Tricks

Overview

Tricks used by veterans that could look suspect for non-aware person.

1) Basics : Moving & Climbing

Avoiding “sticked” effect :

Do NOT try to run while getting up or you will suffer a slow-motion delay.
(can’t move to dodge, can’t aim, can’t shoot, can’t bash.
Only yelling or crying on public channel, when your opponent is busy trolling you.)

Diving :

Run then prone

You can use this technique in open fields to try to dodge bullets, take a quick cover…
But also to climb over object you can get onto with a standard jump.
Ex: sandbags, crates, sofas & chairs (Zhitomir1941), walls & iron girders (Stalingrad Kessel), ruins (Siegssaüle in Köningplatz), table then radio then roof (Arad)…

Getting up quicly :

Double tap “crouch”

From prone position, it is both quicker and safer to get up this way : we stand in less than 1 second and don’t suffer long delay to aim & shoot.

Prone position :

Effects
While proning, the other players walk on you.

  • Being in a proned player can disturb our aiming, our screen and he can move us by moving himself.
  • You are harder to bash/shoot while moving proned BELOW your opponents feet

Uses :

  • You can prone to help a mate as a step to climb something (ex : Kaukasus walls)
  • if a crate or a wall is a slightly too high to deploy a machine-gun, this trick make it possible.

2)Theory : standard limits & common bugs

Several kind of bugs are present in RO1.
Some are related to specific maps, other to playable characters.
Mods such as Darkest Hour & Mare Nostrum solved some of them.

In a previous guide, I evocated Infinite ammo bug which probably comes from a micro lag and give the impression we can shoot as much as we want but shot are less effective than a water pistol. It does sometimes happen with automatics (SMGs, MGs and even single shot PTRD).

Those which will interest us today are related to animation cancelling.
Some animation can be cancelled by an input but the value is changed/validated for the game.
I means can be (and IT IS) exploited for overcoming game limits such as having an handicap delay :

  • If we hesitate during a melee duel, we sometimes try to run to dodge, but it mainly stick us in place, unable to shoot and bayo/bash floating around instead of charging (ennemy can stab us 3 time meanwhile we are still trying to right-click)
  • Changing position : you see a grenade, you want to get up and… and.. and…. and…. Slow Motion Mode (except for this damn explosive). You eat ragingly your keayboard then buy a new and plug it to continue playing.
  • Putting bayonet at the wrong moment, or being sprayed while reloading a machine-gun.
  • Trying to pick up something. And.. Come in my hands, please ! PLEAAAASE ! With ammos if possible.. And you get shot after spending more than 5 seconds trying to loot stuff.
  • You use SMG and suddenly, on this new server, after the 3rd bullet your cannon is pointing sky. Too bad.. That’s not Duck Hunt. Meanwhile in other plays it sprayed around but was controllable.. Maybe VERY controllable.. I means almost playing Quake with the automatic gun.
  • And those guys around who climb on apparently unreachable places…

What is related to animation delay can be at least avoided changing our customs.
And in the best case (or more suspect), be canceled.

Common known cancels :
  • from prone to crouch / standing
  • quick deploy / undeploy bayonet
  • bolt action sniper (rearming & reloading)
  • aim quicker while getting up

Common know tweak :
  • Changing ironsight toggle-mode into maintained-mode (RO2-style)
  • Using a weak computer to have low number of Frames per Second to reduce recoil
  • (if failed, I means not enough FPS, we shoot at stars, clouds, birds, planes, Superman…)
Odessa

Odessa is known for bugs such as

  • teleporting over a door to reach corniches (face a door, open it then jump during door animation)
  • Invisible walls around Gresheskaya (some allow to fall below the map)

3)Advanced Techniques

Bayonet, please, hurry up

Drop your gun while deploying / undeploying bayonet.

Then pick up the weapon back.
Wait the animation start to drop it.

Stop reloading heavy weapon
Drop it.

It will switch to your grenade or pistol.
Very useful when while reloading your bipod-mounted weapon a wild tank appears front of you.
If you don’t do it, you will be stuck until complete reloading or death.
Note : the game consider the weapon is not reloaded.

Survive a deadly fall

“surf a comrade”
Be over another player who prone then wait.
He should move to fall from where you are.
If you stay on his back, you will survive.

This trick is used to troll on custom map Spartaaaaaa’s big hole,
but also to go below Odessa.

Pop-up

[prone position]
Move (AWSD) + “crouch”, then aim (then “crouch” if you want to stand)
Shoot, then “prone” to back to cover

Done quickly, it allow you to spot targets in few movements with a minimal risk.
Then, your own quick-targeting skill will make the difference.
Train until you get the good timing.

Bolt action sniper

Quick reloading
Same as bayonet trick : drop it while reloading animation stars.

Quick rearming for fast fire
[Prone position, unaiming]
Move with WASD while rearming animation has started to stop it.

If you do it too early with the wrong timing, the gun won’t rearm.
It only works from prone position. If you used scope, stop aiming before using this trick or you will get the normal full animation.
