Overview
This tutorial is over how Jet Turbine Generators and Biomass Refineries work.
Prerequisites
Before you can start, you need to make sure you have found and scanned Nickel ore. Scanning Nickel ore unlockeds the Advanced Steel project which, in turn, unlocks the Build Gun v2 and Steel Cutter Head blueprint. You can only mine Biomass and Crystal Deposits with these.
Blueprints
You will need four blueprints in order to build everything:
- Refinery Controller
- Refinery Reactor Vat Component
- Jet Turbine Generator Housing
- Jet Turbine Generator Intake
To get these blueprints, you must first find and scan biomass, which you can find at about -400 give or take.
Building the Biomass Refinery
In order to build the Biomass Refinery, you will need to first make the Biomass Componient:
High:
- 27 Titanium Bars
- 27 Advanced Machine Blocks
Raw:
- 27 Titanium Bars
- 108 Crystal Deposits
- 27 Nickel Bars
- 27 Iron Bars
To build the Biomass Componient, place the blocks so that they make a 3 sided cube.
Next you will need to make the BIomass Controller:
High:
- 1 Advanced Machine Block
- 20 Lithium Bars
- 10 Gold Bars
- 40 Crystal Deposits
Raw:
- 1 Iron Bar
- 1 Nickel Bar
- 44 Crystal Deposits
- 20 Lithium Bars
- 10 Gold Bars
Once you have built the controller, simply attach it to the Biomass Componient.
Making High Energy Composite Fuel and Plastic Pellets
You now need to do two things to the Refinery Controller. You need to provide power to the controller somehow (How ever you want to do it) and you need to switch the recipe to High Energy Composite Fuel. To do this, hover over it and press E.
You now need to build empty fuel canisters. Each canister will take up 16 iron bars.
You now need to attach a hopper to the controller on the other side and set it to remove only. Inside the hopper, deposit the Biomass you mined with the Build Gun v2 and your empty fuel canisters.
The refinery will take the same amount of biomass to make a High Energy Composite Fuel canister as it does to smelt ore to bars. If you are on normal, this means 8 Biomass = 1 High Energy Composite Fuel canister.
Once you have filled at least 1 canister, switch the controller to Plasic Pellets and make 36 of them for the Jet Turbine Generator Housing.
Building a Jet Turbine Generator
In order to build the Jet turbine Generator, you will need 36 Jet Turbine Generator Housing blocks and 9 Jet Turbine Generator Intake blocks.
36 Jet Turbine Generator Housing blocks high:
- 36 Advanced Machine Blocks
- 36 Plastic Pellets
- 36 Gold Bars
36 Jet Turbine Generator Housing blocks raw:
- 36 Plastic Pellets (8 biomass per pellet (288))
- 144 Crystal Deposits
- 36 Nickel Bars
- 36 Iron Bars
- 36 Gold Bars
9 Jet Turbine Generator Intake blocks high:
- 9 Advanced Machine Blocks
- 9 Low Grade Steel Bars
9 Jet Turbine Generator Intake blocks raw:
- 36 Crystal Deposits
- 18 Iron Bars
- 18 Nickel Bars
To build the acutal Jet Turbine Generator, start off by placing the Housing blocks in a 4×3 rectangle, then building up 3 blocks.
On the side that is 3×3, build a 3×3 square sticking off of the side using the Intake. Once you have done this, the Jet Engine should build.
Power to the Jet Engine
Make sure that the Intake of the Jet engine has room and is not up against a wall. Take two hoppers and place both on the sides of the Jet Engine and turn one to remove only and one to add only.
In the remove only hopper, insert your High Energy Composite Fuel cansiters. You should notice that your fuel canister is instantly placed into your empty hopper. Remove the now empty canister and refill it and place it back into the hopper. The canister will only be taken out and the Jet fueled once it reaches under 100%.
Your Jet Engine should now be generating power. You can place power storage along the Jet and capture the fuel. The Jet Engine will generate a lot of power.
