Overview
Walk though of the use of the MAP EDITOR in AOE 3!!!
Opening the Editor
First, go to the main menu, then press Help and Tools. Then press Scenario Editor. The editor will now load to a grassy, plain map with an initially confusing interface up top. I will briefly go through all the sections now (make sure all the pictures are loading for you, because my explanation is edited on to them)!:
The File Menu
This is not used for actually creating the scenario, but rather loading and saving it.
The Edit Menu
This is useful for copying and pasting things, also you can undo if you make a mistake, but otherwise you won’t need this section very often.
The Scenario Menu
This is where the data about the scenario is entered.
World Menu
Useful for terrain editing.
Terrain Menu
Also useful for terain editing.
Objects Menu
Used for controlling all the units and buildings on the map.
Triggers Menu
You will become all too familiar with this menu in part three of my guide. I will not post a screenshot until then.
Cinematics Menu
The remainder of the icons in the UI relate to cinematics, which are outside the scope of this tutorial and only used for singleplayer anyway. The cinematics menu is therefore useless to you now at the beginner stage, and will not be covered here.
View Menu
Nothing under this menu will ever be of use to you. The default editor viewing settings are perfect. However, enabling the grid may become useful sometimes, but these times will be rare.
