The Escapists Guide

How to customise "The Escapists" soundtrack. for The Escapists

How to customise “The Escapists” soundtrack.

Overview

Have you played through the DLC Duct Tapes are Forever, Escape Team, or Santa’s Sweatshop and thought: “I wish I could play these exclusive soundtracks on the normal prisons.” Well; if you didn’t know – Find out here!

Step 1 : Hacking into the game folder

This only works for mac, although it should also work for windows.

Without furtherordo, here’s how to do it:

Step 1 : Find “The Escapists” game folder.

To do this: On your Steam games, right-click on “The Escapists”
Then left-click on “Properties”
A window should pop up, at the top bar, left-click on “LOCAL FILES”
Some buttons should appear under it: press “BROWSE LOCAL FILES…”
With some luck: you should get here.

It’s not that easy. These are the local files, not the game files. To get to the game files,
Right-click on “The Escapists” in Finder (The application – not the folder.)
Then Left-click “Open Package Contents”
Okay – I think you are here:

Well done, you have hacked into the game’s files!

Step 2 : Backing up the original soundtrack file

Make sure you follow very carefully with this one, as if it goes wrong – your game will get corrupted. Be sure to back-up your WHOLE game before proceeding.

Step 2 : Backing up the original soundtrack file

From here:

Go Contents->Resources
Copy the Music folder and paste it in a safe place.
Rename it “Backup Music” so you know it is in the case of a dire emergancy.

That’s good – you did it.
BUT WAIT!

I havn’t finished.

Step Who Knows Who Cares : Restoring the back-up

To restore the backup – delete the Music file in “The Escapists” game files.
Then copy the back-up file you made earlier.
Paste it in “The Escapists” game files. (Where the one you deleted was)
Rename the file to “Music”

I’ll repeat this later – this is important!

Step 3 : Editing it

The important part!

For this step I’ll be changing the soundtrack to the soundtrack found in “Duct Tapes are Forever” but the same works for “Escape Team” and “Santa’s Sweatshop”

NOT fun fact: “Santa’s Sweatshop” contains the same soundtrack to “Jingle Cells”

Nous Debutons!

Step 3 : Editing it

Delete the following files:
chow.ogg
lightsout.ogg
lockdown.ogg
rollcall.ogg
shower.ogg
work.ogg
workout.ogg

Rename the following files:
X_chow.ogg –> chow.ogg
X_lightsout –> lightsout.ogg
X_lockdown –> lockdown.ogg
X_rollcall.ogg –> rollcall.ogg
X_shower.ogg –> shower.ogg
X_work.ogg –> work.ogg
X_workout –> workout.ogg

X being the folowing:

DTAF – Duct Tapes are Forever
escteam – Escape Team
SS – Santa’s Sweatshop ; Jingle Cells

If you don’t know how to rename :
Right-click on the sound file,
Select “Rename”

You Did It!

Step 4 : Restoring the back-up

Step 4 : Restoring the back-up

To restore the backup – delete the Music file in “The Escapists” game files.
Then copy the back-up file you made earlier.
Paste it in “The Escapists” game files. (Where the one you deleted was)
Rename the file to “Music”

Hopefully this worked.

If anything here didn’t work, please comment and I’ll do the best I can to fix it.

Other info

Really, if you want, you can use any .ogg sound files.
