Defense Guide - How to | Remastered! for Bloons TD Battles

Defense Guide – How to | Remastered!

Overview

If anyone of you remembers the horrible defense how to guide, which i made around 4 years ago, you might know that it was kind of effective, but also really bad in terms of content, and it’s also slightly outdated. So anyway, i’m going to remake it. Note: this is 100% likely not the best way to win, it’s just from my experience.

Quick rundown on Basic Information

For this part, LISTEN!

First, we need to talk: What exactly is Defense Mode?
Defense Mode is basically the alternative to sending bloons, but it’s extremely unpopular, consindering that there are no clubs, no special events revolving around it, everyone just doesn’t play it. The gamemode also is the only one where you can only use energy for boosts, unlike Battle Arenas, which are Assault modes, and where you are able to have free boosts. Defense mode does not have that.
In Defense Mode, you can’t send bloons to the other side, and you have to invest money into some buttons

Now, here’s another part of the quick section: Which towers should i not use?

Do not, and i mean, DO NOT, use the COBRA tower. It’s useless in this gamemode, due to it first being a weak tower on it’s own, and the extra 80$ aren’t really useful in the long run, which means you’d need to spam it, but it is hard to spam in Defense Mode.
Other bad towers include the Tack shooter, Bomb tower, but also very expensive towers such as the Super Monkey aren’t really useful in this gamemode, due to only having 75 income at the start, and thus not eneugh time to build an extremely strong defence in a short time.

Tower recommendations

This is more flexible in terms of strategy than it might look like.

Basically, in Defense mode, you can remember that you have only 75 eco at the start? Well, for this we need towers that have immense firepower with just little money, and here come the Engineer Monkey and the Ninja Monkey into question. As a third tower, the Monkey Apprentice
Is optional, but you can also use the Banana Farm to either replace the Ninja or Apprentice.

But, this doesn’t mean you only have to choose these, except for the Engineer Monkey. You can replace the Ninja with Dart Monkeys, as they are cheap and have good firepower with little upgrades, just like the Ninja and Apprentice do, even if the Ninja is a bit more expensive.

What all of these have in common, is that all of them have the abiltiy to, with a bit of upgrades, both pop lead and detect camo without any extra help (such as Villages) which is extremely important. Apprentice gets the fastest to that, but suffers from slow attack rate, and expensive upgrades, the Ninja and Dart Monkey get slower to it, but both slightly suffer from low firerates too, but their upgrades are strong too (DM can throw massive balls that can pop many, for example, camo leads, same for Apprentice, Ninja throws stun bombs that can pop lead, and Ninja itself can detect camo from the start, and Engineer can do a lot with the cleansing foam, which includes popping camo and lead.)

But wait, there’s more to the towers!

The Target option for towers can be used to make the towers aim at specific bloons (First, basically aiming at the first bloon in sight, Last, which makes the tower aim at the furthest bloon, Close for the closest bloons, and Strong for the much stronger bloons.) This makes, for example, the Engineer more effective on Last, if you have towers close to him, as he will not let himself get disturbed by closer bloons, and, if the map layout is correct, can shoot down entire lines multiple times. You should not micromanage this for sentries.

Quality is better than Quantity in Defense Mode,

Gameplay

For the most part, you are free to do what you want, but here are a few things to note.

Engineer Monkey’s importance:
Now, you’ve seen that i praise this tower a lot, but it’s for one reason: Sentries. The tower can place sentries, which are basically 0-1ish Dart monkeys, which you can buy for free with just 500 in the pocket. Engineer also has two branches: Cleansing Foam and Bloon Trap, which are important for general safety in your defences, and Sprockets for more DPS in the sentries, but no camo or lead poppability. Ignore Overclock, as it’s expensive and basically useless.

Quick setup for people with low battle score:
Knowing that some here probably do not have 3rd or 4th tier upgrades availible due to either lack of medals or low battle score, you should always bring the Apprentice, as it is the only tower in your loadout that can both pop camo and lead. But, Engneer Monkey is still very useful with the sentries!

Now, let’s get to a few select bits.

-By Round 10, try to double your income from 75 to 150. This way, you can afford better upgrades.
-Do not rush everything. Remember, quality is better than quantity here, and it’s better to think twice about spamming a specific tower, as you could shoot yourself into the foot in the long run if you aren’t careful.
-Always place Engineer at the start of the match, somewhere at a long line in the middle of the map. Set him to Last once you can afford another tower, and place the other tower.
-Try to have good camo and lead detection by round 15.
-Expect to lose a few lives in Defense mode, let a few bloons run through as long as they are reds, blues or greens.
-Think stategically, place specific towers like Monkey Engineers partially spread out on long tracks, and put the Engineers on Last, after upgrading them to 1-1 or 2-0.
-Do not rush specific, for the short term unneeded, upgrades (examples: Distraction, except if you’re going for an anti-lead Ninja, or Sprockets for the Engineers.)

The End, and a few extra notes!

I’ve developed my guides over the past few years. Defense Mode – How to, was the first guide i’ve ever created, and that was at the time my English skills were really bad. Today, i know, and can think more complciated guides, ideas, et cetera. My old guide had around 450 views at the time i deleted it, and i realized how badly it was made after looking at for a moment. It was simply cringe.

Oh and…
