Jedi Outcast Graphics tweaks for STAR WARS™ Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast™

Jedi Outcast Graphics tweaks

Overview

This guide will help you make Jedi Outcast look & sound as good as possible with some simple tweaks in the jkconfig.cfg file (no downloads required)

Locating jk2config.cfg file

The default location for the jk2config.cfg file is
C:Program Files (x86)SteamsteamappscommonJedi OutcastGameDatabasejk2config.cfg

Once you locate the file, open it with WordPad to begin editing the command lines.

Any lines mentioned here that you can’t find to edit in your jk2config.cfg file simply add in at the bottom of the file list.

The following commands are pretty generic which should benefit anyone regardless of your hardware configuration.

WARNING:
it has been brought to my attention that some people are experiencing crashes after cutscenes with
seta r_lodbias “-2”

personally i havent experienced this issue but it can be resolved by using the following instead seta r_lodbias “0”

Anisotropic Filter

I use NVIDIA Control Panel to Override ingame Anisotropic Filtering to x16
with ingame Bilinear Filter enabled & Anisotropic Filter turned off.

seta r_textureMode “GL_LINEAR_MIPMAP_NEAREST”
seta r_ext_texture_filter_anisotropic “0”

EAX Surround Sound

If you have a Creative Labs EAX surround sound setup.

seta s_UseOpenAL “1”

Custom Resolution (widescreen etc)

I use the following for a 120hz 2560×1440 16:9 display

seta com_maxfps “120”
seta r_customwidth “2560”
seta r_customheight “1440”
seta r_mode “-1”
vid_restart

I know i mentioned “no download required” but unfortunately Jedi Outcast doesnt support widescreen resolutions 100% as it creates a -VERT affect (chops off a portion of screen from the top & bottom) personally this doesnt bother me but for those of you that want the complete widescreen experience i have included this link [link] to czarman’s Widescreen Solution from the WSGF website, this will fix the -Vert problem associated with using a custom widescreen resolution

FOV (Field of View)

Field of View comes down to personal preference as it completely depends on your monitor size & the distance you sit from it, here is a useful website to help calculate your field of view for maximum immersion [link] (this works best with big screens)

& for those who want the “correct” calculations from the original 4:3 90 fov

21:9
seta cg_fov “121”

16:9
seta cg_fov “106”

16:10
seta cg_fov “100”
