Afterfall InSanity Extended Edition Guide

Storyline achievements guide for Afterfall InSanity Extended Edition

Storyline achievements guide

Overview

This guide contains informations and hints how to get all of the achievements related in some way to a story mode of a game. It does not contain information about Arena mode.

Introduction

This achievement was written entirely by me, however a noticeable contribution to it was made by Mezhavecis, who helped quite a lot with Doctor Nosy on Steam discussion forum.

I haven’t really been a hardcore achievement hunter, but I’d lie if I said I don’t like helping people. So, I wrote this guide for those of you, who want to get all of the achievements to clear few things up and make you aware what you should care about and what you can basically ignore.

What to care about?

Quite frankly – when it comes to achievements – not much. Theoretically, when you look at the global achievements there are 2 “collectible” types in game, but in reality – it’s only one and that is:

Doctor Nosy which requires you to get 25 (used to be 33, before it got “fixed”) notes in the entire game. Assuming all the notes that I found when the requirement was 33 still count – this means, there should be 30 notes that actually count towards the achievement.

Other than that? There are 2 that you can get at specific places in a game:

Jackpot! which requires you to find an ammo pack in the vending machine. This one you can get easily literally 5 minutes into a game.

I337 h4xx0r which requires you to hack a device with Level 2 Security with less than 5 mistakes. This one on the other hand requires some luck and a lot of attempts. There are I think 3 places where you can get it and the first one is the best for it.

Eventually, you should always try to sprint if possible to be able to get:

Long Distance Runner. Basically the achievement requires you to sprint for 4000m – yup, 4km. So run if possible. You may not get it straight away, but if you happen to repeat the game, you should be able to get it at around 3rd playthrough.

What can be ignored?

So what achievement can you ignore, since you’ll get them anyway? Quite a lot to be honest. Firstly any of achievements based on progress. There are ten of them:
1 – Parasomnia
2 – Psychosis
3 – Depression
4 – Mania
5 – Agoraphobia
6 – Phagophobia
7 – Neurosis
8 – Paranoia
9 – Delusion
10 – Insomnia

All of them you get after completing a level (not chapter). So, as long as you’re playing till the end – you’ll get them. Then there is:

Good Listener – which may seem like it’s a collectible achievement, which requires finding hidden recordings scattered around the levels, but in reality – it’s only about Albert talking to himself at fixed points in the game and unless for some reason it bugs out, there is no way, you’ll miss it.

Coup de grâce – this one you get for performing brutal finishers / executions. Basically, if you hit or a shoot enemy, enough you sometimes get him to fell on his knee. Then, if you approach him and attack with a LMB – you’ll perform an finisher/execution. You just need to do this 30 times in the game.

Here’s Albert! – this one you’ll most likely get on your first playthrough. Fireaxes can be found very often in Afterfall and they work well as weapons.

Shelter “Gory” – possibly you’ll get it on your first playthrough, if not – you’ll get it trying to get other weapon related achievements.

What’s left?

So, what’s left? Difficulty based achievements – and you’ll get one of them right at the first playthrough. Problem is, I don’t remember, whatever Insanity is available right from the beginning or not – if it is, you can technically get all of them in one playthrough. These achievements are:

Clinic – Beat the game on Easy difficulty setting.

Sanitarium – Beat the game on Normal difficulty setting

Asylum – Beat the game on Hard difficulty setting

Dancing Loony Bin – Beat the game on InSane difficulty setting.

Weapon based:
Look Ma’, no scope! – Kill 100 using headshots. Pretty much self explanatory.

Headhunter – Smash 50 heads with a kick to the head in the finisher. Apparently, what you have to is damage an enemy enough so he falls on his knees, but instead of finishing him with Left mouse button, which is most common finisher and gets you toward “Coup de grâce”, you have to finish him with the other one, which is bound by default to V key.

Pacifier – Kill 50 opponents with ‘Pacyfikator’ Telescopic Baton. This one is pretty grindy, since you’re really not going to be using this weapon – it’s just not very good. ‘Pacyfikator’ is usually dropped by the guards in the first few chapters of a game. One “Pacyfikator” can be found right after starting Chapter 7, on a few metal boxes on the right.

Hammerin’ time! – Kill 30 opponents with Power Hammer. It’s not that rare of a weapon, but you’ll have to still repeat some chunks of levels a couple of times to get it. For me, the best way to get it is start a Chapter 12. After you clean up the first area near the huge elevator, you’ll have to interact with a console that opens a huge metal gate. You’ll see something which looks like this:
Instead of going between 2 cargo containers in a middle, go around the truck on the left. There you’ll find a Sladgehammer. Then continue with a level – right as you go between two cargo containers, you’ll activate a checkpoint – if you’re playing on low difficulty, this is a perfect spot for grinding this achievement.

Hack n’ Slash! – Kill 50 opponents with Sickle. Just like a “Power Hammer”, Sickle is not really all that rare of a weapon and it isn’t bad either. Sickle can often be found used by human enemies. The problem is getting the kill count to 50.

Special Treatment – “Tranquilize” 20 opponents with Syringe. From what I know, you only get this weapon once in the entire game, right before the storage area in Level 2, so the best way to get an achievement is to tranquilize a bunch of enemies in that fragment of a game and then reload a checkpoint, repeating the process till you get an achievement.

