Overview
How to successfully use portugal for a fast rushing technique. This guide will show you basic things to do to succeed. It describes how to use your villagers and how to get units fast. In the description, you will also find how to use your units in order to build a vast empire.
How Portugal Works
Portugal is great for going slow and building a big empire, but sometimes, you can’t achieve this based on how your opponent plays. Your opponent may rush you, leaving your villagers vunerable as you try to gain resources for building a vast empire. Once you get to the higher ages with Portugal, you can be practically unstoppable. The problem is: how am I going to get to those higher ages? These techniques will help get you there, and, if you want, help you just rush your opponent and end them.
What To Do With Villagers
Villagers obviously drive your civilization, no matter what nationality you are. Commonly, anywhere between 11 and 15 villagers is good to have by the end of the first age. If you plan on using calvary to annoy your opponent (will be decribed in next section) you want about 10 villagers on food as fast as you can. After you have 10 villagers on food, you should put a couple on gold. For this strategy to really work, you want to have the card for 300 wood in your deck. If you want to rush with musketeers (described how to do in another section), you need to distribute yuor villagers so you will have 7 or 8 on food, 3 or 4 on gold, and a couple on wood. As you carry on in the game, frequently make and distribute more villagers. By the end of the second age, you should be atleast pushing about 30 villagers.
How To Be Annoying With Calvary
For this strategy, You need to get atleast 10 villagers on food as fast as you can. After you do that, get 3 or 4 on gold. Make sure you have the card for 300 wood in your deck. After getting your villagers on food and gold, age up when you can. After aging up, make atleast 2 more villagers and send in the 300 wood card right away. Let these villagers that you make gather the wood, then build your building for calvary. Send the 2 villagers to wood when your done. Make about 3 Hussars. Make more villagers and distribute them evenly. Put villagers on a different resource every time. Say you put one on wood, put the next one on food, then next one on coin, then repeat. Every time you make about 3 Hussars, make another villager or two (Make sure to get wood for houses). Take your Hussars and distribute them so you have them surrounding your enemy’s base. This will restrict their villagers from getting resources. Every once and a while, send in 5 Hussars to kill off a couple villagers. This will make their income of resources slow down, making you build an empire faster than them. While your Hussars kill off villagers and do their job, make sure to keep expanding your empire and build far out from your town center to insure more areas of the map and to make sure enemy units don’t sneak up on you.
Musketeer Rush
For this kind of rush, you want you villagers more balanced out. This balance is descrbied in my “What To Do With Villagers” section. Get you 8 villagers on food, about 3 on gold, and a couple on wood, then age up when possible. Make a couple more villagers. Use these villagers to build your Barracks, then send one to food and one to gold (make sure you get wood for house which may require you to have the 300 wood card). Spawn musketeers like crazy. For every 5 musketeers you make, make a couple more villagers. You can use these musketeers for defense, or use them to attack. Make sure to keep expanding your empire as you make musketeers. These musketeers can help you attack and defend, but you don’t have to make a super large amount of them. Still, make sure you have atleast 25 musketeers if all you are using them for is defense. If you attack, consistently make more msuketeers. Take advantage of the card for 2 outpost and expand the area in which you can see, giving you better eyes to see where the enemy is coming at you from.
Summary
These strategies will help you build a larger empire and make sure your enemy doesn’t rush you. It can help prevent your enemy from building a vast empire too. These basic strategies work great with Portugal, and I’m sure you could modify and apply them to other civilizations as well. Hope you find these useful and if at first you don’t succeed, try try again. 🙂
