How to Escapists, A Beginner’s Guide [WIP]

Overview

This guide will teach you the basics of escaping, so that you can devise your own ways to escape prisons.

IntroDUCTion

Hahaha! We’re barely into the guide and I’m already making puns. Welcome, gratefully to my guide. I have worked a long time on making this, and I hope that many people are reading this now, and are interested in going further. Have fun reading!

Getting Money

This section will teach you multiple ways to get money. Some of these will get you a lot of money, while some do not.

You may think jobs are pretty useless, but they are actually your main source of income. Each job has a different thing to do, which you need to do to complete a quota in the time that you have. Some jobs have different of styles of completing the quota. Some require simple crafting, some require walking around, while some require a bit of waiting. If you have the chance to, get the metalshop job immediately. It is the highest paying job in every prison, plus it gets you infinite metal, unless there is a contraband detector. The highest paying jobs will always be at the bottom. To take a job that you want, keep that player from doing their job by attacking them before they get to their job area, and getting them to chase you around the compound, if they get beaten up, steal their uniform and watch them go back to their cell to get another one, when you bump up their nose again and get them to chase you around again. Then, once the job period is done, their job will be no more.Though, claiming some better jobs takes more intellect.

Favours are optional “quests” that you can complete when someone has an exclaimation mark above their head. These vary in money payouts, though harder tasks have slightly higher payouts.I would suggest taking the “Find this for me” favours, as they are easy, with an adequate payout.

Hiding Contraband

Hiding spots for contraband is a definite must, especially when you get more than 9 pieces of contraband (6 inventory, 3 toilet). This section will tell you where and how to hide the rest of your contraband.

This, in my opinion, is the best way of concealing contraband. Maintenance tunnels are those dark corridors behind different areas, usually blocked by an orange utility door. These are very good for hiding your contraband, because guards will never enter these, and they are the easiest to get to. Usually you would want to use one beside your cell so that you have easy access to it. At night, (or during the day, if you’re a badass) you can take 4 forks, or a different chipping tool, and chip through the wall. But make sure to create a poster beforehand, because guards would definitely be suspicious with a huge gaping hole in the wall. A poster is just a magazine and duct tape. Plus it’s not contraband, so it can be stored in your desk easily!

This is not a very good strategy of hiding contraband, unless you are digging out, or have part of your escape underground. This is not a very efficient strategy because you will have the constant need of timber to make braces, and you will always need to have a digging tool handy. Its also not very good because when you go down, you cannot cover the entrance, as you are already in the hole. Also, you need to be prepared for rocks and need to dispose of all the dirt that you will accumulate over time, which is even more contraband.

This is the hardest way to hide your contraband, but it is one of the most effective. Guards will not try to get in the vents, unless the vent cover is not there. You can easily make a fake vent cover using two paper maches, however it loses 20% durability every time you use it, so you wont have very easy access to it. It is a good idea to hide your things in the vents if your escape route involves going into the vents, because then you can hide the things you need for escape up there.

Staying Stealthy

This section will teach you how to stay out of racking up your guard heat, while also doing all of the monstrously evil things. This is important if you want to get the 0% guard heat achievment, or don’t want to get beat up.

Different Types of Escape

This section will tell you different ways of escaping, and how to execute them. Some prisons, however, require one very specific solution, which you can find on the wiki here[theescapists.gamepedia.com], unless its a prison from the workshop, which will have to be completed with trial and error.

You will usually want to escape at nighttime, with a guard outfit. Also, you need to make sure you leave a bed dummy in your bed when you leave, so guards dont get suspicious. Also, your cellmates with snich on you, unless thier opinion of you is high. SNITCHES END IN DITCHES. Also, most of these will get you to the outer perimeter, and youll need to cut the fence to get out. Finally, some prisons have a generator that makes the fences electric, so that you cannot cut them without turning it off, meaning that you have to turn off the generator first.

This one is probably not going to be able to be excecuted in most prisons, as they usually have unchippable walls, or have the black obstacle in between. But, if it is possible, you can chip through the walls at nighttime, while putting posters in between, so that you are outside of the perimeter.

This method is used in a lot of different prisons. You have to find a maintenance tunnel that has a ladder inside of it. Chip into this and place a poster where the hole is. Then sometime at night go into it and go up the ladder. It may go into the vents, but that is no worry, because there should be another ladder to go up to the roof. Make sure you bring a sheet rope though, to get down. Also, if you have the materials, make a grappling hook, just in case. When you are up top, be sure to avoid spotlights on the roof or you’ll get caught.

Random But Helpful Facts

-Sitting in the chair in visitation will make a person come to you and chat with you

-Stealing inmates’ uniforms will make them go to thier cells to get a new one

-Flushing things down the toilet has a random clog rate, so you can flush dental floss down the toilet and have it clog

-Stealing things from inmates is precious to everyone, but guards will attack if they see you do it. If its just too good not to take, just take it, run to your desk to put it away, and take the beating.

-You can put bedsheets on bars to make it impossible to see inside, besides the door. (guards with an OPN of 30 or lower will take these down)

-Snipers can see you chipping walls when outside
