Half-Life Guide

Basics of Cheats and Commands for Half-Life

Basics of Cheats and Commands

Overview

This guide will teach you most if not all cheats and/or commands for Half-Life. This guide applies to the following games: Half-Life non-steam, Half-Life, Half-Life: Source, Half-Life: Opposing Force, and Half-Life: Blue Shift.

Getting started:

First off, this will not work on any Half-Life server unless the cheats are enabled. So, if you are using this guide to try to hack or something, its most likely not going to work. This section will go over the things you need to do to enable cheats on your game.

Half-Life Non-Steam config:

DON’T read this part if you don’t own a copy of Half-Life on CD! This part only applies to people who have installed Half-Life through CD and not Steam.

First, go to your desktop and find your Half-Life exe icon. If you don’t see it on your desktop, look in the directory where your game is installed. It should be in this directory or some place similar. C:SIERRAHalf-Lifehl.exe
Once you have found the file, right click it and select properties and a window should pop up. Next, go down to where it says Target and after is says C:SIERRAHalf-Lifehl.exe, put -console -dev -sv_cheats 1. So it will look like this: C:SIERRAHalf-Lifehl.exe -console -dev -sv_cheats 1.

Start up your
game and you should see a new button that says “Console”.

Half-Life and Half-Life: Source:

Activating cheats through steam games is a lot easier than a separate install. All you have to do is go into your Steam library, click on Half-Life or Half-Life: Source, and type -console -dev -sv_cheats 1 in the set launch options tab.

List of cheats/commands:

Now that you have enabled cheats on your Half-Life game, its time to start using them! Please note that if some commands aren’t working, you might have to type “sv_cheats 1” into the console.

Map codes:

Map codes are the names of the maps for the campaign. When you want to load a specific map, open the console using the ~ button (the button under Esc) and type “map MAPNAMEHERE” All map names start with the letter “c”. Some chapters might not be in order.
