Overview
Controllers not working/clicking? , Game lagging? Hopefully I can help you fix it with this guide!
A Quick Message From Me
TL;DR: Stop blaming the modders and especially the game devs!
I’ve seen so many people come around and complain about how the Developers are trying to kill mods or break the game for any reason.
If beatgames wanted to genuinely kill mods, then they probably could.
The developers are supposed to focus on their games, and updating their games, releasing new content and the such not to make sure that external modifications to the game work with every update.
It’s a cycle of users wanting more updates and content then promptly getting mad when the devs DO
release content or updates.
Sometimes people complain about the modders/mods themselves especially with the recent April fools pranks going last april 1st, please understand if they want to have a bit of fun, after all they make the mods for free putting their own time, effort, and technically money since electricity and internet ain’t free, stop going after them for being slow with updating “your” mods, if YOU want the mod faster then update it yourself the code for them ain’t kfc 13 herbs and spices, go to github 4 code
wanna support them? most likely they have donation pages set up or you can reach out to them if you wanna donate, but supporting them by being patient and reporting issues properly or even a thanks for your hard work goes a long way!
Controllers/Buttons Not Working
I’m going to assume that your controllers work on other games just fine and it’s only happening with
beat saber cause if it doesn’t work for other VR titles then the issue might not be your game but your headset itself.
Odds are that your controllers aren’t working due to you modding your game
specifically with the Custom Avatars Mod but this issue can VERY RARELY
Happen without mods.
Basically its Dynamic Open VR which was a mod that the new person working on
Custom Avatars basically uses as a requirement or dependency
Now how to fix this
You can basically install dynamicopenvr again and it should work, but you can also just clean the files
you can just uninstall the game and delete the game files manually and it should fix it
also if you decide to do so you would probably want to back up or move out your custom songs if you have any that you would preferably not want to lose.
but if you’d rather not just delete any Dynamic Open Vr files usually found here.
- Beat SaberPluginsDynamicOpenVR.BeatSaber.dll
- Beat SaberDynamicOpenVr
- Beat SaberLibsDynamicOpenVR.dll
- Beat Saberbeatsaber.vrmanifest
Deleting these should fix it, just restart your game and steamvr
if it doesn’t then try this
Head over to
“(Your main steam directory)Steamconfigappconfig.json”
Delete this line
“(Your main steam directory)\Steam\common\Beat Saber\beatsaber.vrmanifest”,
Including the Comma, Restart steamvr
If that doesn’t work then time for some desperate measures
Time to Clean Install Your Game
- Uninstall the game on steam
- Go to the directory of the game/steam library
- Delete “Beat Saber”
If this doesn’t fix it or if you Never modded your game
Appdata Clean
Find Beat sabers’ Folder in AppdataLocalLowHyperbolic Magnetism
Theres two ways to go about this.
- Type %appdata% in your search bar or directory in explorer and go 1 folder back up.
- Go to “UsersNAME” Appdata will be here just make sure hidden folders are visible,.
Optional to keep local scores and stats
Open the Beat Saber appdata folder and copy the Leaderboards.dat and PlayerData.dat
Delete the Beat Saber folder in the directory
Framerate Issues
Beat saber should be able to run on its own without lagging as long as your pc can actually handle vr!
Beat saber is a unity game which is quite CPU heavy and VR itself is actually quite CPU heavy too!
recording and streaming is also quite CPU Heavy (if you use x264 software encoding etc.)
General stuff
Make sure your games rendering scale isnt set too high usually 1.0 should be the norm! maybe up to 1.2 if your pc can handle it, no need to set it too high!
you can find this setting in your game.
Nvidia Geforce Experience
likes to set your rendering scale waaaay too high for some reason, usually x1.8 or x1.6 sometimes x1.4 nvidia experience sometimes tries to “optimize your game” when your game updates.
Optimizing your game
Obviously there’s the answer of lowering your settings
both in-game and outside, if you dont plan to stream or record your game, then you can make the window mirror resolution the lowest you can set it to, you can also find this setting inside the game, the other thing I would recommend is just closing stuff you dont use.
Framerate Issues even with lowered settings (and that your pc can actually handle vr)
I’d also suggest a Clean install of your game especially if you previously modded your game
Time to Clean Install Your Game
- Uninstall the game on steam
- Go to the directory of the game/steam library
- Delete “Beat Saber”
Clearing Beat Saber’s Unity Cache
Find Beat sabers’ Folder in AppdataLocalLowHyperbolic Magnetism
Theres two ways to go about this.
- Type %appdata% in your search bar or directory in explorer and go 1 folder back up.
- Go to “UsersNAME” Appdata will be here just make sure hidden folders are visible,.
And delete the Unity folder found inside there, you can also delete the entire Beat saber folder at that directory
also if you want to back up your scores copy the Leaderboards.dat and PlayerData.dat elsewhere.
Clean Installing Beat Saber
I Already covered it in the two sections but I recommend you read this.

Deleting The Game Files manually and a Beat Saber App Data Clean
should basically remove any trace of beat saber from your pc. a clean slate!
About Me!
Hi i’m known around the community as Saber-chanĀ® I used to be a support member for the modding group discord!
I’ve spent countless hours inside the help and support channels for the modding group,I worked a lot on the beat saber modding group’s support wiki and even made a few videos on updating and installing mods, and I wrote some stuff in beat sabers reddit once or twice regarding issues/updating etc
I was also featured in VRFitnessInsider’s post on updating and installing mods last April 2019 I guess thats a thing that happened too.
I have about ~100 hours of game time at the time of writing this, and that pales in comparison to the time I spent looking at the support channel for the community
I love drawing, especially anime! and I hope to become a artist
my hobbies include watching shows, reading novels and comics, playing a ton of games.
I won’t ask for donations or anything of the sorts unless you really want to! feel free to contact me
if you genuinely want to support me on discord “Loli Hunter#2882” if u maybe want to try and commission me for some terrible art that would probably take days-weeks b4 I ever finish it.
But all I’m asking is that if you guys can be more patient and understanding with other people when it comes to beat saber and modding (or in general cause cant go wrong with being Patient & Understanding in real life too!)
