How to see if a server has bots on it

Overview

Quick guide to see if a server has bots in it

Intro

One of the biggest problems with playing HL1DM online today is bots. Server owners have stuffed their servers with bots in a desperate attempt to make their servers look populated. Unfortunately, the bots are dumb as ♥♥♥♥ most of the time.

This guide will show you how to identify servers with bots in them.

Enable the bot icon on the server browser

On the server browser, look for the icons and text above the servers listed. Put your mouse on it and right click. A menu will appear. Look for an option that says “bots” and click on it. When you’ve done that, a gear icon will appear next to icons like the VAC shield. Any server with a gear to the left of its name has bots on it.

Check the “Amount of time on server” for each player before joining

Before you join, right click on a server, then click on “view server stats”. A menu will pop up with a list of players on the servers on the bottom and the amount of time they’ve been on the server to the right of their names. If most of the players have been on the server for an equal amount of time, then the players are bots.

Check their ping

When you get into a game, hit TAB and check the other player’s ping. If they’re 0, then you’re playing with bots.

See how they play

The last way to check if a server has bots is to see how they play. If players keep humping the walls, charging you with Crowbars and run in a straight line, then you’re playing with bots.