Olé! – Kill 30 opponents with Raging Bull. I’m currently not sure how many times in a game you can find this one. 2… maybe 3. Either way, once you’ll get it – you will really want to use it, due to the damage it does.

Achievement specific – Doctor Nosy

As mentioned previously, Doctor Nosy requires you to gather 25 notes in the entire game. There should be 30 notes that you can find in the game. Below is a video guide that I made, along with a list:

Level 1 – Sheltered Life:
01. New PDA Function – when picking a PDA.
02. Small ad – At the end of a corridor, right when you leave Tokaj’s apartment.
03. Veteran Meeting – Near the pillar, in front of bar’s entrance.
xx. Request – In bar, left of the stairs – doesn’t count towards achievement.

Level 2 – No Daylight in Shelter:
04. Storage Area Administrator’s Note – In a storage area. Under yellow painted car lift.
05. Little note 1 – In a circular room, which looks to have a WARP core in the middle (light pillar)
06. Hastily Written Note – On the shelves, right of a room where scientist are.
07. Code – Given after talking to scientist – required to finish a mission.
08. Lab Worker’s Note 2 – On the desk in a room where Professor Tomaszewski is.
09a. Cryptic note – When fallowing professor Tomaszewski, after the airlock, where you split, before the room when you start generators. There is a fence there. If you shoot a barrel, it will destroy the fence.

Level 3 – Interrupted Transmission:
09b. Cryptic note (duplicate!) – Right at the start in a first room on a desk.
10. Welder’s note – On a crate near a guy, who tries to weld a door.
11. Piece of paper 1 – On the table, in a room where Colonel pops up on a screen when you enter it.
12. Mental Outbreaks – On a half-circular table, right in front of security door (where a hand and a head is needed).
13. Dirty cryptic note – In a huge area, right after security door.
14. Quartermaster’s note – On a sofa in Marcin’s room.
15. Marcin’s note – in the same room, right near Marcin’s body.
16. Piece of paper 2 – After you go out of Marcin’s room and backtrack a little, you go through airlock (or is it decontamination chamber – you know, red laser area, where game lags) – right past it on the floor is a note.
17. Shelters in the Area – Given automatically after hacking a computer (required to finish the mission?)

Level 4 – One Way Ticket:
18. Little note 2 – There is a console, where you have to hold USE key to raise cargo container. After that you vault (climb?) over the box. Note is on a small metal crate after this box – in front of airlock.
19. Arek’s note – In a room, where there is a screen an a console that you use to control a maintenance bot.
20. Cargo Manifest – After you ride a circular glass elevator you get to an area which looks like nothing else in a game. You take first left and hack a panel (which is RED or at least orange). Note is being the door.
21. Appointment with the Colonel – this one is in the room, that you get into with a right corridor. On the desk.

Level 5 – Backstage of Glory:
22. Note 2 – In the apartment. Hard to miss.
23. Newspaper 2 – When you destroy a lock on a gate, you fight some enemies in an area near a river. The newspaper is on a side-walk – easy to miss.

Level 6 – Edge of Humanity:
24. Old newspaper – In front of a guy, who you give your weapon to.

Level 7 – Escape:
25. Newspaper 3 – After a chase sequence you have to shoot a padlock and go through the gate. On the left there are doors that you can kick. In a store you’ll find a newspaper.
26. Bloodstained piece of paper – In an apartment with an entrance right in front of a guy who throws barrels at you.
27. Newspaper 4 – In an area which looks like a marketplace. After you shoot down a cargo container.
28. Shopping list – At the store, after Audiolog of Tokaj and Shelf-pushing “puzzle”.

Level 8 – Raise the Curtain
29. Karolina’s latter – Between consoles that you use to change atmosphere of a city.

Level 9 – City of Light
30. Priest’s note – In an area with a lot of tents, in front of a church. Note is near the small cross on the left.

Achievement specific – Jackpot!

As mentioned previously – this one is easy to get. Right in the first chapter you meet Marcin, after cutscene there is a couple of vending machines. Just walk to one and press “USE” key a couple of times. Here’s a video:

Achievement specific – I337 h4xx0r

As I said – you’re going to need some luck for it and plenty of patience. Basically, on a level 2 you’ll eventually get to a circular room with a huge lighting pillar. There you’ll find first Level 2 secured computer. Try to “hack” it with the least number of mistakes you can make. If you’ve made more than 5 mistakes, press cancel button (default “F”) and start again – it’s better, than restarting from a checkpoint. Video below shows a strategy how to get it:

If you were to ask me how many attempts it took me to get it? A lot. I’ve probably spent around 40 minutes “hacking” until I got it… and that’s with THIS strategy.

Changelog / To do.

Aaand that’s it. I’ll try to expend a little on this guide in a future. Especially with a guide for hardest difficulty.

For the time however – it’ll have to do.

v. 1.1 – Added strategy video for hacking achievement.
v. 1.2 – Fixed some typos.
v. 1.3 – Added informations about Headhunter.
v. 1.4 – Expended “Hammerin’ time!”
v. 1.4.1 – Added Annotations for notes #26 and #27 (wrong order).
