and upgrades. When you are low in mana that is you have negative in mana income it impacts your gold income drastically. -1 mana = -5 gold. So, to produce more mana you can build “Library” with “Mage College” upgrade. It will provide 8 mana per minute.
7. You have a limit of maximum 20 companies. So try to increase company numbers to 20. When you have reached 20 limit then replace each company with better/heavier units gradually.
8. You have a limit of maximum 20 outposts. Concentrated outposts like 10 outposts in adjacent places are good for defense. Outposts placed in good strategic positions are also efficient that is already mentioned in this game’s tutorial.
9. Time is a big factor in this game. If you attach the enemy late the enemy will become stronger. In some scenarios you can start over a campaign scenario from the beginning if you have lost much time.
10. Place your units in control groups. Select some units and click “Ctrl” + “1” to group them. Later if you press or double press “1” your groups will be automatically selected. If double pressed your game window will move to those units.
11. Upgrade your outposts. An upgraded outpost costs same upkeep (-3 stone) as a normal outpost but its stronger.
12. Best scout for human races is a company with 4 scouts (horseman) with 2 rangers as support. Rangers can run very fast compared with other support units even with scouts (horseman). Moreover rangers can eliminate terrain penalty (for example units become slower in woods) and the whole company is very fast when rangers are there in that company as support units. Pathfinder is better than ranger if available to recruit.

Strategy guide for 13th scenario of campaign “Ahriman’s Gift” in easy difficulty mode:

You have 4 enemies
1. Royalist – blue color
2. Council – purple color
3. Council – green color
4. Nationalist – orange color
Blue is ally of purple and green is ally of orange. But all of those are your enemies. One ally group is enemy of another ally, that is purple is enemy of green.

The problem of this scenario is you will be at the middle of the map and all enemies will attack you from 4 corners. So controlling the middle will be tough at the beginning of the game.

What may work is, create total 3 powerful units similar to the unit that is available at the beginning of the game. Also create one settler company with 4 settlers. Then attack the “Royalist” (blue color) faction at the top left corner of the map. Explore and eliminate the blue faction.
Then delete “Ahriman’s Citadel” that is situated at the middle of the map. As you cannot control the middle you are deleting this because others cannot be benefited from it too. Before deleting this make sure your economy will be fine after deleting this.

Build your base at the top left corner of the map and use time properly. The problem of this map is, you can have max 20 companies but your enemies can have 20 companies each. So it will be tough. For this reason attack them early with more number of troops.

Grow you base from top left corner to the bottom right cornet gradually. Build 1 outpost beside any captured settlement. For your settlements in the border build the following 4 components for defense:
1. Quarry with upgrade (“Masonry Guild”) that will repair the city automatically without the help of “Engineer” companies.
2. Wall with “Fortified Wall” upgrade.
3. Barracks with “Garrison” upgrade.
4. Library with “Astrology Hall” upgrade.

Increase your troops count up to 20 companies. Attack enemy cities in groups. Build you economy and explore the map at a time.
When your economy is good and you have already 20 companies upgrade you companies gradually. You can use 4 “Void Beast” and 2 “Lich” as support in 1 company. It is a tough one and will make your game easier.

Setting game speed to “50%” of normal may help to manage this scenario. Saving companies in preset in the company creation screen will save time and effort. Use hotkeys to create companies. For example press “R” then press “1” then press “Enter” to create the company saved in the 1st slot. Similar for 2-9 and 0 slot.

Turn on the “Elapsed Game Time” from “Options” and keep an eye on the game time as time is a big factor here. For scenario 13 I have completed the game in 3 hours of game time. Not only the time but also cities the enemy is capturing makes it tougher. So, capture the lands too in time. If time or land is lost much then it will be impossible to finish the game and you have to start from the beginning or from an older saved game.
