How to make a sound mod

Overview

Making sound mods are easy, so let’s make one!

Part 1: The software

You will need Left 4 Dead 2

You will need Left 4 Dead 2 Authoring Tools

You will need Audacity or Adobe Audition

And any type Image editor aka Photoshop,

That’s it!

Part 2: how to use your tools

I will not be using Photoshop in this guide but it’s needed for those nice thumbnails. I will be using Adobe. I don’t use audacity for sound editing but it is free, so let’s start.

Part 3: shortcuts

The fastest way to make a sound mod is to make a shortcut of the “addons” folder in Left 4 Dead 2 and put it on your desktop or in folder somewhere like “L4D2 modding stuff”, And then go
back to “Left 4 Dead 2” and find “Bin” and your vpk.exe make a shortcut of that too.

Part 4: Finding the sound

You need a sound format that Adobeaudacity can open, like mp3 . Get the sound and open Adobeaudacity and find file and open, So you got the sound go to this guide”Left 4 Dead 2 Sound File List & Settings”and find sound file your trying to replace. Look at the settings make sure you have the same setting for whatever you’re replacing, if not your mod will go like this “bbbbbzzzzzxzxzbbxb” or you need to put it in your game manually and then press “`” then type “snd_rebuildaudiocache”, After getting the right settings make sure it’s wav not mp3 then save your sound.[/pre[previewimg]viewimg]

Part 5: making the folder for your mod

This is super easy, make a folder with “any_name_heresoundmusicname_of_a_folder_in_here_like_tank, You got your sound but you need a “addoninfo.txt’ for your mod. Make a txt and name it “addoninfo” go in it and copy this “AddonInfo”

And name it anything you want. Now put your sound files you made in whatever folder is at the end and rename them to whatever they’re called. If there’s more than one sound file like “tank” “taank” just make a second one and put addioninfo in root.

Part 6: VPK and workshop

Here we are put your sound mod in the VPK.exe to make your VPK, then test it. Put your mod in the addons folders and play L4D2. If something goes wrong, check the guide again and see if you messed something, If it works you’re good go to your Left 4 Dead 2 Authoring Tools and hit “Workshop Manager” , Now hit + and this is your mod page. Copy the text from your addoninfo, Get a image and hit browse to find a VPK that you made. Now choose the right category’s for your mod and that’s it you made a mod! :D(The mod I made [link]
