Overview
Learn how to change the Language Setting of the Game that affects the UI and should also effect the Subtitles. Keep in Mind that the Game only features English Voices since there simply dont exist any other recordings.
Why?
Well guys… if you clicked on this Guide you probably have your own reason as to why you want to change the Language Setting and mine is pretty obvious:
So i can experience the game like its intended to.
Im from Germany and in the German version (although it has been fixed already) there was a translation error at the Start of the Game.
In the Original English version it says something like: “its 5 years before the collapse of the citadel and the death of Eli Vance”
But in the German version before it got patched: “it has been 5 years SINCE the collapse of the citadel and the death of Eli Vance” and also the Text in the next screen after “SUBJECT:” where it should have said “Alyx Vance, Age 19, Female” was completely missing
Since i dont know what other Translation errors might have happened later on in the game and i dont want to be confused again (Yeah i thought this has something to do with some over the top Plot stuff with Starting in the White Void in the Present and then Playing the game as some kind of Flashback) i will show you how to change the Language 😛
How to do it?
It’s Simple: -language <language>
Put this into the launch options for the game with the language you want to change to and it should work.
I used this to change the Language in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive since i didnt want to change my whole Steam Language to English just for that and thought “Well… both are Source games.. kinda… it could work.” and it did.
So for example:
You want to change your Language to English so you do the following.
Go to Half-Life: Alyx in your Library, go into the Preferences of the game, click on “edit Launch Options” and put “-language english” in the textbox without the “” around it.
That should do the trick!
Btw: This is my first Guide so pls excuse my poor formatting and stuff. Im usually bad at explaining 😀
