Introduction to Friendship and Gifting
In Stardew Valley you can make friends with the locals by talking to them and giving them gifts. Making friends with different villagers will unlock new and usefull benefits or rewards that will help you in your playthrough.
Each villager has a ‘friendship score’ represented by a ten-heart meter for normal villagers, or a fourteen-heart meter for your spouse. Fully completing these hearts for someone will lock in the friendship, this means it can no longer decay over time.
Every 
in the friendship meter is equivalent to 250XP, that XP can be gained or lost through various actions you can do. These actions are as follows;
Ways to gain friendship XP
- Talking to villagers (+10)
- Completing an Item Delivery Quest (+150)
- Giving different gifts (Will be explained further in this guide)
- Making good choices during the character’s Heart Event
Ways to lose friendship XP
- Not talking to a villager (Friendship will decay overtime depending on what status they are)
- Giving a gift they dislike or hate
- Hitting them with a slingshot (-30)
- Rummaging through a trashcan within a radius of 7 tiles, with the exception of Linus (-25)
But there is a little bit more to gifting than might seem at first glance. There are two more things that influence the amount of friendship XP you’ll gain when giving a gift. First, the taste and when you give the gift will increase or decrease the amount of XP you will gain from gifting. Below I have a handy table which details how this works.

About Abigail
Now you know how the friendship system works in Stardew Valley, let’s go over some of the information you’ll want to know about Abigail before you start giving her gifts.
Abigail lives at the general store with her parents. She sometimes fights with her mom, who worries about Abigail’s “alternative lifestyle”. Her mom has the following to say: “I wish Abby would dress more appropriately and stop dyeing her hair blue. She has such a wonderful natural hair color, just like her grandmother did. Oh, and I wish she’d find some wholesome interests instead of this occult nonsense she’s into.” You might find Abigail alone in the graveyard, or maybe out in a rainstorm looking for frogs.
Abigail is one of the 12 characters the player is able to marry. Her birthday is the 13th of Fall, you can use this day to give her a gift for increased friendship XP.
Abigail’s Schedule – Spring
During the different seasons Abigail has a schedule she’ll keep to. Knowing this schedule will make it easier to find her to talk to her and give her gifts. On Sunny days during Spring/Summer/Fall she’ll often be standing on the bridge at the river east of Pierre’s General Store.

Abigail’s Loved Gifts
Now that you know a little bit more about Abigail and what she is up to during the day it’s time to start looking at what she likes and what she does not like to receive in terms of gifts.
Since there are universal likes that apply to every villager, with some exceptions, I’ll only be mentioning the items Abigail loves, likes, dislikes and hates to keep the guide simple and to the point. Giving loved gifts to a villager will give +80 friendship XP towards your total. Abigail’s loved gifts are as follows;

Now onto the liked gifts. Giving liked gifts to a villager will give +45 friendship XP towards your total. Abigail only has one liked gift which is as follows;
