Overview
This problem can be solved by installing proprietary graphics drivers. But some graphics cards today no longer support proprietary drivers on the latest distros. For example, my 2011 HP laptop with legacy AMD graphics.
Solution
Add this launch flag to the game properties:
MESA_GL_VERSION_OVERRIDE=3.0 %command%
